sdomino··on Crew raises $3.8M to build the most powerful checking account
Crew is reinventing how consumers bank, budget, and save by combining high-yield banking with built-in budgeting in one simple, easy-to-use app.
sdomino··on A day without JavaScript
I lol'ed at the part about tabs/One Tab, because I have that exact same problem...

I have something like 300 tabs saved in One Tab, which is a huge improvement on what it used to be (> 1000).

sdomino··on Ask HN: Why haven't Docker apps become mainstream?
This is a huge factor. Newer companies/startups are starting to use Docker, but it will be very difficult to come into a company that is already running and convince them to change their entire workflow/infrastructure over to something different.

I think over the next few years you will see a lot more docker infrastructures in production as these newer applications begin to mature.

sdomino··on Ask HN: Why haven't Docker apps become mainstream?
Full disclosure - I work for nanobox.io, a company that is trying to do this.

Deploying a "Docker application" is complicated, especially when you throw things like K8's into the mix. Container networking and communication isn't easy.

You're right though, it does make sense for there to be a service that does this, and thats why there are things like flynn.io, dokku, and nanobox.io, each trying to tackle this problem and make creating and deploying docker applications easier.

sdomino··on Ask HN: Flynn.io/Hyper.sh/Nanobox.io vs. Kubernetes
What is your use case that made Hyper.sh a better choice for you over Flynn.io?

Also, if you had to categorize some of these technologies how would you do that, and what are some of the other ones that are similar to those mentioned here that aren't listed?

sdomino··on Ask HN: Flynn.io/Hyper.sh/Nanobox.io vs. Kubernetes
I do work with Nanobox, and I apologize for not making that more clear initially, but am legitimately trying to gain an understanding of how our platform (and things like it) might appeal to people who are more familiar with things like Kubernetes than I am.
sdomino··on Ask HN: Flynn.io/Hyper.sh/Nanobox.io vs. Kubernetes
Thanks for calling that out. I do work with Nanobox, but am legitimately trying to gain an understanding of how our platform (and things like it) might appeal to people who are more familiar with things like Kubernetes than I am.

I could have done a better job of making that clear in the description, and I apologize.

sdomino··on Show HN: Go from Docker-Compose to Kubernetes with a simple tool
I actually just wrote an article that talks about all these complexities, and how micro-PaaS (things like hyper.sh, dokku, and nanobox.io) address a lot of them.

sdomino··on Ask HN: Are there any HN like communities for marketers and entrepreneurs?
Another one that this reminded me of is "The Backstory" (http://talk.andrewchen.co/) by Andrew Chen (from Uber). It deals a lot more with marketing and growth but is still a great resource for entrepreneurs.
sdomino··on Ask HN: Are there any HN like communities for marketers and entrepreneurs?
Just a quick note to my comment.

There are a lot of good entrepreneurial teams as well, but a lot of them have one time fees to join (part of a vetting process).

The one I mentioned above is free which is somewhat unusual for such an active community.

sdomino··on Ask HN: Are there any HN like communities for marketers and entrepreneurs?
There is a really great Slack team for SEO & Marketing called Online Geniuses (https://onlinegeniuses.com/). It's not really "HN like" but it's a really great community.
sdomino··on Django deployment made as easy as ABC (and PHP)
What is the underlying platform for Divio?

Is it like https://nanobox.io that allows you select any host (AWS, DigitalOcean, etc.), or is it more of a full stack PaaS like https://www.fortrabbit.com/ but for Django only?

sdomino··on The Most Innovative Companies of 2017
Is it funny to anyone else that 9 out of the top 10 do tech and 1 does... yogurt?

I guess it's nice to see a little diversity!

sdomino··on Ask HN: Does a viable alternative to ScreenHero exist?
We used ScreenHero in the past and it was alright.

After a while we just ended up going back to Google Hangouts for screen sharing and Discord for voice, and it's worked perfectly.

sdomino··on Heroku Alternatives
https://www.reactiveops.com/blog/migrating_from_heroku_to_ku...

This article gives a good explanation of when/why a company might decide to migrate away from Heroku.

Heroku provides a really great service, but one size fits all only fits for so long.

sdomino··on Elixir deployments on AWS
Nanobox is a portable "micro" PaaS, we don't provide servers, we integrate with your host of choice and provision servers for you. The cost and number of servers your application needs/uses is between you and your host (AWS, DO, etc).

The $99 you pay to Nanobox is for the use of the Nanobox Dashboard to manage your application on your host (Nanobox Desktop is free).

sdomino··on Ask HN: Web dev environment on Windows?
Have you tried http://nanobox.io/?
sdomino··on Nanobox: Local development done right
Believe me. We share the same sentiment about setting up almost any environment, so we thought we'd bite the bullet and do all the work for you, so you don't have to :)
sdomino··on Nanobox: Local development done right
We hope to keep the nanobox desktop tool free and open source. We plan on offering a "cloud" version of the tool (https://nanobox.io/cloud/) that will use nanobox desktop to help streamline deploying production code to a provider of your choice.
sdomino··on Nanobox: Local development done right
You hit it right on the head. We realize that this tool isn't going to be for everyone, but it will definitely help others. We're trying to make it so that developers don't have to worry about configuring an environment and just focus on coding.

Even an experienced developer could benefit from this if they don't want to take the time to configure environments.

sdomino··on A distributed, tag-based pub-sub service for modern web applications
We're working feverishly to get documentation and demos available and would LOVE any help or contributions from the community ;).

Mist isn't intended to be a message queue, its simply a message passer.

Similar to the old question, "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound?" Yes; similarly Mist will send a message whether or not anyone is listening, and will keep sending them whether or not the client is prepared to handle them.

As a point of clarification (I work at Pagoda Box/Nanobox). Pagoda Box uses an older suite of similar tools (https://github.com/stormpack-core) mostly written in Erlang. This newer project (written in Golang) is part of a group of tools (http://nanopack.io/) being written for https://nanobox.io/
