siloraptor··on Ask HN: Someone is taking my work on GitHub. What should I do?
I had a similar experience a while back with my software, Mayan EDMS an open source paperless solution. Things I learned: You are better off going first after a copyright violation, then after a license violation. Pick a previously tested license, resist the urge to craft you own, we are not lawyers. As the code owner you also have the community behind you, use that.

Thanks for checking. I'm getting a Error code: ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED from Puerto Rico, must a regional server or CDN issue then.

siloraptor··on Awesome Django – A curated list of awesome Django apps and projects
Those do make Django awesome! :) I myself use Fabric, Spinx and Pillow for almost every project. Django Nose is now in the list, the rest you mentioned are in the Awesome Python list at https://github.com/vinta/awesome-python, cheers!

Thanks! These are most of the apps that have saved my neck over the years :) Agreed on South, will remove it once Django 1.7 comes out.
siloraptor··on Ask HN: Do you listen to music while coding? What genre makes you more creative?
I love heavy metal, but when coding I've found trance and upbeat techno helps me better. The tempo keeps me pumped up and the repetitive lyrics (or none at all) aren't as distracting as regular lyrics.

Astral projection and Tiesto are my faves.

Four known forks so far (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySQL#Forks)
siloraptor··on Oracle makes move to kill open source MySQL
Yes, Drizzle and MariaDB are two MySQL forks that are gaining good momentum. Let hope another OpenOffice -> LibreOffice move can be done again.
siloraptor··on 12 (Really) Controversial Programming Opinions
I disagree with most of them and seemed to be biased towards a specific language the poster of the opinion liked/understood best or against one they disliked.

And I give the people the freedom to do with the code as they please, as long as they follow the terms of the license. And I don't mind commercial competition, in fact I promote it right in the website: http://rosarior.github.com/mayan/support.html
siloraptor··on Open Source Madness or People are stealing Mayan EDMS.
There are several ways to compile Python. But point taken, will think about drafting a specific license to avoid situations like this in the future.

I'm not opposed to the forks, there are 31 forks in github alone. My gripe is with at least three fork, two being distributed under different names and whose only patches are a name changed. Those may not be illegal, but are unnecessary and unethical. The last fork is being distributed with just a simple change of name also but being sold and no instruction or apparent source code is being distributed.

"If you are distributing the software, your responsibilities kick in."

siloraptor··on Open Source Madness or People are stealing Mayan EDMS.
Thanks for posting, I'm the creator of Mayan EDMS and while stealing Open Source software sounds like and oxymoron, it can and it does happen. In some cases is just avoidance of the terms set in the license in other cases, such in the case of Mayan EDMS they are just plain and blatantly selling the code under another name!
siloraptor··on Ask HN: What is the first thing you do before starting a new project?
I think of a code name to refer to it :)
