slimbods··on 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) Battery Replacement Program
I get a hit on serial number but no symptoms. So I think I should replace but:

"Your 13-inch MacBook Pro will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order. Service may take 3-5 days."

So I might go through that and still not get a new battery? Feh!

xkcd deserves a mention, I'll pick this as my favourite:

slimbods··on Ask HN: Why isn't there a modern MS Access clone?
Sharepoint fills the gap in many organisations. CRUD forms pretty quick to create off a sharepoint list/sql database.
slimbods··on The Science of Eggs
It might be that you don't have the problem with peeling very fresh eggs the author is addressing. We keep our own hens, and an egg just a few days old is bloomin hard to shift the shell off.
slimbods··on Superpowers – The extensible, collaborative HTML5 2D+3D game maker
Looks cool. My boy spends a lot of time building games in scratch and has tried a few different ways to do it collaboratively with his mates without much success. This could be a great next step if you're successful.
slimbods··on BBC gives children mini-computers in Make it Digital scheme
I love this idea. One of the hardest parts of teaching kids to lean coding is giving them a reason to do it. With the led's and bluetooth there will be plenty of fun projects to do. I've been helping out at our local code club and would love to get my hands on a box of these.

Noobs has included a 'boot to scratch' option for a few years now. My lad of 12 years was given a Pi, and assembled it and was up and running with scratch pretty quickly.
slimbods··on Rethinking office space
I never went to University, but took my daughter for her interview at a large UK institution this week. I watched the students wander from lectures to the gym and coffee shop then to halls of residence all within strolling distance. Made me think this was the way I'd love to live.
slimbods··on Show HN: PipeSQL – Building SQL queries bottom-up using pipes and filters
I don't think it is another layer, and I don't think it ties you to a vendor. This is a query builder tool that produces SQL code. You then take that SQL and run it against the DB. Once you've generated the SQL, you can modify it, you're not tied to the original pipesql.
slimbods··on Nations Mull the Ways to Regulate Bitcoin
Great until there's a fire or flood, you get burgled and the paper gets stolen or you simply lose them. I don't store cash under my matress for the same reason.
slimbods··on Packt Publishing ebooks free today with DOTDEBOOKFREE promo code
Not sure if they've just changed it, but the offer for the mailing list is now 50% off your next book. Or is that a different offer?
slimbods··on Hosting disrupted – 1 second installs, forking apps, container-based
Tried it, like it. Worried about how easy it is to create a site without any 'are you human' checks though. Isn't this going to create tonnes of bot sites?
slimbods··on Ask HN: Is anyone successful with the 7-minute workout so far?
British Journalist Andrew Marr suffered a stroke following a high intensity training session. He's doing the chat show circuit claiming rowing machines and HIIT are responsible for his stroke. The NHS website have quite a sensible take on it:

http://www.nhs.uk/news/2013/04April/Pages/Is-exercise-to-bla...

Basically if you're going to do high intensity efforts, best get checked out with your doctor first, particularly if you're a bit stressed.

slimbods··on Namecheap now offer .io domains
Might be true in the US but for the rest of the world, local tld's are fine. Amazon.co.uk, bbc.co.uk, etc.
slimbods··on A Tour of a Whole Country That Has 'Transformed Itself for Cycling'
Perhaps, but it's a tough sell to get someone to ride a £2k electric bike instead of buying a car.
slimbods··on A Tour of a Whole Country That Has 'Transformed Itself for Cycling'
The lycra thing is important. When you've only got keep fitters in lycra riding bikes, it seems to de-normalise it for everyone else.
slimbods··on A Tour of a Whole Country That Has 'Transformed Itself for Cycling'
Best by US standards. It's hardly mass adoption compared to the Netherlands is it?
slimbods··on A Tour of a Whole Country That Has 'Transformed Itself for Cycling'
I'm not looking for an excuse not to cycle, I'm a pretty fit cyclist and spend at least 10 hours a week on a bike. I'm saying that holding this up as an example that others can follow isn't ideal as they have a big natural advantage over practically anywhere else. Unless you can overcome the issues of terrain and climate, it's just not going to become mainstream like it has there. Look at the bikes they're riding, big heavy comfortable clunkers. Most people simply couldn't get those up the hills surrounding my town, they'd have to push.
slimbods··on A Tour of a Whole Country That Has 'Transformed Itself for Cycling'
It is ace, but I wonder if you'd get cycling as mainstream anywhere else. That country is almost uniquely and famously flat.
slimbods··on Coworking Spaces
Has anyone experienced a successful co working space in a more rural location? I'm wondering what kind of local population is required to support them.
