I’ve Been fortunate enough since my first job to always find a place that wants me and sells themselves. Once in a while i ran into companies that tried the testing and other bs and i either just left or told them it would’nt happen and they accepted. Stuff like being allowed to use Linux in a Windows only organisation or not be locked in for x months was something i could talk through.
Thats What i told him and it quickly escalated to HR ;) and it was 30% for after hours i dident get extra for responding but was it was often at nite it would sleep in the next day.
I was on call for years for a global lottery software and services provider in a 4 man rotation 1 week each. Took people 3-5 years to be ready to take on this responsibility. The last few years i was alone as people left with stress and i was 24/7 365. The pay was good but the day my new boss told me he didet get paid so i could escalate at nite and nobody could find a solution for months i started to look for new oppertunities. They hadent tried to prepare new people for years but managed to get a guy who was not ready to take the call but it also resulted in major incident and data loss. By the time i got out i had constant tinitus so i could barely hear on one ear from the stress so Im pretty happy Im done with it now but Sometimes miss the action ;)
Sorry i dont believe that. Its the only place it can ever get solved if at all. Putting trust in people has so far proved to be flawed.
Again had you made eg waybackmachine immutable then we hadent seen recent discussions about who Said What. Again look at eg bittorrent... how succesfull have copyright holders Been at preventing filesharing...
In regard to bitcoin it works pretty well for a lot of things and not so much for others. Just as everything. Personally it served me well.
And Having background in lottery abd payment industries i Can tell you we are already using it.. current systems are a terrible mess Which Anyone who ever had to implement against visa mastercard banks etc can tell you All about. Private blockchain ledgers like in the mentioned corporations is already in use and even more in the future.
What you Seem to ignore is that my aspiration is to fix the flaws and come up with a Better system and you Seem to focus on the past and currency Which is just a small part of the picture. Control of nodes is just a reference to some current implementation details. DAO was also just bugs exploited. Being able to alter the current State of the Ledger doesnt make it invisible that you did it, or prevents others from not agreeing with you.
Im thinking about civilations destroyed or Winners of war rewriting history, or powerfull companies and poltiticians covering up information that was already out there... eg recently we found out its easy to delete from waybackmachine. If you cannot Imagine we Can build true decentralized tamperproof systems or could ever have a neeed for one i suggest you study human history.
Perhaps Im just a dreamer... but i believe in an open-source, decentralized, free information, patentless World... Where one day nobody can rewrite history, can force a monopoly down our throath, lock us in, be unaccoubtable for their actions, censor us or run us around like sheep. One day we stop shooting ourselves in the foot and pee our pants and stop being blind to the tech giants like they have our best interrest. A true decentralized system might be nesssary one day to avoid us being enslaved in democrazy
Sure goverments can affect etherum and bitcoin but they cant stop it globally and Im talking about the next generations build from the learnings of bitcoin and the likes. Its not just about money but information any kind that could benefit. Stripe is cool but just one area and its centralized and itself relies on payment networks like visa and mastercard, banks and other psp networks all the way to the POS.
>>Even if we were to grant that these claims are true, we still have to ask what classes of application benefit from slower, more expensive distributed systems
Nobody denies its slow, its a waste of resources, its buggy, its hyped. its a lot of things many early systems was. Its all challenges that people try to solve. What is interresting is if those things can be solved. And i dont understand Why so many dont see a benefit if we could one day build true decentralized systems... its not the distributed or avalibility thats important. Its not like goverments or companies always have the peoples best interrest when they make decissions.
I was on call 10 years for lottery systems and usally got a call a week sometime during the nite that involved doing a c hotfix or restore some state and rerun a process as systems had to be ready next morning. We got 20% of salary after working hours and 30% weekends and vacation. The last few years I was alone 24/7/365 as people left with stress and as it took 3-5 years to be trusted with this and we hadent prepared anyone. and in the end my new boss told me he wasent paid to being escalated to and after I raised the issue for 3 months I had enough and quit.
Ideal process for me is being placed in front of other engineers and discussing what I did in the past and how I understand their challenges. Meeting the team I’m working with is a plus to see if we are a match. I don’t do tests and stop the process before it gets to that. I also consider talking to HR a waste of time. The company should sell itself to me.
Think it’s quite normal to have issues as a phase of life. Regular Suicidal thoughts is however something to take seriously. But dealing with issues for me took breaking a bad pattern and progressively working towards a better goal. Earl nightingale “the strangest secret” is worth watching... for me what he speaks has become true. Things I know for a fact takes bad thinking away is Changa but it’s something you either neeed to educate yourself in very thoroughly or have guidance. Most other drugs are too dangerous for most especially if you are in a fragile state. Breaking bad patterns can be things like getting away from a girlfriend, having a new job, getting a new interest, o finding the place where people will listen to you ... for me slacklining did wonders as it’s almost like meditating.
Psychedelics for this benefit should be done in environment without disturbances. That’s the reason I did them all alone and make sure the setting is perfect when I take others through a Changa trip. People who k-hole and do it them self build up or just take a big enough dose and often alone. For Changa even a mosquito can be a disturbance taking you out of the most perfect trip from a place you can never return.
