sjeanpierre··on Cloud Functions: Go 1.11 is now a supported language
Is there a reason dependency management happens like this? We currently deploy Go Lambda functions in AWS with the help of the Serverless Framework and it just uploads the cross compiled Binary and not the whole project.

Why wouldn't the binary be the deployed unit in this case?

sjeanpierre··on House Oversight Committee Report on Equifax Breach [pdf]
Heuristics like data volume are a good starting point, but also known good traffic flow is important to know. In a "secure" environment you'd route all traffic through a know choke-point that is network controlled. In AWS this would be using the routing layer of the VPC to force traffic to something like a Squid proxy before allowing it out.

On that proxy outbound traffic destination host or IPs would be compared to a list of known destination, and rejected if not match is found.

These methods are not 100%, but they do help add another layer to the security process.

sjeanpierre··on Centrifuge: a reliable system for delivering billions of events per day
Hi, thanks for the great write up. Can you provide some more details about how you handle the RDS side of the rotation process and maintaining the spares?
sjeanpierre··on Etsy Announces Move to Google Cloud
I'd imagine that the move would require some re-engineering of their services to make the best use of GCP. I'd also imagine that their would be a non-trivial migration process to ensure uptime is maintained and customers are not impacted during the move.
sjeanpierre··on New law bans California employers from asking applicants their prior salary
definitely a step in the right direction, but employees can still get this info from Equifax and other data providers :-(
sjeanpierre··on Bootstrapping Kubernetes Google Cloud Platform without scripts
In AWS the combination of IAM roles + Param store gives us a pretty decent version of this. We have the app talk to param store to get secrets then just keeps them in memory.
sjeanpierre··on Low Latency Architecture – AWS
If your batch settings are low enough Kinesis should be fine. SQS with long polling would also be pretty fast if you have enough workers.
sjeanpierre··on Vanguard Is Growing Faster Than Everybody Else Combined
Charles Ponzi would be proud
sjeanpierre··on The Google Analytics Setup I Use on Every Site I Build
Yup, GTM is great until the folks in marketing add a script to the site without first testing in preprod that causes the UI for the app to not render.
sjeanpierre··on Ask HN: What are good software architecture interview questions?
This is a very good one, my default is usually Instagram
sjeanpierre··on Moving persistent data out of Redis
What method are you using to replicate from MySQL binlog to various other systems?

Wow this is really fucked up. Most people would automatically trust a link from Google.
