Sorry, unrelated to the writing (which I enjoyed), but related to the horizontal scrollbar! If you change w-screen to w-full on both the navbar and footer, it goes away. 100vw -> 100%. Just a tiny enhancement to an otherwise good looking website.
Yep, this is one of those issues that get missed because a good chunk of SWEs have fast machines and test the application locally. I've started enabling throttling in dev tools so I can catch these kind of UX problems.
Reddit has one of the worst frontends I have ever seen. Not even from a "SPAs are evil"-standpoint. It's just awful. That has deconditioned me very effectively.
It's actually very impressive. I gave it the task of converting a query and an OpenAPI spec into an API call, and it worked! I've not been succesful in getting GPT-3.5 to do this without rambling on about the reasoning for its decision.
Sometimes the ChatGPT UI has gone down while the API has been unaffected (like yesterday). Also GPT-4 via the API is much faster. That's the point of using an alternative UI. As for self-hosting it, that's just to ensure it doesn't go away I suppose.
One half would be covered by the Danish State, the other half by a tuition loan. I would however lose the income from the internship, so it has to be very worth it for me to go ahead.
