I don't have answers; just the lingering question "why are we building this?"
Another observation: Because of the number of sparrows, I did pull the whole feeder down and kept it down for months. Then, when winter approached, I put the feeder and the halo back up, and no house sparrows made it through again. Did the adults who were defeating it before forget? Move on? Die? Who knows!

For example: Looking at a site and want to open your "hacker news" top site in a new tab?
1) Scroll up until you trigger the top bar reveal
2) Tap the boxed number button next to the address bar
3) Way at the bottom of the display, tap (+) to open a new tab
4) At this point the keyboard appears with the address bar focused. I don't want that, so tap in the tab home screen background where Top Sites can be seen
5) Tap on hacker news "top site"
That's 5 gestures, each in a new area of the screen, just to open a web site. Palm Pilot famously put nearly every common feature in the entire OS within 3 taps of the home screen.
I really hope Mozilla can do better than this!
* define a metric
* measure it automatically with every commit
* define a success threshold
* make changes to get yourself under the threshold
* prohibit further changes which bring you above the threshold
Just do it like that for pretty much every view in the system.

I drive a prius, and several times I have seen coal rollers cross several lanes of traffic to sit in front of me with their stacks spewing. They don't know anything about me other than the brand of car I choose, but it's enough to make them go out of their way. It's got to be a positive reinforcement mechanism.
I think the reason why you can't have a rational discussion is that it will play directly into this cycle! Give someone a choice between an uncomfortable analysis of their own behavior versus a pleasurable peel out with yet another frustrated do-gooder in their wake, and they'll choose the latter each time.
Honestly I think they'll just have to get bored before they stop.
> I had a lot of fun doing this experiment. Some people will probably get mad at me for tricking people, but whatever.
OP even recognizes the externalized cost of their actions, "but whatever", as they say. What they did by posting fake content to prove a point was wrong, betrayed everyone's trust, and was completely against the spirit here. And as a community we could say that we don't support this behavior. I think that's a good idea.
