shpoonj··on Twitter is tracking you on the web
Curtis lives in his own little bubble where the average internet user is COMPLETELY unaware of the possibility that they're being watched. Even my parents, who are nontechnical, in the mid 90s, would warn me about these sorts of things.

Regardless, Twitter went about this the proper way and I'm glad they're doing what they're doing. Happy to have the Do Not Track option too.

Nice sensationalist story though... what will he throw a fit over next time?

shpoonj··on LESS Prefixer
This is great... wish I'd had it before I made my own.

I would suggest either minifying it or aligning the properties. Or both!

shpoonj··on Sunday hack: Instagram / Google maps mashup - feedback?
Not trying to be negative... I think it's really neat... but I also feel like a creep now for looking at my neighbor's photos.
shpoonj··on Show HN: My first web app - Resumonk - A beautifully simple resume builder

I like the website, but you're not getting much information above the fold on ye olde MacBook.

shpoonj··on Show HN: FB hackathon HTML5 photo app, demoing in 2 hours
I don't get it... it's a loading screen with busted search? If you're going to stall users on a loading screen, maybe, somewhere, there could be an explanation of what we're waiting on... but I waited ten minutes, nothing happened, no explanation was given... moving on.
shpoonj··on The OMGPOP acquisition: 6 weeks later
I'm baffled that the author doesn't consider the acquisition as a cause for the decline.
shpoonj··on CSS to Less
This would be great if it didn't strip comments and took your redundant css and replaced it with a mixin.

Oh and if it declared variables for repeated values, I'd use it for sure.

edit: Just noticed it doesn't format prefixed properties neatly, lists properties in a weird order, and for whatever reason, the order of elements gets rearranged. That's a major issue... for some reason, my .container ended up at the very bottom.

shpoonj··on Bing design = retro Google?
The most popular *nix UI is the one you get with OS X and it's toolbar is at the top. So is the standard toolbar on Ubuntu.

And there are not thousands of linux interfaces. Having the ability to customize does not mean there's a new interface every time you adjust something. Leave the hyperbole on 4chan.

shpoonj··on Bing design = retro Google?
Do you have a screenshot of Google with a background image? I don't recall ever seeing one.
shpoonj··on Bing design = retro Google?
How does Chrome OS resemble old Windows?

here's chrome os: http://cdn.techpp.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/chrome-os-a...

here's windows 7: http://www.techfuels.com/attachments/windows-7-2000-nt/28356...

Do you mean to say Chrome OS looks like Windows because the toolbar is on the button like Windows and not on the top like *nix?

shpoonj··on Data Engineer in Google Case Is Identified - author of NetStumbler
Thank you for summing this up so eloquently.
shpoonj··on [dead]
A small, second cursor that hangs out at the bottom of the browser window and only moves on the x axis?

Well, I'm annoyed that I clicked that link, so mission accomplished?

shpoonj··on Cube - A Game About Google Maps
Oddly, when I zoom in twice, the game is visible. It's not usable, but it's there!
shpoonj··on Cube - A Game About Google Maps
Same issue. Canary on a 2008 MacBook.
shpoonj··on Kickstarter game project raises $10k, made using a DIY Platformer tutorial.
I don't mind them using RPG Maker... but I don't understand how they have any investors considering how cliche the project sounds and how terrible their presentation skills are. Possibly the worst pitch I've seen.
shpoonj··on Account Closing (a.k.a., The Greatest E-mail Ever Written)
a. the response poorly written. the initial message was to the point

b. no

c. yes it does

shpoonj··on Apple Q2 2012: 35.1M iPhones, 11.8M iPads, 4M Macs, and 7.7M iPods
iPods: they’re up from the same quarter a year ago != iPod didn’t fare so well: Sales are down 15% over last year’s quarter
shpoonj··on Apple Q2 2012: 35.1M iPhones, 11.8M iPads, 4M Macs, and 7.7M iPods
My point here is that the number of iPads is listed twice...
shpoonj··on Apple Q2 2012: 35.1M iPhones, 11.8M iPads, 4M Macs, and 7.7M iPods
Also...

"In that period Apple sold 37.04M iPhones, 15.43M iPads, and 5.2M Macs. Even the iPad sold well with 15.4M units."

Being a journalist keeps getting easier...

shpoonj··on Apple Q2 2012: 35.1M iPhones, 11.8M iPads, 4M Macs, and 7.7M iPods
"Overall hardware sales decreased from its record previous quarter but with the notable exception of the iPods: they’re up from the same quarter a year ago." > "However, the iPod didn’t fare so well: Sales are down 15% over last year’s quarter."

What?

shpoonj··on Think GPS is cool? IPS will blow your mind
You're right... it could also be used to oppress people.
shpoonj··on Think GPS is cool? IPS will blow your mind
Nothing pertaining to shopping malls and consumerism has ever or will ever blow my mind.

Sorry I'm not sorry.

Can we get back to using our powers for good now?

shpoonj··on The Underpants Project
I entered meow too. It also forget my word and fingerprint.
shpoonj··on Ask HN: Bootstrap Alternatives?
http://getskeleton.com/

It's not nearly as complex as Bootstrap which is great when you want create some pages quickly and use your own styles.

shpoonj··on Account Closing (a.k.a., The Greatest E-mail Ever Written)
Pathetic because: a. the student had a legitimate complaint b. the recipient should have just done it instead of wasting time writing that nonsensical response(seriously, it's not even funny) c. the university seems to find the incompetence of their employees amusing, even 13 years later
shpoonj··on Hey, I found you a Technical Co-counder
Do people still have Flash installed?
shpoonj··on Crockford on Bootstrap's semicolon omission: “insanely stupid code”
What a child... Has anyone read the GitHub style guide? 'Do your best to never use a semicolon. This means avoiding them at line breaks and avoiding multi-statement lines.'

Grow up Crockford. Do research before you post. Stop assuming because you supposedly once knew how to do something, you still do, and always will. Times change.

However, this is all very exciting. It gives Twitter, or whatever other start up, an opportunity to replace an outdated piece of software by a nut case!

shpoonj··on Banned from Kickstarter for Being a Stalking Victim
Reductio ad absurdum much?

Was she banned for being a stalking victim? Absolutely not. You cannot reach that conclusion from the evidence given, and, furthermore, she was told, and told us, very clearly why she was banned. It didn't say for being a stalking victim. Stop being so dramatic. There's a war on.

shpoonj··on Show HN: Each day is a gift
Well that was pretty rude of me to say... I'm projecting from a deep and unsatiated desire for folks to rally around trying to create worth. There really aren't so many projects out there that do.

However, these are sincere questions... How does this add worth? Who benefits? What is the point?

shpoonj··on Show HN: Each day is a gift
How does this seem like a good idea? A dollar could buy a cup of coffee or a cheeseburger or any number of things, but instead you'd waste it on this junk? It's junk. I can not benefit in any way from receiving any of these things. They would all go directly into the trash. Essentially, all that this accomplishes is getting crap out of a warehouse and into a landfill. I'm sorry, but open your eyes. This is either a bad joke, or you need a wake up call.
