shortandsweet··on How long does a freezer stay frozen when the power goes out?
I keep a coffee mug filled with water in the freezer with a penny on top.
shortandsweet··on Google, Facebook make statements to staff about working from home for 2020
Why Tahoe? I'm on the NV side. Super crowded.
shortandsweet··on Two women quietly reading books in an SF bar started an introvert revolution
Have you been to your local library? It's likely filled with mental ill and homeless.
shortandsweet··on Ask HN: Best books you read in the past decade?
You have heard of witnesses supposedly seeing the same event but having profoundly different interpretations haven't you? They believe them fully but what they see changes based on genetics, culture, history of the person. There are as many realities as there are people.
shortandsweet··on Scientists Likely Found Way to Grow New Teeth for Patients
Do you find it more or less effective than regular flossing? I've been looking for alternatives to plastic picks/floss. Also they seem to be damaging my gums as I floss too hard

Is a water jet equal to or better than flossing?
shortandsweet··on Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health, Aging, and Disease [pdf]
Will it help with gout?
shortandsweet··on Why It’s So Hard to Change People’s Commuting Behavior
Well I guess you didn't grow up near the subway. It's a lot better now than it was.
shortandsweet··on Alienated, Alone and Angry: What the Digital Revolution Did?
Lower class has more connectivity due to need. Upper class not so much. I always thought it was more fun being poor due to this but rich was more comfortable.
shortandsweet··on Reasons Why Job Seekers Are Not Given Feedback
Uh no they don't. At least not in all cases. They refused to give me feedback after requesting it. I even asked an inside friend to follow up with the recruiter.
shortandsweet··on Reasons Why Job Seekers Are Not Given Feedback
Not entirely true. I can attempt to shape the world how I want and then give up after being satisfied with my efforts. I left it at what I already posted and moved on. I believe feedback is important but if people aren't listening then that's OK too.
shortandsweet··on Reasons Why Job Seekers Are Not Given Feedback
I had an interview with Facebook and was eventually turned down. I asked for feedback at least twice, and even from a person on the inside that I know personally if they could get any from the recruiter. Nothing.

Then a few days later they sent me an email asking for my feedback! I n/a'd everything and made sure to list all of my interviewers names.

shortandsweet··on Ask HN: Best book / resources on leadership, especially for tech teams?
Ok, where's your book so I can read and compare?
shortandsweet··on Firefox Full-device VPN
Exactly. I was baited by the Firefox name.
shortandsweet··on Disc rot is a challenge for both archivists and collectors (2017)
What.cd most certainly wasn't the best. They were really stuck up and got what they deserved. I was amazed at the process just to get access to what they didn't even own. Waffles and oink were so much better.
shortandsweet··on There Is No Cure for Burnout
Thanks for bringing that up. I felt the same. It really diminished the article and let's not forget ageism.
shortandsweet··on New, slippery toilet coating provides cleaner flushing, saves water
I just thought of another idea. A lot of times public bathrooms will have a disposable, flushable, parchment paper that can be placed on the seat and a flap leads down to the water. If you were to have 4 of these flaps instead of 1 I think it would protect the bowl enough.
shortandsweet··on New, slippery toilet coating provides cleaner flushing, saves water
I had to look it up... Haha.

Have you tried a space toilet?

And I know you mentioned a feeding tube, can they add fiber in your diet somehow? I used to get similar issues while not eating enough fiber.

Any forums of people with similar conditions that could recommend solutions?

Best of luck.

shortandsweet··on Canada is the world’s newest tax haven (2017)
Reasonable compared to Zurich and NYC maybe but what makes those prices reasonable other then being within the average of the global cities? Just because it's the way we've been doing things doesn't mean it's the right way.

What incentives do builders have to build? Less supply, more money for those that own already, including those on community planning boards, permitting office, etc. And who would buy? Those that would have moved on since they couldn't afford rent. Those that are left are too poor to afford it. Companies look for the cheapest way possible to establish themselves, not where the money is.

Your morals are telling when you say we should learn to accept tax evasion.

Try a parachute. Put some to down in the water before you let loose.
shortandsweet··on Live in an adult dorm? Starcity thinks you would, for the right price [video]
That statement reflects your own feelings not the state of society or anyone else.
shortandsweet··on State of Health Report Shows Growing Despair Among American Men
You could swap the two and your words still holds true. It means nothing. There is no substance to what you said. There's even some group, Maga I think it is, there is no equivalent for women. Who's getting sick of who?

All I see is individuals being more choosey. People ghost both ways now a day. No gender does it more than the other.

shortandsweet··on State of Health Report Shows Growing Despair Among American Men
About 77 percent of public school teachers were female and 23 percent were male in 2015–16, with a lower percentage of male teachers at the elementary school level (11 percent) than at the secondary school level (36 percent).

First hit on the googly

In what country? Have you been to any US public schools in the last 30 years?
shortandsweet··on PG&E turning off power to protect against fire has created a new disaster
You can't say that for sure until you've read the document that allows PG and E to utilize the land. Each and every agreement is different.
shortandsweet··on PG&E turning off power to protect against fire has created a new disaster
Being cheap is how this problem started. You want to get more cheap?
shortandsweet··on PG&E turning off power to protect against fire has created a new disaster
There are. More paths (lines) or bigger, beefier lines with operational margin built in. Costs more money though.
shortandsweet··on PG&E turning off power to protect against fire has created a new disaster
How do you know it is their responsibility to trim trees? It all depends on the easement legal details. In some cases, they may be, but in others the property owner would be. The lines were fine until the vegetation got in the way!

I don't know anywhere in the world where a utility is responsible for events like these as CA has made PGE to be. Really makes you think. Why the sudden change when fires have been happening since the dawn of time? Why care so much so suddenly?

shortandsweet··on ‘This Did Not Go Well’: Inside PG&E’s Blackout Control Room
Incredibly callous. You should be ashamed. A 2 day notification is nothing especially as the entire state scrambles for backup power. What right does pg and e have to decide who lives and dies?
shortandsweet··on ‘This Did Not Go Well’: Inside PG&E’s Blackout Control Room
They are required to provide that power. By law.
