You don't even need to have a git repo initialized, or even have the source be on github. You literally just need to be signed on - they made a vim plugin - and copilot will suck up all the locally edited files as well.
The company's motto seems to be that every customer is unique, and has different needs - meanwhile, all the places I've seen had very similar core problems that were amplified by relying on all the different Microsoft solutions used across their teams, and across organizations they had to collaborate with.
Not only that, but colleagues were always unhappy because they were forced to use poorly designed inconsistent tools that are user unfriendly and encouraged mistakes and apathy.
With every update, users need to get more paranoid about Microsoft's software because they're unintentionally incompetent about ethical standards...
The other people here were discussing and complaining that in the last version vs code engineers accidentally forgot to be careful about privacy and telemetry by default...
But don't worry microsoft cares about your privacy there are lots of toggles and switches here: https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-US/
Like I said in the other thread about vscode:
If you assume whatever's been done here's been done wrong it saves the company time and money, we know it's fucked up that's why we called you.
"If I've been called here, I can safely assume whatever's been done's been done wrong, otherwise I would not've been called here, cause I'm definitely not the cheapest option"
Either their engineers are incompetent, and accidentally chose the evil thing, or they intentionally planned it to happen this way.
My threat model is Microsoft selling bogus "productivity enhancement" features to customers, pushing duplicated features, collecting data on costumers to acquire business sensitive information, and using marketshare as leverage to strangle better products.
* They implemented proprietary sync protocols
* They obfuscate how 'settings' are saved - no, the settings.json is not what the editor uses and they hide stuff in the internal sqlite db they use
* Capping open versions of the product
* And finally, inserting proprietary "licensed" stuff and code that purposefully breaks if you're not licensed
MS can't fucking keep updated office documentation, but suddenly they're hijacking URLs for quality assurance reasons!
BULLSHIT!
