sciurus··on InVision design collaboration services shutdown
Yes. From the FAQ at https://support.invisionapp.com :

> In short, Logseq feels too big, feels too hard to start with, and demands too much at the first impression. If failed to get me, and I failed to get it.

This is interesting, because it wasn't my experience at all. I migrated from Roam to Logseq after I realized I didn't use enough of the fancier features to justify the price. Basically I open Logseq, take notes in my daily journal, and tag blocks so that I can easily pull them up by topic/person/etc later. That's all it took for me to get started, and also as far as I've felt the need to go. For better or worse I have no idea what other "kitchen sink" features it has.

sciurus··on Tesla Cybertruck Pricing and Specs
Why do you say it's $20k extra? You can get a well-specced new mid-size truck for $35-40k. That's about the same as you'd pay for a mid-size SUV.

sciurus··on Happy 25th Birthday to Bugzilla
Mozilla is using a mix of Bugzilla, Jira, Github Issues, and $DEITY knows what else, depending on the team or project in question. A good rule of thumb is that for any major system (code hosting, bug tracking, chat, wiki, CI, etc) Mozilla has at _least_ two- one homegrown and/or OSS, another a proprietary service- and a simmering battle over which should be used.

Most of Firefox engineering was still on their fork of Bugzilla (https://github.com/mozilla-bteam/bmo) when I left back in 2021.

sciurus··on OpenTerraform – an MPL fork of Terraform after HashiCorp's license change
As has been pointed out elsewhere in the comments, this is incorrect. The switch to BSL does not mean you have to start paying Hashicorp to use their formerly OSS products in production. To quote their FAQ:

> All non-production uses are permitted. All production uses are allowed other than hosting or embedding the software in an offering competitive with HashiCorp products or services.

sciurus··on How's business at Stack Overflow?
If the information in https://newsletter.pragmaticengineer.com/p/the-scoop-48 is correct, it wasn't an across the board layoff.

> About 30% of product development was let go and these techies were the largest affected group. Of the 58 people, about 40-50 of those let go were in the formerly 150-strong product development organization, I have confirmed with current software engineers at Stack Overflow... I have to wonder if StackOverflow has given up on innovation, and is looking to maximize profits while it still can.

sciurus··on Recreating Medieval English Ales (1998)
> In medieval England, ale was an alcoholic drink made from grain, water, and fermented with yeast. The difference between medieval ale and [medieval] beer was that [medieval] beer also used hops as an ingredient.
sciurus··on Recreating Medieval English Ales (1998)
My take away from https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/sr7zk5/has_t... is that even very well-intentioned, well-researched attempts at recreating historical recipes and being techniques are unlikely to yield historically accurate results.
sciurus··on A coax cable horror story
100ft of rg-316 weighs a pound.

100ft of rg-213 weights 10 pounds.

Given their longest cable from the article is 33ft, that's several pounds saved! This is pretty meaningful considered many SOTA operators are the type who measure their entire field radio setup in ounces. The author doesn't seem that extreme, but they still pack pretty light. Here's a couple pictures of them out in the field. rg-213 would not fit in that pack.

sciurus··on A coax cable horror story
I use rg-213, rg-316, and several other coaxial cable types. They all have their place. Rg-213's place is not in the field.

One of my 3ft rg-213 jumpers takes more space and weighs more than one of my 25ft rg-316 cables. 25ft of rg-213 would weigh more than the rest of my field setup combined and be too large to fit in my pack!

To clarify for the sibling comments - Firefox active users hasn't grown.

https://data.firefox.com/dashboard/user-activity

Revenue has grown, though. While I worked there, it fluctuated mostly based on how well Google was able to monetize ad clicks. Mozilla is selling more of their own ads since I left, and that seems to be paying off.
