singingwolfboy··on Tomorrow Theme
Nice... but how is this "better" than Solarized? I already have Solarized installed and set up the way I want. Why should I switch away?
singingwolfboy··on Gitit is a wiki backed by a git, darcs, or mercurial filestore.
I've started implemented a diff-based text storage engine for PostgreSQL. It accomplishes the same principle, but using Postgres as a backend, instead of Git. It's very rough, but I'd love to get some feedback!

singingwolfboy··on Sublime Text 2.0 Released
I'm an avid user of Sublime Text 2, and I was really hoping that they would clean up their API before they made a stable release: http://sublimetext.userecho.com/topic/112486-api-better-use-... http://sublimetext.userecho.com/topic/112485-api-better-use-...

With the need to maintain backwards compatibility with a stable version 2.0, that's not going to happen now. :(

singingwolfboy··on Salt, We Misjudged You
Everything in moderation.
singingwolfboy··on IE10 to send "Do Not Track" DNT header by default
This is a really bad idea. Most people don't change defaults -- the idea behind DNT is that the people who care about privacy can easily take steps to assure their own privacy. As long as businesses know that browsers sending the DNT header are sending it intentionally, there's a chance that websites will respect it.

With this change, DNT becomes meaningless. How can businesses determine which users are OK with being tracked, and which are not? Since it's technologically easier to simply track everyone, and it makes good business sense to gather as many metrics as possible, businesses will simply argue that they can't respect a header that most people don't know/care about (since it was on by default). That makes things worse for the people who do care about it.

singingwolfboy··on Google Drive
Looks like the file cap is actually 4MiB, based on my testing. Still way too small.
singingwolfboy··on Show HN: Roll20, a new virtual tabletop for playing RPGs online
I love tabletop RPGs, and I wish there were better options for playing with friends online. I chipped in -- hope you get funded!
singingwolfboy··on A vim plugin that lets you edit PNG and GIF icons
This kind of frightens me.
singingwolfboy··on Xcode, GCC, and Homebrew
When people listen to each other, wonderful things happen. Thank you for listening, Apple.
singingwolfboy··on Fixing the Python subprocess interface
Too much magic! Too much magic!!
singingwolfboy··on DuckDuckGo gets a new look
I agree. The red bar is a little too attention-grabbing. I want to look at the search results, not the top bar.
singingwolfboy··on A Programming Idiom You've Never Heard Of
Python has this idiom for a while now: it's known as a "context manager", also known as the "with" statement. Here's the PEP: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-0343/
singingwolfboy··on It’s Instant
So what? Why would I use Dwolla instead of a credit card?
singingwolfboy··on Ask HN: Please Review My Startup: What Do You Really Think About Me?
I wouldn't use it.

singingwolfboy··on Wishbox Released: An Amazing New Way to Get Feedback from Web Site Visitors
I'm curious to try this thing out, but as a developer, I want to see what's entailed before I commit to it. I don't see any documentation, and when I click on the big "Get Wishbox" button, you ask for my email without giving me any information. I'm not giving you my email without (1) knowing what you're going to do with it, and (2) some documentation so that I know if this is simple enough to be worth it.
singingwolfboy··on Overview of Text Editors for Programming on the Mac
I just tried Vico (free trial downloadable from the website), and damn is it nice. I'm a huge fan of ST2, and I've been playing around with Vintage mode, but so far it just isn't enough for me: my poor fingers get confused by Vim operations that aren't supported. Vico has much better Vim support (although still not complete), and it's just as shiny as ST2 to boot. Anyone else have experiences with Vico to share?
singingwolfboy··on Ligament.js, the smallest, lightest-weight JS MVC Framework
It may not provide MVC support out of the box, but I still think Vapor.js is the best light-weight JS library for general purpose use. vaporjs.com
singingwolfboy··on An idea (to fix public transport schedules).
Nextbus.com already does this with several public transportation systems, including Boston and San Francisco. I'm actually in the process of putting together a service to alert riders when the bus is about to arrive, based on that data. It's still in beta, it only supports Boston, it's ugly as all hell and probably broken in places, but if anyone wants to look around, it's live here:

PS: if anyone wants to beta-test, let me know!

singingwolfboy··on Earth may once have had two moons
They're not officially categorized as "moons", but the article lists several "quasi-satellites" that orbit the Earth. There is a distinction, but personally, I would consider them similar enough to count as other moons.
singingwolfboy··on Earth may once have had two moons
Earth currently has two moons, or even more, depending on how you define "moon": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Other_moons_of_Earth

singingwolfboy··on Things you should know when interviewing for a programming job

singingwolfboy··on ITerm2 1.0 Released
Thank you! It's now updated in Macports, as well. :)
singingwolfboy··on ITerm2 1.0 Released
The SVN repo doesn't have a tag for version 1.0. I know it's a quibble, but it's useful for people who maintain package managers like Macports. :(
singingwolfboy··on Quirksmode is seeking to raise € 2,500 in donations
The conversion rate on advertising is incredibly low: often less than 1%. The remaining 99% see the ads and either ignore them (best case) or get annoyed by them (worst case). Either way, it's content on the page that those 99% don't want to see, and it dilutes the value of the page as a whole.
singingwolfboy··on Duke Nukem Forever has gone gold
Still vaporware until I can actually buy it.
