submissions comments Any plans on making this a native app without the overhead of having a server service running?
Looks awesome, love that it is a local native app
Congrats, but you should add support for Windows and macos apps.
https://microsoft.github.io/react-native-windows/ We need to get back to Native Software aka "Apps". As I have said before we have these powerful machines, with cheap storage. Why do I need to connect to a remote host through a bloated web interface just to read a document, it would be better, faster, and smaller locally.
I hate people always raging on Windows, but I love that they embraced .Net and C#. Windows outside of its cost has a more advanced kernel, note WSL1.
I wish we would see more developers embrace desktop native apps again. We have such powerful machines, only to use them as glorified dumb terminals
Since there are no strict OS dependency I can see, has anyone tried to compile this and run it on Windows?
Any plans to test and support this on Windows Server, since there is nothing directly tied to Linux from what I can tell.
That is because Windows isn't the hip thing. It's SaaS with that reoccurring subscription for little feature add.
Any plans for making the workflow builder into a desktop app?
Someone on HN giving kudos to Windows for once. Has hell frozen over.
It would be great if this was a desktop app. That way I wouldn't need to spin up another server
Well this is why there should be a custom local app that is not web accessible. Desktop apps and CLIs have there advantages, and this is one.
Unfortunately, a vast majority of WebApps are hot garbage and even the good ones can never be as functional or as performative as a native app. We have such powerful machines, but we relegate them to such a horrible method of using them.
This is great and all, but this would better be served as a desktop app with lower overhead.
They could have written a MacOS and Windows app to go along with their web app with React Native but didn't. Such a missed opportunity
I enduro using my phone explorer:
https://www.fjsoft.at/en/ It has the similar feel to iTunes for the iphone.
I'm wondering if they could get that to work with React Native for desktop apps
Great job, love seeing new desktop apps!!
Now someone needs to make it work the other way. Android apps on Windows!
This is the problem with SaaS. If it shuts down you loose access to your data and app. This is why we should have local native apps!
I wish there was a native app for Windows and MacOS for this.
Microsoft comes to their senses and starts selling Windows Server standard at a flat 500 bucks an instance a year without the need for cals.
Now they are saying that you can upgrade, but know that we did warn you
Any plans to use tauri? That way you can use the native os web view, plus cut the overhead of electron
It would make it impressive that they could make it local without depending on chrome. In addition that it would allow the collaborative aspects natively. Just like on Android or iOS.
This is awesome! I hope this doesn't get abandoned.
Docs and Sheets would only be impressive if they actually released a native desktop app for MacOS and Windows
This is the way IDEs should be. We should be able to run things locally without the overhead of a webbrowser
We have that in powershell also show-progress
