simonsaidit··on ProtonMail deletes 'we don't log your IP' from website after activist arrested
Their Tor have issues as i understand it.. eg redirecting to clearnet anf Old version and requiring phone number. But they say vpn would have solved it…

To quote

“ There's an important distinction here. Under Swiss law, email providers fall into a category which requires us to comply with certain legal requests. Swiss law does not have a provision which could force a VPN provider to log.”

“ With VPN the legal principle is different. Thousands of users might be using the same server, logging them all would be assuming everybody is guilty until proven innocent. This is considered to be disproportionate. In the email case, it is possible to request information on a specific user, and that is considered to be proportionate.”

simonsaidit··on Poly Network hacker returns $258M after stealing $600M
Don’t think it’s possible in this case as this is a bridge between multiple blockchains that they have no control over.

Nothing at all like that. Take a look at his “confession”

They blocked very little and can only do very little. He seems to know enough that I don’t believe he’s scared of them finding his identity

His own explanation is the one I find the most truth in. https://sites.google.com/view/hackersconfession/home/hacker-...

simonsaidit··on A walk in nature is better than microdosing
I found a walk in Nature on the day after a changa(DMT+Harmala) was greatly enhanced. Somehow i would notise the leaves more like having better vision. Perhaps being more in the moment have to do with it.
simonsaidit··on What defines a great company culture?
Spend my evening going down the rabbit hole and trying to see what you have been up to for a few decades and seems your are pretty spot on and pretty informed on many things. But some of the things I stumble on also seems incoherent and perhaps that’s because you can fill in the blanks in your head but don’t write it or because you deliberately make it hard to decipher. If all you have said is true it’s quite impressive what you have seen over the years but I can also see that it can be hard to believe the way it’s communicated. I was wondering what happened between 2011 and now where your described this guy I think you are referring to as a great guy and I hope that if there is anything to your latest post that you would actually follow through with it and elaborate more on it.

simonsaidit··on Robinhood is automatically initiating GME sell orders on users' behalf
I would think thats the obvious thing to happen when supply outweigh demand
simonsaidit··on Robinhood is automatically initiating GME sell orders on users' behalf
The difference here is they prevented people from starting new positions while still allowing closing them .. effectivly being the cause of the drop.
simonsaidit··on Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Robinhood
The positions getting closed was a consequence of preventing people to buy id argue. They could have closed them anyway but probably at a higher price
simonsaidit··on Reddit's website uses DRM for fingerprinting

simonsaidit··on Reddit's website uses DRM for fingerprinting
I joined reddit more than 14 years ago, before subreddits, when it was written in lisp and top posts were Paul graham essays and Joel on software. Today HN is the place for this kind of content. When digg died there was a fear what their user base would turn the site into. I have no issues with the design but probably because I’m mainly on my mobile. What did change for me though was the amount of toxic people in almost every subreddit I frequent.
simonsaidit··on SARS-CoV-2 was already spreading in France in late December 2019
Antibody tests have cross reaction to other common cold corona viruses and no studies have yet to prove them reliable.
simonsaidit··on The epidemiologist behind Sweden’s controversial coronavirus strategy
My bet is that both Denmark and Sweden and other places that got these high numbers used tests that were both giving false positives eg by cross reaction to common cold corona viruses. We have seen this with early tests and as much as 20% of the population might have had just one of these 4 common ones. A Swedish study noticed this but didn’t get into the details and was essentially a bad study as it still concluded tests were 99%+ accurate. WHO was asked the other day if they had comments on these studies but all they had to say was diplomatic that they could help with input to make sure studies were performed correctly.
simonsaidit··on The epidemiologist behind Sweden’s controversial coronavirus strategy
Let’s see the research and judge by then. I’ve seen published study from Uppsala that tested and confirmed antibody tests with high degree of accuracy 99%+, but had 1 false positive related to cross reaction to another corona virus but they had no details on the sample input or the kind of corona virus is cross reacted with, and hence no way of knowing the accuracy. Lots of bad science being performed these days so I’ll be skeptical until I read the results myself.
simonsaidit··on Swedish expert: why lockdowns are the wrong policy
Depends on who you ask. I’ve yet to see a study on this. I work as a consultant in a Swedish company and several of my colleagues stopped traveling to clients and insisted on working from home even before most countries shut down. This is now the policy for the entire company. Even if you don’t have an official lockdown many take their own precautions. Personally I’m not worried myself right now because of the precautions people take, but with more people relaxing and risk of more spread i do worry about the future and will probably have to do less of what I do now to reduce risk to people around me.
simonsaidit··on Swedish expert: why lockdowns are the wrong policy
You think it pushes the world towards a global recession. I think a hard lockdown and a co trolled opening is what gets it out of one faster. At least that is what we can see studying history in 1918. Eg Denver vs Philadelphia. Scared people are bad consumers. In reality we don’t really know which strategy is the best.
simonsaidit··on Swedish expert: why lockdowns are the wrong policy
“not experiencing the massive hospital overloads that they 'should' be according to the projections that drove the lockdowns.”

And yet very sick patients are already being placed in field hospitals with no running water, laying too close, poor air circulation and on old ventilators which have received criticism from the doctors there.

simonsaidit··on Swedish expert: why lockdowns are the wrong policy
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/03/upshot/corona...

I think everyone would like better data but one point I can follow is that scared people are bad consumers. I can’t find the exact story but I recall some research on Denver vs Philadelphia where the hard lockdown came out ahead later and the psychology of dealing with the disease contributed to this.

simonsaidit··on Swedish expert: why lockdowns are the wrong policy
“The correct policy is to protect the old and the frail only.”

How is it working out with that. Last I heard old people in Sweden don’t go to the ICU but is left to die and they have a large spread in care homes for elderly. And as if their economy is in a vacuum they think they won’t be struggling with the same recession as the rest of us

simonsaidit··on Apple and Google partner on Covid-19 contact tracing technology
What skuhn said. That is what the solution the Norwegian and Danish government is implementing is supposedly doing. Reporting the GPS data back to a central server. If you’re using iPhone.

https://www.simula.no/news/digital-contact-tracing-qa#How%20...?

simonsaidit··on Apple and Google partner on Covid-19 contact tracing technology
The alternative would be GPS which some governments are looking at now. It might give higher precision with a grid of location data to enhance it, but I would assume the protocol prevents this eg by some randomization of ids?
simonsaidit··on Apple and Google partner on Covid-19 contact tracing technology
Does this then allow us to run this in the background on iphone. The Danish and Norwegian governments are looking at using a GPS+Bluetooth based version because iPhone is so common and not able to work with Bluetooth when the app is not active is their argument. Also based on a centralized server. My hope was apple would in this circumstance allow Bluetooth to work differently so avoid unnecessary location data.

Yes the tumors part was always what scared me about it and why i would not do it again. Its the first time i hear about hgh being able to stop your own production its not something ive found researching the downsides. Its Well know for steroids though.
simonsaidit··on Progress of anti-aging therapies by clinical trial stage
Hgh works wonders used it for about 3 months and got sixpack doing hardly any workout. Lost all excess fat. Got a better sleeping pattern. Its easy to get your hands on online. Problem is that its mad expensive even more so with a prescription as the stuff without you might get was stolen or a cheaper brand.

simonsaidit··on Show HN: IAvisa – Explore visa requirements worldwide
It’s going to be hard work to build something reliable about the need for visa or not. For me just linking to the relevant government website and other contact information would be useful. And possible a way to comment.

Info about avoiding those unofficial visa sites would also help a lot of people.
