seigel··on Litestream VFS
Just a heads up for people. This will not work (as far as I could get working) with a system running 0.3.x backups to s3 and trying to restore from them.
seigel··on Litestream VFS
For anyone following this example, one thing to note that I figured out the hard way is that this line from @zackify SHOULD BE HIGHTLIGHTED...

* "Just need to have "LITESTREAM_REPLICA_URL" and the key id and secret env vars set when running the script"

... and that attempting to load the variables using `dotenv` will not work!!

seigel··on Litestream VFS
Got it....you beat me to it. I had just figured that part out!! I didn't understand that part. ALSO, and this might be helpful for others, in the releases section, if you expand the little blue link at the bottom that says something like "see the other 35 assets", then the VFS extension will be downloadable from there!

Thanks for humouring me! :D

seigel··on Litestream VFS
Neat. What I wasn't able to find was the dynamic library, just the `litestream` executable. Was there some secret you used for the litestream dylib? Thanks in advance!
seigel··on Litestream VFS
Cool that you got this to work! How did you get the "dylib" location or file.
seigel··on Turn Your DuckDB Projects into Interactive Dashboards
What is the best way to set up the connection?
seigel··on Resigning as Asahi Linux project lead
Thank you for your efforts. Unfortunately people are people and the loudest are usually the complainers. I wish we, your supporters, were able to muster as loud of applause when the complaints come in, but we are too busy enjoying your work. Thank you again.

Sidenote: thank you also to all those project leads that put themselves out there. Not easy being the $h1t magnet.

Hey great to see another mud slinger! Share some pictures sometime!
seigel··on Data Exfiltration from Slack AI via indirect prompt injection
Soooo, don't turn on AI, got it.

Interesting... Ferrari and Mission Winnow as a side investigation adventure.
seigel··on Show HN: Using Google Sheets as the back end/APIs of your app
Actually it was https://sheetsu.com/ ! :)

Good memories

seigel··on Show HN: Using Google Sheets as the back end/APIs of your app
Great job having fun and practicing making a company. Love it. Keep going! I remember using this one https://www.sheetgo.com/ back when they were starting. Fun to watch them grow!

Good luck!

seigel··on Horcrux: Split your file into encrypted fragments
You and me both!!! If you ever find that, please remember this and point me to it as well. My thoughts were: use all the free capacity of the drives you mentioned to make a filesystem like HDFS which distributes blocks all over the place.. :)
seigel··on Launch HN: PeerDB (YC S23) – Fast, Native ETL/ELT for Postgres
Looks very intriguing! Tried to get something quickly going with a small db set up I have. Just ran into a `peer type not supported` error and was wondering which three databases are supported of the ones you have listed. See the attached picture. https://d.pr/i/HYIk0Z+
seigel··on Sketch.systems
Not sure how comfortable I am with the read and write of private gists right out of the gate..

kiln? I am listening :D
seigel··on Atlassian: We estimate the rebuilding effort to last for up to 2 more weeks
I am very surprised that there aren't more people/companies announcing "offsite backup capabilities" for JIRA or Confluence, etc.. I did just search for scripts that can do this, I'd probably pay a few bucks for something like that at this point.
seigel··on Show HN: Calenday, real-time collaborative calendars for trip planning
Great idea. I am finding it difficult to use however. I filed one bug, and it seems that there may be a few more. Maybe there is too much load on the service, but it seems that some of the basic functions are functioning as planned. I look forward to seeing if it is just in passing, because the idea is super!
seigel··on Campaign “Reclaim Your Face” Calls for a Ban on Biometric Mass Surveillance
Seems like reading this, might be relevant on this topic. Specifically the thought of having to obscure your face in the future....

seigel··on Hyperdrive v10 – a peer-to-peer filesystem
One more question... How effective would this be for a `network questionable` environment, if I were let's say doing a mobile app and wanted to incorporate this type of solution in for an offline first type of experience?
seigel··on Hyperdrive v10 – a peer-to-peer filesystem
Great work. Planning to read about it. I, and I am sure others, are continually intrigued about this space and I hold out hope that the definitive solution appears soon (along with the solution to micropayments !!).

On a slightly related note, is anyone interested in having a discussion about how to layer on top of all these "drive" systems a `HDFS` like drive that would have n block replication across different sources, and trying to interpret any given source (dropbox, hyperdrive, google drive, etc..) blocks to make sense of what is being stored there would render the person confused?

:)

seigel··on CouchDB 3.0
CouchDB is good. Yes. I still dream of the day when the cluster will balance shards automatically and recover better from losing and replacing nodes. :D
seigel··on Emacs maintainer steps down
Heading over to vi? :)

Thank you sir.
seigel··on Let Me Google That For You Act
Are they advocating that we should not pay for movies and such as well? Read:

"No Federal agency should use taxpayer dollars to purchase a report from the National Technical Information Service that is available through the Internet for free."

It doesn't say 'legally' in there any where in there.

Anyhoo....
