simianpirate··on I’ve built a virtual museum with nearly every operating system you can think of
I believe you are speaking of Tabworks?
simianpirate··on Seeing like a software company
I spent a lot of time in the medical imaging space... most of the owners of the businesses never understood that they were in the IT services / solutions space, and not just in the medical imaging space. The reason we did so well, was not just the diagnosis part, was but the IT services space and the platforms that were created by non-radiologists that also tried to learn what radiologists wanted to be more effective.
simianpirate··on New IBM LinuxONE 4 Express – Rack-mounted pre-configured Linux mainframe
Yeah, I am that super knowledgeable K8s guy, but I’d still say true mainframe admins are still a higher metric.

But in regards to K8s talent, lots of the people who think they know Kubernetes in production but have never had to actually upgrade the cluster, or go through the process of having to update manifests, deployments, and CSIs, and having to actually deal with api removals.

simianpirate··on Alphabet selling Google Domains assets to Squarespace
I still mourn the loss of Google Reader.
simianpirate··on Show HN: Multi-display screen sharing with CoScreen
Another vote for Linux support. I’m on Linux about 85% of the time.
simianpirate··on A taste of Brazil: How guaraná soda became a national icon
How about Josta? It was my absolute favorite as a teenager.
simianpirate··on KWOK: Kubernetes WithOut Kubelet
Kubernetes has a default (and considered best practice) limit of 110 pods per node. Are you seeing them cap it lower than that? I've never checked this personally on EKS, TBH.

Also, what do you mean by capping resources? In my experience with EKS, I haven't had any issues fully utilizing a nodes resources, even in EKS.

simianpirate··on Why doesn't Stripe use Stripe Billing?
A salesperson that I worked closely with like to use: “Drinking our own champagne.” I liked it enough I started using it though the engineer in me tends to be fine with “dogfooding”.
simianpirate··on MinIO passes 1B cumulative Docker Pulls
Indeed it does. As for stability, I had a few decently sized customers running minio clusters in production and they never had any issues with it.

simianpirate··on Switching to an N95 mask gives a 75x boost in Covid protection
Protection was and still is marked at a percentage less than 100% but still useful. The people being ridiculed were saying there was no point because it’s not 100% without realizing that the lowered percentage or ratio of spread when BOTH parties are wearing even an ill fitting mask. The difference is not negligible. It’s really a math equation between two social parties in the end. People wearing masks often lower their protection even lower because they wear the same mask every day or after every exposure without washing or by constantly touching it.

In general, I disagree with the “ridicule” but instead, trying a new or different way of explaining it.

simianpirate··on Blender 3.0
Then use that software if you prefer the UX.

As an anecdote, I installed GIMP for my son 6 years ago, who is now going to college to be a graphics designer. He did all of his digital artwork in GIMP and Krita, now Blender as well, for the whole length of that time.

He now has to use Photoshop for his classes. There are some tools in it he is impressed with but overall doesn’t care for Photoshop at all.

simianpirate··on 14-inch MacBook Pro review: A Mac Pro in your backpack
1. You can still use ANY USB-C port to charge the laptop. 2. The power adapter is USB-C to MagSafe 3.
simianpirate··on Mitchell Hashimoto takes on a new individual contributor role at HashiCorp
I am fully in bed with Kubernetes professionally and do love it, complexities and all.

However, I will say I feel the Nomad stack is quite good and fills a nice space where full-blown K8s is way overkill or just not the right tool.
