shakabrah··on Using AI to write better code more slowly
Sounds exhausting
shakabrah··on Lessons for Agentic Coding: What should we do when code is cheap?
5.5 came out two weeks ago. Maybe wait a bit before declaring victory?
shakabrah··on OpenClaw (ClawdBot) joins OpenAI
Mostly it seems people are excited about sending a whatsapp message to it and it will turn off all the lights in their office for example. Do similarly for emails, calendars, etc. that is, of course, you’re willing to accept the Faustian bargain it presents you.
shakabrah··on The Concise TypeScript Book
Please take your slop comments elsewhere. We are trying for something different here on HN.
shakabrah··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (January 2026)

shakabrah··on The Pragmatic Programmer: 20th Anniversary Edition (2023)
Amen
shakabrah··on Books by People – Defending Organic Literature in an AI World
We need this for technical books. I was a chapter into something the other day before deciding I’d been hoodwinked into reading someone’s ChatGPT output
shakabrah··on Handy – Free open-source speech-to-text app written in Rust
Who’s gonna tell him?
shakabrah··on What's happening to reading?
What I would have given to have had ChatGPT in college stuck reading Barthes.
shakabrah··on Data on AI-related Show HN posts
I know what you’re trying to do. People say this about life in general. But that really is not what is going on here.
shakabrah··on The provenance memory model for C
It made immediate sense to me it was Jen once I saw the code samples given
shakabrah··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
Depressing to see so many clearly vibe coded projects here.
shakabrah··on Google Play sees 47% decline in apps since start of last year
Not intended as a gotcha question but how is your a11y?
shakabrah··on Google Play sees 47% decline in apps since start of last year
Amen. I write Flutter at my day job and am working toward an exit ramp every day.
shakabrah··on Show HN: Minimal, self-hosted exercise tracker
I was a strong user for years but I would now suggest https://www.hevyapp.com/. It has everything strong does but also a web app where you can create your programs on.

Most importantly for this crowd, you get a rest api to your data if you spring for the cheap premium plan. Csv export is free though I’m pretty sure

shakabrah··on Microsoft is first to get HBM-juiced AMD CPUs
I have 128gb in PC (largely because I can) and android studio, a few containers and running emulators will take a sizable bite into that. My 18gb MacBook would be digging into swap and compressing to get there.
shakabrah··on Shedding light on alcohol's long shadow
Five years sober now. No coincidence my income has doubled in that time. One day at a time!
shakabrah··on Microsoft 1998 = Apple 2024
I personally find PWAs to be an objectively worse experience for even run of the mill brochureware apps. That said, i also believe consumers should be allowed to make that choice for themselves.
shakabrah··on Microsoft, Khan Academy Partner to Make Khanmigo Teaching Tool Free
only you are reading that much into it i’m afraid
shakabrah··on Waffle House's Magic Marker System
and just like fight club, if it’s your first time, you have to fight.
shakabrah··on Ask HN: What is the, currently, best Programming LLM (copilot) subscription?
Cursor is really great. It will do codebase search as well as actually apply the code it suggest from the chat interface. Some other neat features like checking your staged changes for bugs.
shakabrah··on jQuery v4.0 Beta
I learned jQuery before i learned javascript proper over a decade ago. I didn’t even really understand what i was doing was considered programming. although i’ve not touched jquery in many years, i now have a great livelihood doing something i love. Long may they live.
shakabrah··on I am the cheapest bastard in indie games (2019)
Making your own thing and not having to deal with others is worth a lot.
shakabrah··on Htmx Is a Erlang
here here. I am very thankful that when i started out a decade ago the first book i read was Designing with Web Standards. I still recommend it to noobs but i can’t necessarily blame them for not getting through it when there are more shiny things like React and Vite to learn about.

To read that book now would be largely a history lesson because we no longer have to fight to maintain some quirk between a handful of browser versions. But man, knowing about semantic markup and really getting why that is a thing in the first place is super important.

shakabrah··on OpenAI's board has fired Sam Altman
as good as any other theory. i’ll take it
shakabrah··on Ask HN: How's your job search going in this current economy?
yeah ymmv for sure. The auto formatting and easy editing without having to reconfigure the whole thing helped me out. I would often cut targeted versions of my resume for certain roles i applied for. This made that less painful.
shakabrah··on Ask HN: How's your job search going in this current economy?
i’ll get called a paid actor but i legit used rezi when i was laid off in December 22 and it was a big help. I got a job in February 23 with the help of Rezi. Would recommend. Just use it wisely.
shakabrah··on Streamer in Japan Gets 2yrs Jail Time for Uploading Let’s Plays, Anime Spoilers
You see the slippery slope with that argument at least?
shakabrah··on For many home-schoolers, parents are no longer doing the teaching
One of the very first things i learned when i began homeschooling was that 9 to 3:30 schooling simply exists for parents work schedules. We can typically knock out our school day in 2 to 3 hours altogether. Granted, my kids are still elementary age
shakabrah··on Show HN: A ChatGPT TUI with custom bots
for gpt3.5-turbo this may be true, depending on your use rate. but in my experience for gpt-4 it is more expensive to use my key.
