shpoonj··on The Disappointing Surprise From Apple
Whether it is stupid, even if we're just going to assume such a thing can be viewed objectively, is beside the point.

If you think it is stupid, don't use it. If you want your money back because you bought something that you didn't properly research, why not ask for it instead of whining about it on your blog?

And, on the point of Apple not advertising 'unfeatures' (I like that term), we, as consumers, make decisions in these situations about how much we're willing to research different investments ahead of time. Likely, for most, an OS is not something to research in depth when it's only $20. But it's only $20. Downgrade if you hate it so much. Live in the past. But don't claim you feel violated... when you made the decision. She violated herself if anything.

shpoonj··on The Disappointing Surprise From Apple
If you don't like a product, don't use it.

If you don't properly research a product, don't complain about its features.

Do some research next time.

Take responsibility for your actions instead of blaming others.

These are elementary principles.

shpoonj··on AppFog Wants To Do For Developer Platforms What Google Did For EMail
AppFog wants to make developer platforms load slowly and be so disorganized and haphazard that you can't tell what's going on... great.
shpoonj··on A new vehicle interface
When I read the title, I really got my hopes up that this was about replacing the steering wheel, pedals, shifter, etc.

I was sorely disappointed... this is just another rehash.

shpoonj··on Kima Ventures' Jeremie Berrebi says no journalists told true Sparrow story
Yeah I was just thinking... is this guy new?
shpoonj··on Kima Ventures' Jeremie Berrebi says no journalists told true Sparrow story
A great example of this, and I believe the best, is OS X. It's not subscription based, but it's affordable and recurring.
shpoonj··on Why Google's Nexus 7 Tablet Is Hotter Than Apple's iPad
Writer must be new; Apple seldom sells out, and when they do, it's for a day or two at the most.
shpoonj··on Ask HN: Should we hire a designer or try ourselves?
If you want your website, app, whatever to look like it was made by someone who dedicates their time and energy to design, you'd better find someone who meets that description.
shpoonj··on How Amazon Can Disrupt Smartphones and Take Apple & Google to School
'Disrupt' now means 'force adverts and consumerism instead of create value' in case you didn't know.

The author has a grim view of the future and wants to run toward it... is this normal?

shpoonj··on How an iPad mini Could Define The Small Tablet Market
What evidence is there that Apple intends to make a slightly smaller non retina iPad? This sounds ridiculous...
shpoonj··on Malcolm Gladwell asserts that Gates, not Jobs, will be remembered in 50 years
Right. Wanting to be remembered is just as selfish of an act as attaching your name to a donation.

Whether Jobs donated anonymously or didn't donate at all, I can respect him so much more for not chasing attention and approval.

shpoonj··on Malcolm Gladwell asserts that Gates, not Jobs, will be remembered in 50 years
It's funny when people who won't be remembered at all try to detract from the legacies of great people.

Okay not funny, just stupid.

Gladwell has joined the ranks of those who make ridiculous statements about things they are ignorant of just to grab headlines.

shpoonj··on Malcolm Gladwell asserts that Gates, not Jobs, will be remembered in 50 years
Oh so you have Jobs' personal finance records? That's amazing! And you're breaking the news here on HN of all places!

Okay but seriously, you don't have a clue what Jobs did with his money and neither do I. So there's no point speculating.

shpoonj··on Take my money, HBO
I wouldn't pay a single cent to HBO.

I would, on the other hand, pay $40 via iTunes per season of Game of Thrones.

Networks are outdated. Stop trying to change them and adapt like the rest of us.

shpoonj··on Chromebox
I'd say you should compare Apple's and Google's sales reports.
shpoonj··on Chromebox
With advertising and spec sheets like this, you're right. But if they tried a little, their demographic could be massive.
shpoonj··on Stop hand coding, start Zen Coding
I prefer accurate statements to catchy statements.
shpoonj··on Stop hand coding, start Zen Coding
The end result is the same. Who are you to tell me how I should arrive there? I don't write vanilla HTML, but your tool of choice doesn't need to be mine. That's a choice for the individual to make and whatever they decide is fine. What's not okay is trying to make that decision for them or telling them that their choice is inferior.

It's not. Though your thought process might be.

Get some self esteem so you don't need to author posts insulting strangers.

shpoonj··on Intel to offer ‘free’ Wi-Fi in its ultrabooks and tablets
Connects automatically when in range of any supported network even when device is in sleep mode. What a wonderful way to needlessly drain your battery.

If your device is asleep during your commute, do you really expect it to have any charge left after driving through downtown and connecting to two dozen wifi networks?

Sounds like more Windows malware to me.

shpoonj··on The futures of Facebook and Google are embedded in these two images
Naive question:

The author says image views are a subset of page views. Is this accurate when the photos are shown in a light box capable of cycling through thousands of photos without leaving the initial page?

shpoonj··on Hunting Down My Son's Killer
Downvoted for asking for evidence of claims... Claims that the author admits many of the professionals he trusted enough to ask for guidance also raised.

You've gone soft, HN.

shpoonj··on Hunting Down My Son's Killer
I would argue that the same callous personality evidenced in a person capable of infidelity would also come into play when considering whether or not to reveal said infidelity.

Wouldn't you agree?

shpoonj··on Hunting Down My Son's Killer
Who are you to decide what is offensive and what should and should not be posted?

And yes I read the article and no I am not so foolish as to believe that there is only one possible cause for every result.

shpoonj··on Hunting Down My Son's Killer
So there was a paternity test, right? I'm assuming there was and it just wasn't mentioned in the write up.

The author states with authority that he is the father, but doesn't mention the tests confirming it whereas every other finding is linked to the tests involved.

Please don't tell me, in an article praising science, that this was left to faith or trust or whatever.

shpoonj··on Yahoo Axis
lol
shpoonj··on Yahoo Axis
If you've used the app, you know that something isn't right here. Seems like(and reads like, especially compared to other app store reviews) these are being written by Yahoo employees trying to avoid a lay off.
shpoonj··on The CS6 Desktop Brand System
Here's the gist of it: we tried harder than ever to make even uglier dock icons... and we succeeded.
shpoonj··on GitHub for Windows
Very very very confused about why they chose to use an outdated logo for the property.
shpoonj··on Ask HN: What are the most inspirational blog posts you've ever read?
Thank you so much for a video without christian music... I could actually watch this one.
shpoonj··on Engineers with some free time... Click Ctrl - G - 6 at ZeroCater.com
I don't get it.
