Which post-ex-facto? You should still be able to add your blog to the original submission.
Would there be a benefit in social network features? E.g. I would love to see the currently most shared and annotated articles for any topic. It would also be interesting to see the Tweets and posts that reference an article.
They point at the picture of the birthday cake, and they receive an apple pie and cannot figure out why. You have to read the documentation to understand that standing on one foot while pointing makes a difference.
Declarative tools are easier when you understand the domain. Otherwise, problems arise because small changes in the requirements can result in huge changes in the outcome.
What's the endgame? Companies can only reduce ad expenses if they have monopolies or agreements among themselves.
In which way were his transgressions private when the transgressing article was published?
So everything already worked as intended. The tourists didn't bother to check the classification or if they did, were willing to dive anyways.
The 737 MAX shows that government involvement is not enough. Likewise doping shows that a legal framework is not enough to prevent advanced cheating.
>Personally, I think it ought to be illegal to misrepresent your service’s safety. I seriously doubt the passengers onboard were aware of OceanGate’s whistleblower lawsuit
Wouldn't it be better to establish a verification culture? There are always businesses that lie. The law only works retroactively while the tourists would be alive if they had checked.
The strike is not the last last-resort effort. Stack Exchange should not only open source all answers, but also open the platform with ActivityPub. Then, those moderators can create another frontend where they ban the AI users. Otherwise, the moderators will create their own platform without Stack Exchange being the main hub.
It's wild that moderator conflicts happen on Stack Exchange and Reddit at the same time.
The requirement is not wealth but being committed. That's even more difficult but easily ignored when lack of wealth seems to be the obstacle.
We have to build the infrastructure to handle it, soon. Otherwise, there will be a day where the AI will be so good that there are no moderators left who are good enough to make the right decisions.
I think that consciousness will reveal itself in a not so distant future. There are already implants for blind people. More and more parts of the brain will be replaced which will reveal where consciousness is situated. I like to think that fruit flies are also conscious so it could also be possible to enhance the brains of flies. However, I expect that its easier to enhance human minds and let humans communicate their experience than it is to find the consciousness patterns in flies.
>to do philosophy one needs to find an academic institution, wealthy patron, or circle of like-minded folks,
All you need is a blog. But I don't think that engaging in the current style of philosophy is time well spent because written language could be at its limit. Philosophy has the ideas of people who were thinking for several thousand years. They were very keen on being right. That could be a solid foundation to build on. The bones of birds are not very helpful to design planes but they still offer the idea of wings.
*edit: For me, backlog views are not enough to structure tickets in a meaningful way. Does Plane have a view to fluidly manage all open tickets?
The interesting thing about philosophy is that it perceives perception from inside.
I would use philosophical texts as design documents and turn them into code. There was a shift in mathematical algorithms from texts to formulas. It made reasoning much easier. Likewise, I think reasoning about philosophies will be easier when they are formalized.
Once philosophy becomes code, it can be combined with the signal processing code and code that models the brain. Having an idea of what to look for, it could be easier to discover self than to wait for selves that fend for themselves.
We have moved the goalpost for intelligence but not for self. There are also programs to model the units of the human brain but I am not aware of programs that model the self.
> “Romantic poetry was unruly, dynamic, alive and forever changing, they believed, and should not be corseted by metric patterns because it was a ‘living organism.’” According to Friedrich Schlegel, “it should forever be becoming, never perfected.”
The idea of having prototypes and no classes rhymes with forever becoming whereas classes are aligned with reasoning.
>The Enlightenment’s emphasis on reason rather than feeling, Schiller claimed, had led to the excesses of the French Revolution.
The french revolution being driven by class consciousness.
The following sentence is strange, though:
>“Utility is the great idol of our time, to which all powers pay homage.” Beauty, on the other hand, leads to ethical principles, and art, as its vessel, makes us better people as well as wiser ones.
When beauty is truth, how is it distinct from reasoning?
>He was a key figure in the Jena thinkers’ attempt to fuse the scientific and the emotional, art and nature; he preceded Keats in judging truth to be beauty, beauty truth.
I would love to see an approach to build AI programmatically. Instead of training NN, why not use the analytical foundations of the philosophers to create it? A language like Self, or its relative Javascript, could be the tool to create a self in a machine.
How can people be happy without self-actualization? Happy and (making things) happen are related words.
The val.town page is dedicated to developers and convinces with features. What I am missing is content. The explore page [1] has popular functions, which are the content of val.town, but they are not content in a social sense.
HN and reddit engage users before they make an account. It's very good that I can run code without making an account. But I have to interact and think before I am hooked. Could users be hooked on content? I could imagine a landing page on a second domain that would show the result of scripts that users vote to the top. (Of course the knowledge would lie in preventing dick pics.)
Adding votes should also be possible for the explore page itself. HN/newest is not as convincing as the ranked HN frontpage. A short Readme section and a result section would make the code more approachable.
The UX seems to be choosing precision over smoothness. Trying the HN Top Story in /explore, it's surprising that the result is just the title, without a link. To change that, I would prefer if a simple click on the function would directly allow me to edit the function. The ctrl-click with the new tab works, but it doesn't feel right.
