sidhanthp··on Meta is not threatening to leave Europe
I don't think that's business as usual in China. I don't think Facebook operates there.
sidhanthp··on Alphabet Announces Fourth Quarter and Fiscal Year 2021 Results
Not 10c, it's $10 :)
sidhanthp··on Employees given three months to return to Facebook office
NGL, I have no clue what this article is saying.

Does this mean that people who were approved for remote work will be forced to come back into the office? Or that people who are supposed to come into the office Jan 2022 will continue to have to come into the office in Jan 2022 (i.e., no change).

sidhanthp··on Google may cut pay of staff who work from home
You have to be there for > half the year to legally be a resident
sidhanthp··on Investing in Clubhouse
All out folks. Maybe in a few weeks :)
sidhanthp··on Investing in Clubhouse
I have ~5 extra invites sitting. Let me know if you want one. Bio has my Twitter.
sidhanthp··on Why You Shouldn't Max Your 401(k)
Doesn't the option to withdraw your 401k exist with a 10% penalty (+ taxes)?

If you're including employer match here, it looks like you can still get instant, guaranteed gain.

sidhanthp··on F.lux automatically adjusts your computer lighting to match your environment
I have a cheap set of dual monitors (~$110 / monitor) and it works perfectly for me.
sidhanthp··on Facebook account now required to login to Oculus devices
This is very rarely the case outside the US.
sidhanthp··on Principles for great product managers
Awesome article, Alex!

An FYI: your link to the book Inspired is broken. You might want to put an Amazon affiliate link :)

sidhanthp··on Ask HN: My GitHub account got suspended without any notice
The same thing happened to my Mom's Facebook account.

She's a realtor that used Facebook extensively to stay in contact with her clients, as well as advertise for new business.

One day, the account disappeared for malicious activity.

PS: if anyone sees this and can help, shoot me a DM on Twitter :)

sidhanthp··on Limitations and pitfalls of the job interview
I've seen internship to offer rates exceed 80% :P

Lots of Big Tech is in that general range. I actually don't know of any top companies where the offer rate is ~30%.

sidhanthp··on Andrew Yang's Data Dividend Project is pushing Big Tech to pay users for data
The people on HN, especially those who use Facebook regularly, are worth on average _significanty_ more than $17 to the company per year.

It’s hard to remember, the average person makes $X,000 globally and Facebook has a huge % of the planet on their platform.

HN users make in the upper echelon of wages, and are comfortable with their computers and online shopping.

sidhanthp··on People think they're calling restaurants directly but Grubhub is getting a fee
I have instantly gained respect for Buzzfeed's reporting.
sidhanthp··on Ask HN: What startup/technology is on your 'to watch' list?
The hype on Twitter can get a bit annoying - but Roam is seriously awesome.
sidhanthp··on Ask HN: What startup/technology is on your 'to watch' list?
https://www.letsdeel.com - super easy payroll for remote teams. Onboarding / payments is awesome.
sidhanthp··on Private client-side-only PWAs are hard, but now Apple made them impossible
I think this is a good idea. Developers should not be able to store something on my computer indefinitely without my consent. This doesn't apply to applications users add to their home screen.

This doesn't "destroy" the PWA ecosystem. Just makes a user's intention explicit when they save a PWA to their home screen, rather than continuing to use it within the browser.

From the WebKit Blog (https://webkit.org/blog/10218/full-third-party-cookie-blocki...) "Web applications added to the home screen are not part of Safari and thus have their own counter of days of use."

sidhanthp··on What happened when Buffer stopped using Slack on Fridays
Honestly, I never viewed Slack as synchronous. I kept all notifications off, and checked it whenever I had a few minute break or wanted to catch up on our office's conversation.

Slack allowed anyone to contact me by tagging me or @here, so it was obvious when someone wanted it to be synchronous (therefore breaking my communication), but the grand majority of communication was asynchronous unlike email - which does a poor job of differentiating between messages that should (and shouldn't) break attention.
