sjapkee··on 'VPNs are lawful technical tools,' says EU Court in landmark copyright ruling
As someone who browses Internet through a vpn 99.9% of the time - no, they can't. There wasn't a single time when vpn was the problem.
sjapkee··on Crunchyroll is destroying its subtitles
Hianime? They have both dubs and subs at the same time. For non-english subs/dubs there're probably pirate versions too. And yes, subs and dub will be slightly different anyway because dubbers change it sligthly for better flow or lip sync if needed.
sjapkee··on Two things LLM coding agents are still bad at
1. Any 2. Any
sjapkee··on Britain to introduce compulsory digital ID for workers
Internet peaked too early to build any countermeasures for this.
sjapkee··on Delete FROM users WHERE location = 'Iran';
Ask Balkans about their 90s. "Worked pretty well", yeah.
sjapkee··on Delete FROM users WHERE location = 'Iran';
>The point is to get people in those contries to overthrow their leadership.

Yeah, it will certainly make life better, works every time (no).

sjapkee··on Delete FROM users WHERE location = 'Iran';
Sweet summer child
sjapkee··on Delete FROM users WHERE location = 'Iran';
>'You' elect the government. Even if you didn't vote for ruling parties, majority did.

It's funny that people still believe governments let people elect anything. You can vote, you can ignore elections - result will be the same, your opinion doesn't matter

sjapkee··on Delete FROM users WHERE location = 'Iran';
No. Countries just will take money from their people. It diminishes people capacity to survive.
sjapkee··on Slack has raised our charges by $195k per year

sjapkee··on Nano Banana image examples
No, that's just result of TONS of resets until you get something decent. 99% of the time you'll get trash, but that 1% is cool
sjapkee··on Wikipedia survives while the rest of the internet breaks
>I wish educators would stop telling people that it’s not reliable

Why? It's really not reliable. It doesn't have any decent standards for sources. Any controversial topic is a constant edit war. Wikipedia is only good when you're okay if info turn out to be false.

sjapkee··on We already live in social credit, we just don't call it that
Passkeys shouldn't even exist
sjapkee··on Anthropic raises $13B Series F

Bro really thinks privacy settings work
sjapkee··on Claude Code is all you need
Wait, people still unironically use ORMs instead of writing queries directly? Not surprising then that everything works like shit
sjapkee··on GPT-5
Based on benchmarks it's a flop. Not unexpected tho after oss
sjapkee··on On the link between great thinking and obsessive walking
It's not a racism, it's a reasonable precaution.
sjapkee··on Ask HN: What Skills to Acquire in 2020?
[flagged]
sjapkee··on Not everyone has an internal monologue
I tried this right now and noticed that I count tap for the first time. But the most important thing is that all of them are different and form a repeatable pattern. So brain just remembers the sensation of the fourth tap and I can tap in fourths subconsciously for a while.

The other way to deal with this exercise is just tapping for the odd count in one place and for the even in another. So you know when the fourth tap is because you subconsciously know it was long enough time after the second one and it is in the right place on the table.

sjapkee··on Ask HN: What's the most valuable thing you can learn in an hour?
>A person can also learn a few guitar chords and possibly play a carefully-chosen song in that time.

He can't. He'll know how to play it, but it will require many hours of repetitions to reach enough speed.

sjapkee··on Ask HN: What is your passive income 2019?
>the company owns anything you create even outside of working hours.

It doesn't legal in most countries even if it written in contract. So this is not a problem at all.

sjapkee··on AirPods Pro
I will personally love to see someone justify spending $250 on AirPods if he just can buy normal full-size headphones, where music is music, not random noises.
sjapkee··on Ask HN: How do B2B startups sell to corporations?
>chatbot startup

Dead man walking.

sjapkee··on C++ Ecosystem: Compilers, IDEs, Tools, Testing
It works fine only if inspections are turned off.
sjapkee··on Why you should have a side project
Things that bring joy and that bring money are not always the same thing. That's all.
sjapkee··on Hong Kong leader to announce formal withdrawal of extradition bill
>A non-violent protestor

Just an ordinary citizen, whose opinion can be disregarded.

sjapkee··on Go 1.13 Release Notes
Rust has no backward compatibility, a very disputable feature with language revisions when compiling, and it is rare for you to have a large package from a stable branch without loading the package from the test branch. So in its present form it looks interesting, but it is absolutely not adapted to use outside of pet projects.
sjapkee··on Ask HN: What are you learning in 2019?
Rust is unstable, so there is no reason to learn it right now. Many revesions, version incompatibility, dependencies from unstable branch in main repository branch. It's absolutely useless for production right now if you don't want to write the whole thing from scratch.
