sgarg26··on Show HN: Rust GUI Library via Flutter
If this takes off it is only a matter of time before someone creates a rust based engine around this framework that does not rely on Google. For now, one pro of google maintaining flutter is that they also maintain android.
sgarg26··on Small SaaS banned by Cloudflare after 4 years of being paying customer
OP, any updates?
sgarg26··on Small SaaS banned by Cloudflare after 4 years of being paying customer
i'm about to move a significant amount of traffic to cloudflare. holding off until i see how this is handled. Can you please update this to reflect the total time of service outage and time to resolve. As a busy tech company, this is an unneeded problem. We pay cloudflare to be fast. Not make our sites slow and unresponsive.
sgarg26··on Tell HN: Rise in AWS accounts getting hacked and owner being stuck with the bill
This happened to me. I had a 9k bill and I got hacked and stuck with it on my personal account. I gave AWS $100k business and that did not matter through being a decision maker at a startup I work at. AWS does not care about your business unless you are going to IPO. True story. sgarg26··on Chime – A Go Editor for macOS
Looks similar to the open source lime text project. http://www.limetext.org/

Are they leveraging the same codebase in any way? How does Chime want to be different? I think lime is also written in go.

LimeText is still actively being developed here: Github: https://github.com/limetext

sgarg26··on Hire by Google: Applicant tracking system and recruiting software (2017)
The value google may see would be in building machine learning models from data we manually feed in for them. What was the name of the ATS that you eventually selected?

sgarg26··on Blizzard offering Starcraft I for free
A blast from the past - Starcraft I is free. Probably to seed multi-player or to build buzz for a remastered version of Starcraft I, which is set to launch in a few weeks
sgarg26··on Elizabeth Holmes Owes About $25M to Theranos
Looks like WSJ wanted a headline and took a cheap shot
sgarg26··on System76 launching ARM Pro server with 96 cores up to 1TB ECC RAM and 32TB storage
In 2013, I ordered a laptop from them as well. First, my screen died within a few months. I encountered hidden fees and rudeness trying to work through their tech support and warranty policy. Then, the motherboard died within the year.
sgarg26··on Hyperinflation in America: The End of Grades?
Some of the most elite private high schools in America do not issue grades. Instead, universities have to rely on standardized test scores and recommendation letters
sgarg26··on Ask HN: Pick startups for YC to fund
Great idea! Can we get a 'Apply HN' link added to the top menu bar as well? Would make participating in the community way easier
sgarg26··on We've Spent Billions to Fix Our Medical Records, and They're Still a Mess
Many hospitals went sold significant assets (like office building - assuring guaranteed rent) or took on loans to fund their EMR purchases. Hence, deals with these dollar amounts are tough to reproduce for many hospitals.

Epic has made major strides in supporting connectivity between EMRs. Partially, through standards like direct - http://directproject.org/. This problem will be largely solved in three to five years. Actually, a growing number of geographic regions of the US already have seamless EMR records exchange

sgarg26··on Loss of Extended Work Permit Could Hurt International STEM Students
A major source of talent for educated workers is at risk. This is the visa that many of the brightest use to explore startups. I feel like this a major pathway that people from outside this country dabble in exploring the American dream.
sgarg26··on Show HN: Forestry.io – A better way to host static websites (demo)
It's a good question. Reminds me of the first time I heard about Dropbox - I thought, 'why not just do a rsync'?
sgarg26··on Famous Framework is Out

sgarg26··on ZenPayroll (YC W12) Raises $60M From Group Led by Google Investment Arm

sgarg26··on Introducing Messenger Platform and Businesses on Messenger
You are right. Probably something like half the time that it took for them to do this before.
sgarg26··on Introducing Messenger Platform and Businesses on Messenger
I think they will open up their ecosystem to let a apps grow really big organically. Then they will try to figure out a monetization strategy with the largest apps. App makers that do not play ball will probably get cut regardless of how big they are... There are good examples: Consider Zynga vs Lolapps when Facebook originally opened their API.
sgarg26··on Introducing Messenger Platform and Businesses on Messenger
Apps that have a healthy enough revenue stream such that they share a portion of their revenue with Facebook will probably not have to worry about trusting Facebook.
sgarg26··on India Orders 32 Websites Blocked, Including GitHub, Archive.Org, Pastebin
Yes, this move is an over reaction. Especially, banning archive.org... India was just hit with a terrorist attack in Bangalore very recently. The techdirt article should mention this part.

sgarg26··on Uber banned from operating in Indian capital after rape accusation

sgarg26··on Willow Garage Founder Scott Hassan Aims to Build a Startup Village
good point.
sgarg26··on Willow Garage Founder Scott Hassan Aims to Build a Startup Village
Did not a willow garage spinoff recently have to close after failing to work things out with Willow in the series A process?

This is a great idea, but Scott Hassan needs to show he is founder friendly; otherwise, watch out.

sgarg26··on Why are US corporate profits so high? Because wages are so low
This message thread calls for a graph to understand such income dynamics more carefully. :-)

When a corporation that has cut wages has recovered what benefit do employees receive in relation to the strength of recovery?

sgarg26··on Why are US corporate profits so high? Because wages are so low
If wages are low, does that somewhat signify that many of the corporation's business functions are staffed with skilled workforce that is in oversupply?
sgarg26··on The Great Firewall of Yale
I understand that Yale and Harvard have a rivalry and compete for students. Out of curiosity, how might Harvard have handled a similar situation?
