sjs7007··on Oracle’s 6am layoff emails hit staff amid new wave of cuts
You could publicly brag about your company by naming it here :)
sjs7007··on Microsoft is employing dark patterns to goad users into paying for storage?
I got caught up in that too. Install OneDrive and saw you can't use it without signing up. I bailed right that.

Now admittedly my workaround ended up being uh... Google Drive.

sjs7007··on Silver plunges 30% in worst day since 1980, gold tumbles
50% since August 22 2025, not the year 2022. I'm assuming your SP500/Nvidia returns mentioned are from 2022.
sjs7007··on US airlines are pushing to remove protections for passengers and add more fees
Could you share more context on the water bottle thing? That makes no sense to me.
sjs7007··on I quit Google to work for myself (2018)
I don't have anything useful to add but just want to say, like many others have said, I really appreciate the way you have continued to document your journey from start to today and not shied away from sharing details. Thank you for that!
sjs7007··on CEOs’ pay climbed before layoffs at tech giants like Alphabet and Microsoft
> compensation is considered regular income for the year it is awarded based on the difference between the strike price and the market price

Isn't that exactly how it works? Your grant price just determines your number of your shares. When your shares vest they get taxed as regular income for the entirety of the vest amount.

sjs7007··on Almost 200k Job Cuts in Tech Pushes New Grads to Wall Street
That's a neat comic, thanks for the link!
sjs7007··on Amazon Is Being Flooded with Books Written Entirely by AI
It's being listened to by bots on loop instead of multiple user accounts. So effectively revenue/user is going down with this I'd guess.
sjs7007··on Accenture would cut 19,000 jobs
The average new grad in a consulting company like TCS/Wipro/Infosys has started at around 3.6-4.8k usd/year for like the past decade. I think Accenture would also be in similar range but not sure.
sjs7007··on More students are turning away from college and toward apprenticeships
Well, it's also typically the last place you get the opportunity to make a whole bunch of friendships before heading out into the adult world where it requires much more effort.
sjs7007··on How to hire engineering talent without the BS
In my experience you still have a 3-4 interview loop on too of your take home project.
sjs7007··on Deutschlandticket for regional bus and rail services to be offered for €49/month
I guess a better system would be to have different tiered pricing but not strict checks.
sjs7007··on California passes law banning Tesla from calling software FSD
Claim two sounded a bit suspicious so I checked the quote:

" He promised, despite unhappy faces from his engineers, that it would take fewer years than he had fingers on his right hand before they were available to everyone – although the price wasn't mentioned."

sjs7007··on Twitter suspends pg's account [fixed]
92 of 500 top sudreddits are moderated by same 5 people apparently: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23173018
sjs7007··on The code that ChatGPT can't write
Same as how you'd verify an internet answer? By trying it out. At least applies for the misc programming syntax things one might be googling.

This was never really enforced.

sjs7007··on Show HN: I built a site that finds the cheapest place to buy a book
Guess who owns abebooks now?
sjs7007··on Google Timer is back
Find my phone widget is also gone. Need to click through into the website now which for a person who constantly misplaces their phone is annoying.
sjs7007··on Notice of termination of Twitter merger agreement
Small correction, he'll be paying 50% over market value, not 150% more.
sjs7007··on Webcams aren't good enough
Welp, that feature is basically going to kill this company then.
sjs7007··on Airbnb’s design to live and work anywhere
What about the reduction in office space usage that will have to be repurposed into something else?
sjs7007··on Google no longer producing high quality search results in significant categories
I'm just amazed by how many people do this. I always do this too since it seems hard to find quality content just by searching on Google. I try to search HN too sometimes like this but the crowd and topics here a lot more narrow.
sjs7007··on Turning a MacBook into a touchscreen with $1 of hardware (2018)
Wow, this is pretty cool, thanks for sharing!
sjs7007··on Vacation isn’t the answer to employee burnout
That's just because it's more common the case that employees get screwed by the company than other way round. One easy way to make unlimited really unlimited is by having a reasonable number of mandatory days off like 4 weeks. Then I'll believe unlimited PTO.
sjs7007··on Vacation isn’t the answer to employee burnout
Then really it's a failure of management at your company, not the limited vacation system.
sjs7007··on Vacation isn’t the answer to employee burnout
> It's that usually I can just take off a Friday or a Monday here and there without any issue as long as I give a bit of notice.

I have fixed number of days but still can essentially do this.

> Functionally now though, I have to file paperwork with 3 different groups to have someone approve even a single day off so they can make sure I'm not going over the number of days off that I have in accordance with my level and seniority.

This sounds odd. Why can't you just have a system that tracks number of days and as long as you have the number of days 1-2 days shouldn't be an issue at all. I don't see how switching from unlimited to limited made this approval business necessary at all.

sjs7007··on Arm China Has Gone Rogue
Well you have security clearances already no?
sjs7007··on The rise of user-hostile software
I've like Muji but find the pricing to be inconsistent. Some items pretty reasonably priced whereas some seemed pretty expensive for no reason.
