Quite the opposite, this was carefully planned. "Never let a good crisis go to waste."

sm4rk0··on I want an iPhone Mini-sized Android phone
Current phone: Samsung S10e (5.8" AMOLED, 142mm/5.6" long) and previous: Motorola Moto X 1st gen from 2013 (4.7" AMOLED, 129mm/5.09" long). Very happy with them. Both being flagship models (powerful CPU), the only drawback is shorter battery life than other phones.

sm4rk0··on Firefox now only available via snap on Ubuntu
Whoa! That's enough showstoppers for me. Where did you switch to?

When Ubuntu dropped 32-bit support, I relatively easily switched my old 32-bit netbook from Ubuntu to Debian (by changing the sources and some manual fiddling with packages). OTOH, I'm using Fedora on my work computer, just for the fun of it, and I'm really satisfied with it.

> Canonical and Mozilla are working together to make the firefox snap the only supported package in Ubuntu, thus deprecating the deb package in the archive.

sm4rk0··on Online archives where scientists post research spark information revolution
I've used a VPN to get the original PDF (reachable from Japan only) https://kowa.co.jp/news/2022/press220131.pdf and below's the Google Translated version. They are running a clinical study based on a fact that non-clinical study shown antiviral effect.

Kowa Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Kowa") is the investigational drug "Ivermectin" used in Phase III clinical trials (development code: K-237) for the treatment of new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infections. From a joint research (non-clinical trial) with Kitasato University, it was confirmed that the Omicron strain has the same antiviral effect as the existing mutant strain (alpha beta gamma delta strain). I did. As announced in July 2021, Kowa directly from Professor Satoshi Omura, a special honorary professor at Kitasato University, who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, about conducting clinical trials of ivermectin as a therapeutic drug for new coronavirus infections. I received a request. New Co. He believes that it is the mission of the pharmaceutical company to contribute to the treatment of coronavirus infections and protect the health of the people, and clinical trials to confirm the efficacy and safety of ivermectin against new coronavirus infections. We are conducting a test. Ivermectin has been distributed by WHO to infected areas for over 30 years as a treatment for parasitic infections. Especially in some African countries, it has been confirmed to be safe enough for volunteers to distribute directly to people. In addition, ivermectin has been reported to have the effects of suppressing the invasion of SARS-CoV-2 into cells and inhibiting replication, and is expected to be applied as a therapeutic drug (tablet) for new coronavirus infections as drug repositioning. I am. In this clinical trial, the dosage and administration are different from those already approved for the treatment of parasitic infections, but the efficacy and safety are being confirmed in the clinical trial. Kowa will contribute to the treatment of new coronavirus infections by confirming the clinical effect of ivermectin on SARS-CoV-2 and providing it to the public as soon as possible. * Overseas, it was reported that patients use high-content ivermectin for animals, which is dangerous to humans, and harmful events occur. Kowa is the standard for conducting clinical trials of pharmaceuticals in humans. Ivermectin clinical trials are conducted in accordance with the strict standards set by GCP (Good Clinical Practice).

sm4rk0··on Japan's Kowa says ivermectin has 'antiviral effect' on Covid-19
Scientists are not sure whether those side-effects come from the dying parasites or the ivermectin itself:

"Ivermectin is well tolerated compared to other microfilaricidal agents (i.e., thiabendazole, diethylcarbamazine). Adverse reactions (i.e., pruritus, fever, rash, myalgia, headache) occur commonly during the first 3 days after treatment and appear to be related to the extent of parasitic infection and systemic mobilization and killing of microfilariae. The majority of reactions can usually be treated with aspirin, acetaminophen and/or antihistamines. Adverse effects tend to occur with lesser frequency during periods of retreatment." Source: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/ivermectin-side-effects.html

If you read this list of side-effects, Aspirin also looks as scary as ivermectin: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/acetylsalicylic-acid-side-effects....

BTW: "BNF is only available in the UK

The NICE British National Formulary (BNF) site is only available to users in the UK, Crown Dependencies and British Overseas Territories."

A double-blind phase III clinical study is far from "in vitro".

sm4rk0··on Indiana life insurance CEO says deaths are up 40% among people ages 18-64
But reducing hospitalzitation alone isn't fair enough metric. What about people being disabled/dying from cardiovascular diseases as a consequence of mRNA therapy? They aren't taken into account by pharma and politicians. They are even going further against the common sense by blaming global warming!?
sm4rk0··on Indiana life insurance CEO says deaths are up 40% among people ages 18-64
The article quotes an MD: "The number of hospitalizations in the state is now higher than before the COVID-19 vaccine was introduced a year ago"

The person I'm replying to mentioned "hospital overcapacity".

sm4rk0··on Indiana life insurance CEO says deaths are up 40% among people ages 18-64
That "fact-checking" is misleading.

The original (official) data shows how likely is someone to die if vaccinated vs unvaccinated. "Rate" part of "Death rate" means the number of deaths is already divided by the population in one of the groups (vaccinated or not), so the size of a group doesn't affect the rate.

sm4rk0··on Indiana life insurance CEO says deaths are up 40% among people ages 18-64
What data are you citing?

There's official data showing the opposite (I personally checked each data point in that graph): https://alexberenson.substack.com/p/vaccinated-english-adult...

I assume your opinion is "more vaccinated people => less load on hospitals", but this article hints it could be the opposite.

If you're tired of waiting for next Ubuntu release and like living on the edge, you can switch to "Ubuntu+1", or always using the next release while it's being polished. Just replace "groovy" with the codename of your current Ubuntu release:

    sudo sed -i 's/groovy/devel/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
Then as usual:

sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

If you happen to have a PC with OEM-installed Windows, you can switch to Linux and use the Windows license (stored in firmware) to legally install Windows in a Virtual Machine (so the license is not wasted):
