sidibe··on At Amazon, some coders say their jobs have begun to resemble warehouse work
> won't there always be something to do that pushes the boundaries of human needs and desires that can't be done by AI?

No why would there be? Unless you are spiritual, there isn't any reason any of the physical processes that make up human thought can't be done artificially, probably much more efficiently. Society needs to confront the myth that automation is going to always open up more jobs that need human labor. It's comforting for people who hate the idea of UBI or other safety nets that people can keep "retraining". Eventually there's going to be nothing to retrain to (at least of nothing of economic value)

Don't downplay yourself! As the models get more advanced they are getting better at recognizing how amazing you are with your insightful prompts
sidibe··on OpenAI to buy AI startup from Jony Ive
They stopped the glasses with tiny fov that weren't useful, but they have all (FB, Apple, Google, multiple startups like North, Xreal) been working on more subtle glasses continuously since then, it's just been hard and have needed display/power breakthroughs. Google announced new glasses again yesterday. Looks promising but live demo sputtered out at the end, still not gonna be ready for a while
sidibe··on Veo 3 and Imagen 4, and a new tool for filmmaking called Flow
This is coming for everyone's jobs. It'd be possibly an OK or good thing after some adaptation if I didn't suspect that the people with power during this transition were nihilists or people who's mission in life is to be relatively rather than absolutely well off. If everyone can have what they need they will not feel important enough
sidibe··on Veo 3 and Imagen 4, and a new tool for filmmaking called Flow
Well they've labelled it 3/4 so I'm guessing they can't but you can use 4 it in whisk

 on the "you can get Gemini to impersonate you" one. And the way he presented it: if someone asked me for help I would just give them a short answer but now Gemini can read all my history and impersonate me and actually help them!
sidibe··on LLMs are more persuasive than incentivized human persuaders
Yes they have gotten better. If you give Gemini 2.5 the right context it seems to solve whatever. Drop in the folder + docs and it tends to be right about how to proceed now. I think people who don't find LLMs useful now aren't trying with the right context.
sidibe··on LLMs are more persuasive than incentivized human persuaders
Now that'd be crazy, like letting a Tesla drive you around in the back seat.

Give it a decade though and people won't think twice about it, though I do hope we'd still do that kind of thing ourselves

sidibe··on LLMs are more persuasive than incentivized human persuaders
Yes when the knowledge jobs are all done best by AI the rest will follow shortly. we will need to adapt to being "useless" as far as work goes and find other sources of worth. There's still a lot of people who want to compare it to Bitcoin hype around here, IMO the next few years everything is going to change way faster than than it ever has.

For the record I always thought Kurzweil and that crowd was clowns, now I think I was the wrong one

sidibe··on Will AI systems perform poorly due to AI-generated material in training data?
Yeah I think it's because people want it to be true that LLMs will stop improving and regress. If nothing else they can always just access data from the before times if it was an actual issue

So much burying the head in the sand from people in this industry and wishful thinking that AI will stop before whatever they're good at. A little reminder a couple years ago most people hadn't even heard of LLMs.

sidibe··on Bus stops here: Shanghai lets riders design their own routes
I hope the end state of self driving will be buses or vans doing on demand routing like Uber Pool is supposed to be but on a larger scale and maybe with fewer points for pickup and drop off.

A. The Remedy Should Open Access to Google’s Datasets and Search Index.

B. The Remedy Should Prevent Google from Extending Its Monopolies into Query-Based AI Tools.

Good luck with that YC...

Yup, if Elon hadn't gotten so jealous and spiteful to him I'm sure he'd be one of Elon's leading sycophants.
sidibe··on New Study: Waymo is reducing serious crashes and making streets safer
I hope that means yield to cyclists ahead of them. To me the whole point of getting in the bike lane is to avoid cases where the cyclist going straight is in a blind spot during the car's right turn. As a cyclist I'll sometimes get into the car lane at intersections to make sure I'm seen. seems like the car being required to let the bike behind them go straight is exactly what you'd want to avoid
sidibe··on Elon Musk Just Doesn't Understand the Sci-Fi Visions of Iain M. Banks
The people who view culture as a dystopia either feel like they must be working and useful and don't see a way to do that when everything is provided if they choose not to work, or (and I hope this isn't it) they want to be relatively much better off than others

I understand the first one but that's something people need to get over, it's already a part of being old or having a handicap that makes you unemployable, I think future generations will grow up without equating hard work with ethics

sidibe··on Tesla Board Opened Search for a CEO to Succeed Elon Musk
First thing a new sane CEO does is reset expectations so they're not blamed for not fulfilling all the fantasies Elon kept promising.

sidibe··on Elon Musk Just Doesn't Understand the Sci-Fi Visions of Iain M. Banks
A pet who gets whatever they want and is encouraged to find and do what makes them happy. Feeling important and actually doing things that feel important is nice but if AI is better than you at everything its the best we can expect we can expect with AI.

I get how it can be dystopian to people who live for competition or just need to feel useful but we need to adapt if AI is going to be better than us at any jobs to feel fulfilled with recreation and hobbies. It's doable, retirees have to face this situation with a bunch of additional stress they don't have in the Culture

Many of those probably wanted Biden to win but don't want to antagonize Trump after he won. If I had to guess there at least Sundar and Bezos didn't want Trump to win

> That said, I was surprised to learn much later that, by all accounts, Elon Musk was a competent and resourceful leader in SpaceX's early days. Maybe these stories are just his personality cult in action, but I found it plausible

He's good at having and raising money which was what SpaceX needed, I think he was probably the same then as he is now. Reading about his early days at Tesla and the PayPal stuff, I don't really buy the idea he was ever different and took a dark turn. He's the type of person that will never self-regulate and somehow has never faced any negative consequences for lying and self-aggrandizing so has kept pushing it further
