https://searchengineland.com/report-google-ending-first-clic... Google is ending requiring news publishers from showing content that would otherwise be behind a paywall for free.
shoota··on Google: search for an application
No windows apps?
shoota··on Person with a long rifle and body armor in the Main Group Building of MIT
I think you'll find a lot libertarians who disagree with putting restrictions on either.
shoota··on Windows 8 Pro price going from $40 to $200 on Feb 1
What does that even mean? They're a corporation of course they're about making profit.
shoota··on Why I'm returning my Microsoft Surface RT
I was just at a Microsoft store this morning and I did not find the above experience to be true at all. In fact when I stopped by the Apple store the staff was much more intrusive.
shoota··on Google Voice lost my business number. How I got it back, and what I learned.
Office 365?
shoota··on Student Loans: Debt for Life
Definitely not. Most public schools have in state tuition of under $10,000 per year with lots of financial aid for those in need.
shoota··on Windows 8 productivity: Who moved my cheese? Oh, there it is.
Why not just download the 90 day developer trial of the OS?
shoota··on Google Will Pay Mozilla Almost $300M Per Year in Search Deal
Actually, Chrome gives the user a choice of search engine on first startup and does not have a default browser ( at least in the United States)
shoota··on Galaxy Nexus Available In US
If you're in California you'll pay tax on the whole $650 unfortunately.
shoota··on Amazon Will Pay Shoppers $5 to Walk Out of Stores Empty-Handed
Only if they use electronic methods such as jammers. As far as I can tell there is no law against making a building a large faraday cage isn't prohibited.
shoota··on Malls track shopper cell phones on Black Friday. To opt out? Turn off your phone
Is this even legal?

My question is if they are just monitoring cell phone signals they must have some way of intercepting them. Is this not akin to wire tapping?

shoota··on Android Ice Cream Sandwich Features
I am seeing the samething on Chrome 15 and Windows XP. I wonder if there is some issue with the font rendering engine on XP. Additionally, if you zoom in 3 or 4 times on the page the font suddenly clears up.
shoota··on “Greater Choice”
Unfortunately, your car is already being tracked. A lot parking garages, and toll roads are doing exactly this.
shoota··on Google TV, Take 2: Android Apps now on Smart TVs
Installing the hacked version of Flash does not required root access. On my Honeycomb tablet its as easy as installing any non-market APK.
shoota··on It’s Time For Google To Let Google Voice Live Up To Its Promise
I take it you've never used the Google Voice application for Android/iPhone? On my android phone the text message issues you've mention disappear as there are no forwarding numbers and every message arrives on my phone.
shoota··on Google TV, Take 2: Android Apps now on Smart TVs
When the new update comes out just install a hacked version of the Flash player again problem solved.
shoota··on Google TV, Take 2: Android Apps now on Smart TVs
Changing the user agent unblocks most of that content. Although most websites streams at 480i and look pretty miserable on an HDTV.
shoota··on Punchd - A Loyalty Program (from Google)
This seems to compete with some of the benefits of using Google Wallet. Although, I suppose a Google Wallet based loyalty card requires a lot larger investment by the business.

Also since a QR code is just an image and not something more complicated like an NFC tag what's to stop someone from taking a picture of it with their phone and scanning it multiple times at home?

edit:* well looking at their FAQ they say this: Patent-pending technology guarantees the integrity of your loyalty program. GPS triangulation, velocity analysis, and statistical variation keep things secure.

That still has to trust the smartphone to report the correct GPS and velocity, additionally I think faking the statistical variation might not be too difficult.

shoota··on Hacked
Using a TPM to ensure that only trusted software is accessing the fob as well. We're still a little ways off from a completely cryptographically secure software stack.
shoota··on Skype founders gunning for Netflix with Vdio
I'm sure that content producers want to be involved in an upstart by the founders of the filesharing network Kazaa.
shoota··on How to speed up the Android Emulator by up to 400%
Sure my point is that this article is mistitled. They're not increasing the emulator speed 400%, they're switching to Android x86 and achieving speed ups. This may be a good thing to do but is entirely different from improving the speed of the emulator itself.
shoota··on How to speed up the Android Emulator by up to 400%
That depends on whether or not there are any bugs or quirks in Android x86 that may or may not be present in Android for ARM and vice versa.
shoota··on How to speed up the Android Emulator by up to 400%
It's not really an emulator if you're running the x86 port of Android virtualized on x86 hardware...
shoota··on Thoughts on Spotify
My biggest gripe is the lack of music discovery functions. MOG is a competing service and I find their artist radio functionality helps me find new bands I would have never heard of before. Spotify lacks anything resembling discovery functions and that's why I cancelled my subscription. Additionally, how is there no web UI for music playing?
shoota··on Samsung and Google pull Nexus Prime, Ice Cream Sandwich launch
More likely it might conflict with Steve Job's funeral. I would imagine some high ranking Google officials are going to be there to pay their respects.
shoota··on VirtualBox is garbage
I'm running into an issue where I get intermittent internet disconnection on the guest. I can't pinpoint what's causing but gmail will just start to time out. Wasn't there in Vbox 3.x though.
shoota··on Why Siri just might work
In fact my chrome is working with MP4 video and this appears just to be Apple pushing quicktime on to Chrome users.
shoota··on Why Siri just might work
The version of Chrome I'm using must have removed H264 support. Quicktime as a fallback is rather disappointing as Flash seems like it has a much higher install base and smaller disk space footprint.
shoota··on Why Siri just might work
A little off topic but why when I go to http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/siri.html and try to watch the video am I prompted to download Quicktime. I thought apple was all about HTML5 and killing off browser plugins?
