How to keep society civilized and not dystopian. How to measure and track how well our institutions are still working, not just government (is anyone doing this? are others noticing trouble?) Life without borders amid hostile interests. Allergic to fakery of the behavioral, turned-up-to-11 variety. (this might not bode well) I was a no-show for Game Theory class, I didn't realize it would turn out to be required. Is it offered as a MOOC?

shambolicfroli··on Ask HN: How do I make sure my non-technical parents are safe online?
Is there a good simple way that someone nontechnical could become confident that withgoogle.com is a trustworthy domain?
shambolicfroli··on Twitter’s Plan to Get People to Stop Yelling at Each Other
To see where new behavior (by the platform) is needed, they should look at what breaks incipient good discussions, and how to prevent that. (I'll also note that the HN conversation on this post seems quite different in tone from the usual HN.)

Elorant, what is the one short paragraph summary of this article, please?
shambolicfroli··on Jack Dorsey says it’s time to rethink the fundamental dynamics of Twitter
It says I have messages, but I don't seem to have figured out how to view them.
shambolicfroli··on Going hungry affects children for their whole lives
What about cheap functional vitamins? It used to be that the pills were small and you could buy a year's supply in one spicejar-sized bottle. Is there anything like this still available?
shambolicfroli··on Ask HN: What are good resources for life advice?
The Psychology of Human Misjudgment by Charles T. Munger https://www.harrisonbarnes.com/the-psychology-of-human-misju... (You may wish to scroll down to "psychology-based tendencies that, while generally useful, often mislead")

How about a separate bin for reuseables, with a once-a-month pickup?

It should be clear, so scavengers could easily see if anything of interest was inside.

shambolicfroli··on Researchers trick Tesla autopilot into driving into opposing traffic
I wonder how this Tesla issue relates to the admonition "stay in your lane".
shambolicfroli··on Show HN: SocialAmnesia – Open-source tool that auto-erases old Reddits/tweets
What are the misuse cases, and what does the software try to do about them?
shambolicfroli··on Ask HN: Is there a way to browse YC companies, live ones at least?
Curiosity, and wondering if I'd stumble upon something useful (to me or to someone I know), and wondering if 'make money' eclipses 'social-good'. But also apprehension, about misuse cases.
shambolicfroli··on Vanishing Violence
What about countries where there is still a lot of violence?
shambolicfroli··on Sam Altman: Bay Area is no longer the obvious place for startups
Where's that map of outmigration by demographic?
shambolicfroli··on Sam Altman: Bay Area is no longer the obvious place for startups
I read an article (a month or so back) saying that Austin's great quirkiness was a fluke, of an economic downturn creating a transitory surplus of very cheap housing.
shambolicfroli··on Sam Altman: Bay Area is no longer the obvious place for startups
Is there a map of commute-time average traffic speed in the bay area, and how it would compare to an e-bike rider?
shambolicfroli··on Sam Altman: Bay Area is no longer the obvious place for startups
How could a company facilitate a mass move, I wonder. Putting "anchor friends" in the new place.

shambolicfroli··on The Zipper Rule on German Roads
The way to avoid queue jumping is to match speeds, then zipper-merge when the lane ends.
shambolicfroli··on The Zipper Rule on German Roads
Basically, "lane splitting" for emergency vehicles. This is smart, we don't have it in the U.S. For more info: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rettungsgasse
shambolicfroli··on 64 and unemployed: One man's struggle to be taken seriously as a job applicant
Run the text on your site through grammarly.com, I'm seeing a typo at the end of the 1st sentence. And I agree with cottsak that the use of "we" doesn't help. Here's a thought, how about reaching out to @AustinAllred of @LambdaSchool (on twitter) to see if they want to try taking on the more grizzled set? (do they pay living expenses?) Alternatively, there's trucking. Big shortage for now, and reasonably high pay.
shambolicfroli··on When Too Cute Is Too Much, the Brain Can Get Aggressive
FYI to readers: The article gets unnecessarily graphic about violence against animals.
shambolicfroli··on Breaking Into Android Phones with a 3D-Printed Head
Hmm. When I had a skin cancer excised by a surgeon, in a followup visit a woman with no ID came in and made a point of taking closeup photos of full-face and profile. When I asked she said this was standard (for minor skin cancer removal). (Same place, where I walked into the room for the procedure, they had Carole King singing "it's too late" at loud volume on a portable stereo sitting on the ground.)
shambolicfroli··on What can I do about climate change?
Vote for people that belong to a party that accepts the science about severity of the problem and want to fix it.
shambolicfroli··on The Big Hack: How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate Amazon and Apple
Maybe it's worth talking about how we can better secure the chain of custody in shipping? I asked about this a year or two ago and my question got the thumbs-down.
shambolicfroli··on The Big Hack: How China Used a Tiny Chip to Infiltrate Amazon and Apple
Maybe it's worth talking about how we can better secure the chain of custody in shipping? I asked about this a year or two ago, here, and it got squelched.

I look forward to the author's next article, "Joining a Gang is Good."

(I don't know if it is something he will write, but I think the reasoning would be similar)

CalTrans doesn't diagonally stripe spaces like that? It would seem that they should.
