shoghicp··on Coronal mass ejection impact imminent, two more earth-directed CMEs
It happened while the G4-G5 onset triggered, on the initial hit timing wise for local time.

Other people in the wider area saw similar issues, but mostly were local. Usually power is very stable.

shoghicp··on FLAC – Format overview
A lot of tagging programs add them as they just get appended or prepended to the file regardless their content. Sometimes one program reads a format but writes in the other, I have personally found a FLAC in the wild with ID3v2 at the front, ID3 at the back (corrupt) and FLAC metadata as well. The FLAC metadata inside was wrong, the valid one was outside at the front (sadly it was a broken JIS encoding).

There is no sane approach to media. Between legacy formats, legacy tagging, and all kinds of implementation specific bugs, you are in for a ride if you want to cater to more than one decoder out there :)

shoghicp··on FLAC – Format overview
Still flaky with double ID3 tags (front/back) or issues parsing metadata (so it fails decoding), but the issues with variable block size were solved. Most FLAC I handle on a large system play fine.

There are other issues related to streaming the FLAC via Range requests depending if it is WebAudio, <audio> or directly in a tab, however this applies to all audio/media in general.

shoghicp··on I've locked myself out of my digital life
You are correct. Those BankID physical devices have tamper switches that erase RAM on device opening.

An alternative is debit card bankid (as a smartcard, then add Mobile BankID back), but it's being deprecated soon.

shoghicp··on WebAuthn – The Passwordless Future
I use a Ledger for U2F/WebAuthn/GPG/SSH. Works pretty well, you can have multiple entities from a single seed. You only have to backup that seed (which can have attached passwords), and it can be recreated across any compatible device (Ledger, or Trezor, or even decode them manually)

To add to the previous response, for your wallet you can create multiple sub-accounts or sub-addresses, that can be used to specifically track payments. You can also use integrated addresses, which tags an encrypted payment id to go with it.

Additionally the sender can prove they sent a specific transaction output to you, without exposing information where it came from.

Interesting dual licensing

> This project is dual-licensed under MIT and the ABSE ("Anyone But Stefan Esser") license. Note that an additional exception to the license is added, forbidding use/redistribution of said content to his trainees as well, but only when in a 5 mile radius from "Stefan Esser" or while holding any sort of (video)conference/chat with him.

> Note that this license will only be used as long as what would capstone decode / that one other arm64 ida plugin thing by i0n1c ("Stefan Esser") are not under the MIT license. afterwards, all exceptions are cleared and basically MIT license applies

shoghicp··on BTC Hashrate dropped another 27% down ~62% form peak now at 2019 levels
Bitcoin mining at this time requires ASIC devices that cannot switch to other algorithms, other coins that use the same, sure, but not for example Ethereum.

Sending to an address means sending it to a "hash" of a public key (or a more complex script) on all modern formats. Then such script and data is revealed on spend.
shoghicp··on Representing SHA-256 Hashes as Avatars
BIP-39, uses 2048 words, and can all be distinguished from each other using the first four characters of each word. This is used to encode raw binary entropy, but adapting it to arbitrary amounts of data is straightforward. For padding I would suggest either pre-encoding length at the start or using classic block cipher padding (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padding_(cryptography) )

See for BIP-39, wordlists under a folder https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0039.mediawi...
