sleepyguy··on Chinese Cars Could Be Huge in U.S., and That's the Problem, Officials Say

sleepyguy··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
So someone presenting the facts can be biased. Prove his facts are wrong and then I can agree.
sleepyguy··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
I don't think it's biased. I think it makes all the sense in the world.
sleepyguy··on Europe's summer drought is so extreme that desertification is a growing threat
You don't have to take a train trip, all the grass along side the roadways looks like straw, at least around St Marx/Arena Wien/Gasometer.

No....because it would make no difference.

sleepyguy··on Trump's Working to Give Part of Yosemite to a Private Developer
He has about 2.5 years to completely destroy and fleece the US, I expect things to accelerate in every direction to meet those objectives. The only question is, will the US ever recover.
sleepyguy··on Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity
You should come to Texas and tell me how well you get along with just a fan. We have had like over 40 days of 40-45 C in a row. The wind feels like a blast furnace and at night it can still be 38 C outside. Even the birds have fled to cooler locals. It is so intense that you can not walk barefoot outside around your home. If your car broke down on the side of a road, you would be dead in less than an hour, even in the shade. I like to tell people that Texas is the next stop after Hell and too be honest it is like living in the Arctic compared to Arizona where the temps are even worse.

I was in Vienna this summer and the inside of the apartment was over 40 for the entire week. Thank god, we were able to buy a portable AC unit from Mediamrkt before they ran out.

sleepyguy··on Wiped out: US faces surging toilet paper prices amid trade war with Canada
I might need to make a run to Costco and stock up on some shit tickets.
sleepyguy··on US halts all immigrant visa applications amid tightening restrictions
A really bad way to enter a country with the intention of staying is to come as a visitor/guest and then claim asylum. They are lying their way in and in my opinion not a good start to trying to stay and become a citizen in some day.

Are we a land of laws or not?

sleepyguy··on Trump administration moves to impose more than $100k fee for H-1B visas
>The fee would not apply to visas granted to foreign citizens already in the United States on student visas, who make up a large share of new H-1B recipients, or to renewals of current visas.

Theater for the masses, complete nothing burger. Anyway, what's a 100k to the companies that hire 1000's of H1B's already over American workers or kids getting out of Uni.

There is nothing any Administration would do to protect American workers over cheap imported slave labor. Corporations run the show not Trump or any other President.

sleepyguy··on How Europe is killing makers and micro-entrepreneurs
That is the issue across the entire world. Large corporations can easily bear the cost of regulatory laws, environmental requirements, rules, and regulations. They can also go to great lengths to promote an environment that is almost nightmarish for a smaller company or entrepreneur trying to enter the game.

They create barrier after barrier through their lobbying efforts. A good example is having to pay $50,000 for an inspector to come and determine whether your automatic door opens and closes properly, or to verify that your facility does not have a chimney. A friend of mine who owns a business in Niagara Falls, Canada, had to pay around $10,000 for a wind assessment to determine where chimney exhaust would go once released. He didn’t even have a chimney. They ended up having to have another inspection to verify they didn't have a chimney.

Many of these environmental laws are intentionally created and applied to small businesses as well, even when the cost of meeting the requirements is greater than what the business could realistically generate in sales.

The result is that large corporations can absorb these costs, while small businesses and entrepreneurs are often priced out before they even have a chance to compete.

sleepyguy··on The Next China Shock Is Here
I watch a few different YouTube channels on China to get some balance. They paint a different picture. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

sleepyguy··on Micron announces $10B research hub in Boise
From what I understand Idaho is a very popular destination for Mormons, I feel like it has replaced Utah as the "Mormon State".
sleepyguy··on The Amazon tax
You live in Europe, where everything is harder, and when it comes to shopping, you have maybe one-fifth of the choices Americans have.

I spend a good four months every year in Poland and Austria, and there’s really nowhere in the world except China that offers consumers as much choice and availability as the U.S. does.

sleepyguy··on Google buys crashed airline Spirit's data at auction
Well at least you didn't land in the middle of nowhere. Nokia had the worlds largest cell phone factory there back in the day.
sleepyguy··on PM Carney announces largest clean energy investment in North American history
14 Gigawatts for 70 Billion? Is that a good dollar value?

An announcement means nothing unless it is followed through. It's results that matter. Carney likes to make a lot of announcements but there have been no results or even the start of any of these announcements.

I am of the opinion this is much to do about nothing, like every other announcement made by not just Carney but his predecessors. It's all just theater for the masses.

Why not just do it, like they did it decades ago, why does it have to be some kind of announcement or is this just a political ploy to garner more support while doing nothing?

I don't believe anything any of these guys say because talk is cheap and building anything in Canada is nearly impossible.

Junk away....

sleepyguy··on South Korea proposes talks to officially end war with North
South Koreans are extremely frightened of North Korea. North Korea is gaining valuable skills and know how from Russia and the war they are waging on Ukraine. In the next year or two South Korea won't stand a chance, perhaps now would be a good time for the USA to get the hell out of there, it's not like the South Koreans want them anyway...
sleepyguy··on Wind and solar overtake fossil fuels in Germany for the first time
Forests need to be managed, the problem is Canada has very little private property and vasts amounts of Crown land that is not managed. These forests just gather fuel and then burn down every summer. They need to be managed or this is only going to get worse.
sleepyguy··on Texas halts new data centers as governor calls for audits
Just theater, Abbot doesn't work for the people of Texas, he is Gov for the corporations. The only reason he even did this was because Hinojosa is saying no more free rides for Data Centers. They will have to build out their own power and water resources. She is right, who needs them and it's not like they hire more than 30 -40 people anyway. Texas needs to try something new, the Republicans have been in power to long, need to shake things up.

The next frontier should be preventing forest fires. This is just Canada, imagine if we could prevent them around the world.

>Stoked by Canada’s warmest and driest conditions in decades, extreme forest fires in 2023 released about 640 million metric tons of carbon

This, these news organizations have no f'n clue. China this, China that, it's all part of the 10 billion China spends on b.s to feed the Americans that they are behind or they are useless and that they don't stand a chance....

China is on the verge of collapse walking the razors edge.

sleepyguy··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
Is this a surprise, I think history has proven that the Chinese technology theft is part of their strategy. They let the American tax payer or "The West" shoulder the cost and then steal it.

Waiting for the whataboutism....junk away...

sleepyguy··on Airbus Full Scale Foldable Wing Extensions
>The Wing of Tomorrow programme is centred around creating longer, lighter, and more slender wings to maximise aerodynamic efficiency and reduce fuel burn. The wing extensions will be assembled at Airbus’ Wing Technology Development Centre in the UK and flight tested in Toulouse.

I can't say for certain, but I believe Boeing may have explored this concept at some point. The idea would be to equip aircraft with mechanically extendable wingtips that could expand outward by several meters during flight and retract while on the ground.

The primary challenge is that most airport gates cannot accommodate aircraft with a significantly larger wingspan. Retractable wingtips would allow the aircraft to benefit from the improved aerodynamic efficiency and fuel savings of a longer wing in flight, while still fitting within existing gate infrastructure during boarding, deplaning, and parking.

I used to drive by that gas station everyday, It was located at the bottom of Windermere and the Lakeshore area. They had saved it and moved it from what I remember but I could be wrong. Thre were a few more gas stations like that in Toronto. There was one on Bloor just before you got to High Park.
