sharts··on A Staff Engineer's Guide to Inventing Work
Getting double teamed by managers is wild.
sharts··on A Staff Engineer's Guide to Inventing Work
i think that speaks more to the politics of “handed the job of platform lead.”

i’m many orgs the leads of any team are often people that are primarily interested in linkedin bullet points and being gently fondled and groomed by upper management.

this happens in product and dev teams as well. consistently.

sharts··on A Staff Engineer's Guide to Inventing Work
definitely wrong. they need to be independent.

There’s Googlers on HN reading these who could probably fix this but won’t.

sharts··on A Staff Engineer's Guide to Inventing Work

sharts··on You are no longer invited to dinner
This seems to be the divide between introverts and extroverts.
sharts··on How Delhi cut electricity loss from 50 to 5 percent
Agreed. And nothing is stopping folks from running underground cables except crying about it being more expensive (i.e the true cost vs side effects to other populations so long as it doesn’t affect the consumers).

It’s as though all wealth and progress hinge on taking from others.

sharts··on Once Claude can measure something, it can make it faster
That’s why it’s probably a good idea to never stick to one model but kick off a fleet on the same tasks and in parallel and drive consensus.

At least, that’s what I’ve found to be useful by pitting claude/codex/etc against each other to keep them a bit more honest.

sharts··on The Curious Power of Punctuation
English can be so imprecise.
sharts··on Feds Target AI Critics as "Foreign Agents"
“It is unconscionable that an American citizen would not only undermine the interests of the United States, but also facilitate others in doing so.”

This must be satire. Most of congress seems to have no issue undermining and self-dealing.

sharts··on U.S. Government seizes 54-pound Martian meteorite sold at auction last year
Gov has a monopoly on violence. Everything else derives from that.
sharts··on There's a high chance of devices being sold with GrapheneOS preinstalled in 2027
Meh, too little and too late
sharts··on I said no and Apple said yes
Maybe if *nix devs and community actually prioritized putting together cohesive and consistenr systems with usability as a priority these garbage OSes wouldn’t have a market.

Unfortunately, there is too much friction for the average person who just wants to get things done instead of tinker for every specific use case they have.

Thus, it’s just less painful to put up with the hostile ads and spying.

sharts··on Pentagon says overreliance on AI contributed to missile strike on Iran school