Yes it can really work wonders but it’s also easy to use recreational. Had a friend who only does cocaine as he loves being in control and hated on mdma... he is also the most negative person I ever knew and would usally end up in a fight anytime he walked out the door... he blames his ptsd. One time we got him to do mdma anyway and he changed to the most positive guy over nite... sometimes accused us of being negative suddenly even though that used to be his middle name. It had that effect for 1-2 months untill he was back to his old self.
I’ve seen both mdma and many other psychedelics have short term positive effects but they also had a downside as they are easy used recreational. Only thing I can swear by works wonders are Changa and is in a category where regular abuse is very unlikely. I’ve been around 100s of people the last 20 years where we all smoked daily.personally 100g+ month of bubble hash grade or o.g kush types heavy weed, had year long periods of doing extasy, cocaine, mdma, amfetamine every weekend. Occasionally did stuff like 2cb, mandrake root, phenibut, Kanna, kath, ghb, lsd, dmt, ketamine, some RCs and perhaps 50 shroom trips in my youth and a bit of opimum to end a nite on a festival after having mixed a bit of all of the above. Having a highly stressful job I got tinnitus and was waking around myself in circles I decided to make my own Changa (dmt from mimosa hostilis keeping nmt +hamalas(rima) from b.caapi+alkaloids of Passion flower + blue Lotus, African dream herb) and it instantly took my stress and tinitus away and forced me to sleep properly Which had Been years since.. and imo is one of the most dangerous things and I have often seen as a trigger for insanity . Also lost any cravings for weed + sugar and such and now have not touched anything for a few years don’t even care for a beer. I gave my product to about 80 people under my strict supervision and guidelines and they go through so many emotions laughing, crying, having internal conversations, being afraid, wanting to die, feeling love, not wanting to die all in a short time they come back and tell me it’s the most incredible experience ever, that it saved marriges, ended abuse, stopped suiacidal thoughts and gave a new perspective on life some who had given up on shrinks and medicine.. mostly a common effect of living more in the moment and forgetting the bad thought loops they had. Friend working at google Quit his job right after, gave away his things and went to live with aboriginals. Another came back from South America after doing ayhuasca, rape, sanga, Kampo and told me what I had made was what he had been looking for there ... it got so “known” that someone from Sting heard about it and came by to do it when touring my country ;) most have only tried dmt enhanced leaf so they can’t relate.. those who have tried the real deal have respect for it and for most it will be once in a life trip .. even the hardcore are not just doing it for good reasons even if it’s just 1 hour it’s also the most crazy psychedelic... I’d done well you will leave your body not even be aware of yourself anymore and go a other worlds or memories and “movies” so far out no words exists for what you experience :D even if it’s the most amazing experience in a life like sex with the universe I can stil live on the memories of it for years. It’s a drug I expect to hear more about in coming years when it becomes more known as it’s my experience it’s much more effective than mdma ketamine shrooms which I have seen way too many downsides with like excessive abuse and suicides
I did and it wasn’t a problem after all. I also asked for better salary, free phone and be allowed to use Linux in their windows only environment and they accepted.
I made my own Changa to handle my own severe stress causing tinnitus so I could barely hear which it took away with one trip and also made me quit a 20 years heavy weed smoking. Gave it to others with the same benefit.. some even told me it stopped them from being suicidal or saved their marriage.my variant will often be memories and real life visions. Friend revealed a sexual abuse he had experienced as a kid that came back to him and explains why he has issues with relationships and religion and only able to deal with it now after his trip.
I’m a consultant and somewhat happy about my job. The boss where I’m currently at wants to hire me permanently and I told him that perhaps if the offer is good enough and without going into details he says his sure we will work that out... he has a big budget and only answers to the ceo and are there to build up everything from scratch and I’m his technical advisor/architect/developer while we establish platforms and team... so it feels pretty attractive and usally I ignore recruiting but then HR starts their process as if it’s me trying to get them and not the other way around... giving references, wants me to do logic and personality tests and now I kinda regret and already said I’m opposed that kind of thing and won’t really do testing for a lot of reasons. They settled with personality test and I said ok I guess I can do that but as I opened it today it really fustrated me and closed it again and now I’m pretty much feeling like saying No thanks as this really drains me. Am I being too difficult?
That’s Not my point. You would be able to store history and news and later being unable to rewrite it. A creditable source eg if you trust waybackmachine or some journalist or organization then you have a record that it happend... that is a step up from a screenshot. I believe there is a saying that the winner of a war writes the history and I believe we have seen many wars which tried to destroy information and history of a people. Or recently people/ companies trying to erase their internet history. A example would be simple system would be to log eg url to New York Times article you request and blockchain does the logging so perhaps it’s wrong what the journalist wrote but it’s true that they did write it.. and eg trump getting control of all all media in us would still leave a trail for historians even if us were fucked today ;)
Besides that there is nothing that prevents us from in the future to store voice/video and digital/biometric signatures and whatever to document interviews or events. For some part it will still be based on trust of a source in others it will be based on evidence. In science based on ability to reproduce methods and data.
