sebslomski··on Ask HN: Go-to web stack today?
We've been following this stalk for quite a while and are super happy with it. But there's huge downside:

It's really hard to find Django/ Python engineers - let alone phoenix devs. Right now I'm considering a move to JVM. But the frameworks i've seen are all far behind Django. Any thoughts?

sebslomski··on Ask HN: What do you use for authentication and authorization?
All new apps I’m building are based on password-less auth [1] & bearer token. NoPassword is just so much more comfortable than having to remember passwords. And boy, people are really bad at coming up with passwords - you might have seen it this Christmas at your parents’. [1] http://notes.xoxco.com/post/27999787765/is-it-time-for-passw...
sebslomski··on Ask HN: What's the largest amount of bad code you have ever seen work?
Fingers crossed that there are no merge conflicts & conflicting tests.

sebslomski··on Apple Lightning Connector Serial Access (2015)
Apple won't switch. They pissed of many people with the switch to lightning and were aware of that. They will probably do the same thing as with the headphone jack:

Getting rid of any kind of connector.

They already have the basics for that in place. It's just a matter of tooling now.

sebslomski··on Apple Lightning Connector Serial Access (2015)
Impressing, that's real engineering. That persistence astonishes & impresses me!

sebslomski··on Show HN: Start a small crowdfunding campaign to prove product demand
Agreed
sebslomski··on Show HN: Start a small crowdfunding campaign to prove product demand
If any European is able to use the page, it needs to be compliant.
sebslomski··on Show HN: Start a small crowdfunding campaign to prove product demand
Cool! Here's some feedback:

- keep in mind you need a privacy page. GDPR is a real thing by now.

- How about adding a pricing/ plans page? Is there something to pay upfront for me?

- There are _loads_ [0] of crowdfunding platforms. What makes your's different to them?

- I really like the simplicity of the design! Great work!

sebslomski··on Element – A Desktop UI Toolkit for Web
This feels like reinventing the wheel. There are a bunch of really great "desktop" web frameworks out there, e.g. https://ant.design - which is great.

Apparently the Select component doesn't support any keyboard commands - something quite many users do use on a regular basis. So apparently it's a downgrade over the default browser behaviour.

Pure Labs (http://jobs.purelabs.io) | Product Engineer | Munich, Germany | Full time We at Pure Labs are a small team of entrepreneurs building tech products that delight and make sense.

Pure Labs has to working modes: Retainer ("agency/consulting-work") & Co-Venturing (Help founders build their tech products as part of their team)

Working this way, we built up a quite interesting & diverse client base as well as bootstrapped multiple companies (biggest one is currently a pre-series B).

It's super important to us to not just work in the company (day-to-day), but _on_ the company. That's why our vision is to create an environment where people can be successful & most efficient building tech products - employees first.

Our tech stack is based on Python/ Django in the backends and React.js in the frontends. Of course we do 100% peer reviews, high test coverage, CI, CD, deployments via Docker - the usual.

I would love to have something like this in front of every meeting room at work displaying the occupancy of the current day.

Also it's not a product or a service, I really like Gordon Brander's "Patterns" [1] on his website.

And thank you for using nopassword. It's 2018... why isn't this the standard???
sebslomski··on Show HN: I made wits.io where writers can earn money with book summaries
Awesome idea! Apparently I hesitated as there was no trial or anything. I have no idea what I can expect or how good the quality is. But really good selection of books for HN.
