so, this is adblock?
shockzzz··on Meet: Fast way to schedule a one-to-one on the go
iPhone 5
shockzzz··on Get Your Shit Together
I'm basically lost in life without a constant reminder of my impending doom.
shockzzz··on Meet: Fast way to schedule a one-to-one on the go
I'd use this if Sunrise weren't butt slow on my iPhone...
shockzzz··on Be Kind
Oh, the engineerian contrarian. A legend as old as time itself.
shockzzz··on Google Dart Will Not Be the Next Default Programming Language of the Web
what?
shockzzz··on RethinkDB 2.0 is amazing
"RethinkDB is interesting" - absolutely

"RethinkDB is amazing" - TBD

I don't even think Slava would call RethinkDB "amazing" yet. I have no idea how to make a database, but I know there's a lot of work - and even more trial and error - that goes into making one "amazing."

This is certainly a big step for RethinkDB. But I'd be careful to put Petabytes of data across 200 nodes sharded 500 ways each.

shockzzz··on RethinkDB 2.0 is now production ready
It's a nightmare to scale and has performance quirks that are really unexpected. Many, many companies have had to spend enormous amounts of developer time to migrate off of MongoDB to something else.

shockzzz··on Ask HN: Why can GitHub get DDoS'd, but Google can't?
Startup idea? No it's miiiiiiiinneeee
shockzzz··on Ask HN: Why can GitHub get DDoS'd, but Google can't?
There should be like, DDoS insurance.
shockzzz··on Ask HN: Why can GitHub get DDoS'd, but Google can't?
So in theory, Google could DDoS anyone who has a smaller post office?

Also, wouldn't a DNS provider or hosting service be able to "beef up" to handle the traffic from a DDoS? Especially if it's a nice one, it seems like something you'd expect from them.

shockzzz··on Ask HN: Why can GitHub get DDoS'd, but Google can't?
Yes, they're kickin ass!

I wish there was a way to send that team a beer or something, they're heroes at this point.

shockzzz··on Ask HN: Why can GitHub get DDoS'd, but Google can't?
so it really is just handling traffic volume?
shockzzz··on Notes on Distributed Systems for Young Bloods (2013)
young bloods?
shockzzz··on Google Calendar for iPhone
Could we get a mac app too. I'm tired of Sunrise.
shockzzz··on Angular 2: Built on TypeScript
Remember Angular Dart?
shockzzz··on Ask HN: How do you find a job with a startup?
You don't join a startup. You join a company, a vision, a group of awesome people. Joining a startup for the sake of joining a startup is a fool's errand.

Another of putting this: why do you want to join a startup?

shockzzz··on Why This Tech Bubble is Worse Than the Tech Bubble of 2000
What he seems to be implying is that there are investment funds that exist solely for private equity investments, i.e. investments in startups as "VC" money. If that's true, and it's true that stuff like pension funds are sinking money into these "Equity Crowd Funds," then we're in real big trouble.
shockzzz··on Evolving the Dart Language with Dart Enhancement Proposals
In your experience, are Dart apps primarily ones that compile to Javascript and run in the browser, or server-side apps?
shockzzz··on Google Confirms Plan to Offer Wireless Service
Just found that! Thanks!
shockzzz··on Google Confirms Plan to Offer Wireless Service
Right, forgot about that. I wish something like this was rolled into AdBlock, but it'd be nice for viewing NYT and WSJ:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/referer-control/hn...

shockzzz··on Google Confirms Plan to Offer Wireless Service
How do websites actually implement that?
shockzzz··on Google Confirms Plan to Offer Wireless Service
I hate it when people post HN articles behind a paywall. It feels oddly familiar of Borat's catchphrase, "You will never get this! You will never get this!"
shockzzz··on How to Speak Startup
TechCrunch doesn't even make money and what they produce is shoddy journalism at best. How are they going to go around criticizing others who try to do something?

Douchebag journalists are WAY worse because they believe the bullshit they spew. At least startup douchebags get a whiff of their own shit.

shockzzz··on The Worst Way to Fire Someone: I Was There
That was definitely not a scream. Maybe it felt like it, but it wasn't.
shockzzz··on Build Static Websites
Now all you need is the ability to host an open-source version of Firebase on AWS and you're set.
shockzzz··on Ross: Attorney built on top of IBM's Watson
Yes, e-discovery is definitely the missing piece here. At the end of the day, lawyers need to be empowered by technology to do their job better, and ultimately make the legal system better.

And it should be called RICK.

shockzzz··on HackerSurfing: Free Housing and Food for Engineers Visiting SF
Or a mixed-race house. Let's be the melting pot America was supposed to be.
