sevenzero··on There is more to code review than (automatable) detection
>Nice way to avoid the responsibility

Welcome to the tech industry. Its all about shifting responsibility in case something goes wrong. Thats the only reason companies use third party software in the first place, to have a scapegoat...

sevenzero··on Go Concurrency Distilled
Well to use Elixirs concurrency model you kinda have to use the rest of the langs ecosystem and learn a shit ton more compared to familiar feeling langs like Go. For Go I dont have to learn its execution model, some VM specifics and whatnot.
sevenzero··on Go Concurrency Distilled
Not to mention its a lot easier to learn Go concurrency over Elixirs whole ecosystem. Also Go has a job market while Elixir job market exclusively consists out of senior level job postings that get handed over from Elixir job hopper to another Elixir job hopper. There is barely any reason to learn Elixir except for being fascinated by it.
sevenzero··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
I meant it as in: I bricked all previous snapshots while also having bricked the one I had selected, so I bricked my whole system.
sevenzero··on What About Rails?
LLMs would need way more tokens using langs/frameworks that dont have native features already built in? Even with LLMs I would take 10x the amount of time/tokens until I have something I could've just done with Laravel in the first place.

A more concrete example: Laravel has a built in rate limiter, with Go I'd either have to tell Claude to install some rate limiter package from some random ass dev or implement its own which would consume tokens/time...

Also your argument about PHP/Laravel being risky is pretty funny as everything is risky and most of the internet runs on PHP...

I managed to brick my revisions/snapshots before
sevenzero··on Tech Needs Humanists More
Tech specialists ignoring human feelings about AI and the future of tech, while also looking at the amount of downright evil tech out there makes reconsider about wanting to continue to work in this profession over and over again.

Before I knew how to program I used to think software developers were smart wizards capable of creating cool stuff out of thin air but the recent years proved me differently given how many of them outright water out of their mouths at the mere thought of replacing the human in the loop with some bullshit parrot we call AI.

Especially on this website I rarely find people having human first thoughts and it makes me despise software engineers.

sevenzero··on What About Rails?
Why would I bother with anything but Laravel for small CRUD apps? Not having to think about concurrency is neat, having tons of abstractions built by people with 50x my experience is neat, just being able to get going is neat.

Building the things I've built using Laravel with Golang would probably take 10x the development time as I have to handcraft everything Laravel already natively provides. Or I have to trust 100 packages from 100 different random devs to simulate the Laravel experience in Golang.

sevenzero··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
NixOS is also unnecessarily complicated and it's easy for someone that doesn't want to read 1000 pages of documentation to brick your system.

Probably has its uses, tried it twice myself and both times were a lot of struggling.

For me even Arch was easier to configure than Nix.

Had that issue with HTTP accessed repo, switching to SSH solved it for me.
sevenzero··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
I wouldn't have an issue with consuming meat if people wouldn't neglect how wrong the state of the industry is at scale. Eating meat might have been normal throughout humanity, but the industry scale meat production is everything but normal. Its ruining peoples health, normalizes the atrocities happening in farms on a daily basis and generally treats animals horribly. If you eat meat at least do it with a consciousness.

So they could just buy supplements and other vegetables?
sevenzero··on Show HN: How long do I need to work at my salary before I can coast, or retire?
I am constantly thinking about it, trust me. The issue is I already earn below median wage, but just enough to live comfortably. Other jobs would likely make me go back into poverty or make me hate my life even more.
sevenzero··on Show HN: How long do I need to work at my salary before I can coast, or retire?
Id say 90% AI, I just review it now
sevenzero··on Show HN: How long do I need to work at my salary before I can coast, or retire?
I wont be able to retire early with a measly 2.5k net wage in Germany. Still, job market is dead here. Its all Java and basically zero interesting projects. I appreciate the kind words though!
sevenzero··on Show HN: How long do I need to work at my salary before I can coast, or retire?
Used to think the same when joining the field and now I despise every minute I have to work on software I don't care about. AI even made it worse as I joined the field due to liking the coding part, not the results. Well, there isn't really an alternative for me either as there are basically no jobs I could learn that pay equally well...
sevenzero··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
>And every person I talk to has a different take.

Maybe every person you talk to is autistic with no sense for creativity at all. Thats what most of this dogshit website consists of. Programmers with no values, no creativity, no friends, no life and no self awareness. People who actually should be replaced by AI because they lack human values.

sevenzero··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
This is exactly what I meant.
sevenzero··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
>Given that any advertisement with AI generated food would be illegal there

So you never actually walked the streets ive been in recently lol

sevenzero··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Because people assume u need to actually hire someone to make art. Just let your kid draw something for your small restaurant. It's more pleasant to look at for people who didn't yet sell their soul to AI.
sevenzero··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Creativity does not have to be expensive to be good. Yall just dont want to bother dealing with it.
sevenzero··on The first new cat species discovered in 100 years
>...and it's very cute

Great, so people will find a way to have it as their pet in horrible living conditions.

sevenzero··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
>Maybe, but a small local event or business probably won’t have the budget to hire them or know where to find them.

This is funny to read given I am currently on a Japan trip with 3 friends and we actively avoid every small restaurant that have AI generated images of their food. Using AI generated bullshit just shows that you really dont want to put in the work to produce something actually charming. Hell, we've seen a food menu drawn by a toddler and it was infinitely more sympathetic than all the AI generated Wagyu images.

sevenzero··on Vibe Coding is the new Internet Dating?
Yea as long as ppl actually read the code they produce its just a tool to generate characters faster than typing them yourself. One of the issues I see is the hype around "just trust it bro". Somehow not looking into the product u produce became a thing.
sevenzero··on Vibe Coding is the new Internet Dating?
>To not accept the new reality

Thinking this is the new reality is part of the problem.

sevenzero··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
The whole premise of AI is to replace the human in the loop. People who go out of their way to set up this kind of stuff rather than just hiring a person dont even think about just hiring a person.
sevenzero··on All grown-ups were once children, but only few of them remember it
Children have no concept of violence or empathy or right or wrong. Children often are extremely violent to other kids and sometimes even adults. They kick they scream they punch and they destroy objects. It's on the parents to teach them these concepts and its fun to have settings in which that behavior is allowed.
sevenzero··on Replaceable but Employed: Automation and the Meaning of Work
Yea maybe adapt to what screens people use nowadays?
sevenzero··on Replaceable but Employed: Automation and the Meaning of Work
Most people nowadays use phones. Mobile first isnt exactly a new concept either...
sevenzero··on Cloud in a Bottle: making self-hosting accessible to everyone
True, most people get the full ad driven internet experience and it drives me nuts. Everytime I have to help other people with computer stuff I almost get an aneurysm when opening their browser...
