self-diversity··on United Broke Its Contract with Flyers
What about "logic at a distance" combined with empathy would make reasoning through the legal details of an incident you've only learned about through rabble-rousing reportage a worthwhile exercise?
self-diversity··on United Airlines just lost $800M in value
I can't disagree with anything you said but I don't see a single word that makes United culpable for law enforcement overstepping the needs of the situation. Given how the outrage cycle regularly crucifies and then moves on completely inside of a week, United would be best served to hold tight and let the courts and the basic facts of the situation dictate the outcome, not the fickle waves of anger expressed on social media.
self-diversity··on United Airlines just lost $800M in value
I doubt you'll get your wish, because we don't run our legal system based on the outrage o' the moment for very good reason.
self-diversity··on United Airlines just lost $800M in value
The heated rhetoric around this outrage o' the moment is disguising the fact that United isn't culpable for the brutality the person underwent.

I suspect that the imminent next outrage o' the moment will supplant this in people's minds, and some savvy folks will snap up United at a bargain price and make a tidy profit from this affair.

self-diversity··on Why Is the Pentagon a Pentagon?
It has been long established that sarcasm and text communications go together about as well as peanut butter and urine.
self-diversity··on Physicists attempt to prove the Riemann hypothesis
Normally I wouldn't join a conversation this far gone, but I'm curious - are you defining words that you consider to be basically the same as "shut the fuck up" to be violence?
self-diversity··on Microsoft opens up on Windows telemetry, tells us most of what data it collects
You have a point, but you oversell it with the hyperbolic commentary and it makes me want to disagree with you. I don't like agreeing with people who exhibit such sloppy thinking.
self-diversity··on Mexican Newspaper Shuts Down, Saying It Is Too Dangerous to Continue
Can you draw any lines between what you've listed and speech issues? I wasn't asking for reasons you hate Donald Trump.
self-diversity··on Mexican Newspaper Shuts Down, Saying It Is Too Dangerous to Continue
I've been alive and in the US for well over 10 years, and I pay a lot of attention to speech issues. What proof do you believe shows us to be on a path to disaster? I could agree that there are a lot of people who think their feelings should matter more than expression, but "disaster" seems ridiculously hyperbolic to me.
self-diversity··on Trolls are winning the internet, technologists say
Ideally there are larger lessons learned here than "there are assholes on the internet"

Like I would hope people now recognize that stoking a culture war to market a shitty movie is a bad idea.

self-diversity··on Trolls are winning the internet, technologists say
Political discussions in any forum have rarely been productive, and no number of tools designed to build echo chambers will change that.
self-diversity··on Wikileaks releases CIA's Marble: Malware obfuscation tools
Whenever this comes up, I like to ask what people would expect could be revealed about Trump that would materially change anything. The Clinton campaign raked him over the coals to the point that deluded people now think wearing a vagina-shaped hat is some manner of effective protest. It seems pretty likely that any leaks about Trump would be boring in comparison to how he appears in the public eye in the first place.

self-diversity··on Ex-Trump adviser Flynn seeks immunity for testimony in Russia probe: WSJ
This seems closer to "Ex-Trump adviser Flynn's lawyer tries a pretty common (for his client's industry) maneuver to ensure his client won't get jail time no matter what happens"

https://twitter.com/robkelner/status/847590575352270850

I'd be quite surprised if any of the Russian connections turned out to be meaningful. Every story that I've seen about anything along the Trump/Russia axis is soaked in enough weasel words to make a defense attorney cringe, and the details are generally senseless on close examination.

self-diversity··on A Not So Distant Mirror: Jack London's Political Writings
The omission of OSHA from the list of yet-to-be-undone accomplishments is interesting, as is the fact that the 8 hour workday is enshrined in law for categories of employment considered "working class." Both are fairly important, and neither is under attack as far as I know.

This underscores my main problem with lowkey socialist manifestos, such as this appears to be; they rely heavily on emotional manipulation to bolster their points. That's not generally a good sign about the argument being presented.

self-diversity··on Canadians Adopted Refugee Families for a Year, Then Came ‘Month 13’
I don't sense fear from that cartoon - it seems to me a humorously effective lampoon of the wide-left stances of infantilizing so-called marginalized people, and the strange denial of the fact that some adherents to Islam have openly called for the death of the West while attacking it.

I know that the politically correct thing to do is dismiss any such lampooning as a phobia, but that can't be strictly correct even from a PC POV since ideologies don't get privileged treatment that I know of.

self-diversity··on Gender Bias: It Is Worse Than You Think
How can one say an unavoidably subjective viewpoint is beyond doubt?

And this is not merely philosophical. The notion of improvement can be validly measured in many disciplines, and this is true in many disciplines that are under scrutiny for their lack of particular genitalia.

self-diversity··on Gender Bias: It Is Worse Than You Think
you've hypothesized reasons why something should be automatically accepted, which is funny in cosmic poetry sense, but not terribly evidentiary.
