"Loophole"? The secret ingredient is crime...
shrikant··on CSS Bed: Classless CSS themes to use as starting points in web development
I used chota.css (https://jenil.github.io/chota/) in the past to build a couple internal sites for my then-employer. Only ~3kb compressed! And the name stays relevant-ish because it means "small" in Hindi...

Edited to add: it's not classless though. Marx would disapprove.

shrikant··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
I remember the inverse of that in Chennai -- scheduled running water for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evenings when we had to stockpile water in every container possible.
shrikant··on The senior engineer death spiral
I call this (well, in my head) the Sam Altman Fellow Kids style.

It's clearly a deliberate affectation that they're putting on because other words are properly capitalise (COVID, PIP, I, his own name, etc.). The author's other posts are properly formatted so I assume this was a a stylistic choice they made to illustrate their point on it being stream-of-consciousness.

I just find it more annoying on tweets because they've clearly fought the phone keyboard to override autocaps just to sound down with their fellow kids.

shrikant··on Show HN: Share your AI Setup, Learn from others
As always with smallish tools/services like these whipped up with an LLM, I find there's more value in seeing the "source code", i.e. the prompt itself.

Turns out it's quite useful in this instance, and I just made a small couple of tweaks to get a summary of my own workflow.

FWIW, this is what I modified it to:

Help me share how I work with AI with my teammates.

Use our existing conversations and relevant local tools within my permissions to discover my agents, harnesses, skills, connections and working practices. Keep secrets, raw configuration and private project details out of the draft. Explain how my tools work together and develop a concrete workflow where the evidence supports it, rather than listing installed software. Draft from what you know without a questionnaire; ask one short question only if an essential gap prevents a useful draft. If local inspection is unavailable, use our conversation without claiming otherwise. Save a private draft, show me the exact preview, and wait for my explicit approval before publishing.

shrikant··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
Also, that user's last four (three of them in the last hour) submissions have all been similar "finding" reports from a Claude-generated mystery research group website. All which contain exclusively AI slop articles. Ugh.
shrikant··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
Pretty sure that OP ("jakobgreenfeld") is the "founder". That user's last four submissions have all been similar "finding" reports from a Claude-generated mystery research group website.
shrikant··on Three sites made 215,128 “best software” pages for AI. Perplexity cites them
Agreed, I thought the subject matter was interesting enough to try and labour through the tedious prose, but once I got to "Their scale is the point." I just had to stop and just skim the rest.
shrikant··on Show HN: The load-bearing vocabulary of Claude
Yeah Ctrl/Cmd+F works just fine on Firefox as well.
shrikant··on How to organize Claude Code for product work
Especially since all OP seems to do is churn these out and exclusively only post them? Ugh, these AI thought leaders...
shrikant··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
Yeah when I worked at Deloitte Consulting, we had similar training that said something to the effect of "don't put something in an email that wouldn't feel comfortable as a newspaper headline".
shrikant··on If coding has been solved, why does software keep getting worse?
I believe the bigger failure mode in that scenario is the fact that the site was storing user passwords in plaintext (either directly or effectively). Users tend to reuse passwords, so when there's a breach, more than just the user accounts for that site would be compromised.
shrikant··on Cleaning up after AI rockstar developers

shrikant··on NPM packages from RedHat have been compromised
Oooh now I'm wondering if this may have contributed to their Docker image distribution service getting disrupted earlier today... https://status.redhat.com/incidents/jn6r256zc62c
shrikant··on The worst job interview I ever had
Wow, why do you think the communication was so off? (I don't know much about French)

My guess would be that the intervewing manager was just translating English sentences directly into their French worded equivalent without actually following the rules/grammmar, and so it was confusing -- right?

I initially thought they might be attempting to read off a Google Translate conversion but I suppose if that interview was face to face then that'd be implausible.

shrikant··on Incident Report: Railway Blocked by Google Cloud [resolved]
I can easily remember a few multi-hour AWS incidents from the last few years, since I've had to handle the resulting fires at my various employers at those times. Not sure how you missed these, or do they not count as "global outages" for some reason?

December 2021: https://www.cloudcomputing-news.net/news/aws-outage-takes-do...

June 2023: https://newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/the-scoop-52

October 2025: https://www.cnbc.com/2025/10/20/amazon-web-services-outage-t...

Each of these were massive outages impacting very large services across the web.

shrikant··on UK government replaces Palantir software with internally-built refugee system
Page 68 of this PDF (https://covid19.public-inquiry.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/05...), section G2 titled "Testing and Operations Data" has some high level information. I know the details because I designed and built the first version when I was at Deloitte, so I suppose it depends on how much you believe me...
shrikant··on UK government replaces Palantir software with internally-built refugee system
The core data platform for NHS Test and Trace was not Excel based at all. It was a reasonably simple but solid AWS setup using S3, Glue and the smallest Redshift instance at the time, on top of which were Tableau/Quicksight/PowerBI dashboards. Some organisations insisted on enabling an "export to CSV" feature which was...not a good idea for so many reasons, and Public Health England (PHE) in the article found out one of those reasons the hard way.
shrikant··on AI that copied musical artist files copyright claim against artist [updated]
Standard BTF nonsense.

(BTF = Blue Tick Fucker, an initialism I'm trying to get to take off, primarily in my WhatsApp groups where there's loads of self-proclaimed geopolitics experts claiming to know exactly what's going on and what will happen and why.)

shrikant··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
Yeah I can see that, even when a recruiter contacted me a few years back for a data engineering position, they were looking strictly for experience in JVM-based languages.
shrikant··on CodingFont: A game to help you pick a coding font
I tend to bounce around between Ubuntu Mono, Fira Code and Comic Mono. Comic Mono is not amongst the participants in this game, and my finalists were Ubuntu Mono and Fira Code, so I guess I'm pretty pleased that I've stayed consistent as well!

Just fyi, myopathy is a general term for diseases that affect some types of muscles, while myopia is short-sightedness -- assuming the latter is what you were going for!
shrikant··on LotusNotes
Baffling to see this, in every place I've worked at that used Lotus Notes, it was an absolute dog on the system. Clunky, slow, and ground everything else to a halt. And this was the case even on a relatively modern laptop in 2019. Not what I'd call performant at all!

People who complain about aspects about movies they didn't like should all be as forthright as GP in explaining why exactly they didn't like that aspect, so I can decide whether to entirely disregard the opinion.

That's beautiful, I'd love a monospaced variant of this to replace Comic Mono in my IDE/Fira Mono in my terminal. IANA font expert though, would that even be possible?

> If you work in technology, you are part of this force, whether you like it or not.

Disappointing to see you downvoted. I agree with this partially, but only because I think it applies more broadly.

I work in tech (although not in Big Tech/Mag 7/FAANG/whatever they're called now), and I feel quite acutely that anyone in the field is culpable in part for the enabling the absolutely massive dump that the capital-adjacent class is taking on the world to have their power play fantasies play out.

To the extent that I've started apologising on behalf of the field/profession to non-technical folks when they complain about yet another dark pattern/"growth hack" designed to steal their attention and money.
