sirstan··on What I wish I knew when I got my ASN
There are a number of exceedingly niche one-man-show hosts on sites like lowendtalk that will peer and provide full tables for a couple dollars a month.

Blast from the past. I am one of the named users in this email.
sirstan··on How and why we acquired our .com domain
Is there a bit of story missing between:

> After a few hours, the broker sent me this from the seller.. > "Our price is final on this one"

and

> ... we got a great deal on his broker fees and paid $4,000 all said and done

It read as though the seller was firm on $8k, but then sold for $4k?

sirstan··on Coinbase Tells User Missing $96,000 After Security Breach Is His Problem
Unfortunate way to learn that SMS 2FA/MFA isn't adequate, especially when TOTP is available. Unfortunate way to learn, Not Your Keys, Not Your Coins. That being said, Valve has a higher level of security on my Stream account than Coinbase has. With Steam, a password reset triggers a 5 day marketplace/trading suspension.

I presume from the article an email account was hacked (password available?), which gave means for a Coinbase password reset, and then a SIM swap occurred on his account leading to a withdrawal.

One might argue Coinbase has a duty to do more here -- nothing on their site (at least the security/mfa section) suggests SMS isn't good enough. PcMagazine[1] suggests 95% of users rely on SMS 2FA/MFA, and Coinbase seems aware that these phishing campaigns are happening against SMS 2FA/MFA [2].

sirstan··on Ask HN: Are headlights getting brighter or am I getting old?
There are a few cross-over SUV's with LED headlights that seem exceedingly annoying. The newer Honda Pilots and Subaru Ascent always seem like they have sun-like headlights. When one of these vehicles is traveling up a hill, the basically blind anyone coming down the hill. I own a Pilot, and get high beam flashed constantly. I had Honda check the alignment and they say its 100% where it should be.

I can't ever make out the grill after being blinded, but it seems like GM trucks (perhaps the 2500 series?) also have exceedingly bright lights.

Other vehicles seem to have "are those low or high beams" bright headlights, but not enough to "old man yells at clouds" about them.

I’m glad to see another Rove owner mention the paint. I swear wiping sweat off the top tube scrapes through the paint.
