satyrun··on The current hype around autonomous agents, and what actually works in production
Yea exactly.

99.99% is just absurd.

The biggest variable though with all this is that agents don't have to one shot everything like a human because no one is going to pay a human to do the work 5 times over to make sure the results are the same each time. At some point that will be trivial for agents to always be checking the work and looking for errors in the process 24/7.

satyrun··on Exhausted man defeats AI model in world coding championship
I would think the LLM though is not trying one solution for 10 hours like a human.

I would assume the LLM is trying an inhuman number of solutions and the best one was #2 in this contest.

Impressive by the human winner but good luck on that in 2026.

satyrun··on AI capex is so big that it's affecting economic statistics
I am not an engineer and I expect my white collar job to be automated.

The reason to be excited economically for this is if it happens it will be massively deflationary. Pretending CEOs are just going to pocket the money is economically stupid.

Being able to use a super intelligence has been a long time dream too.

What is depressing is the amount of tech workers who have no interest in technological advancement.

satyrun··on Ask HN: Is Linux for laptop worth the trouble?
I have an asus laptop with intel graphics and any distro I have tried has just worked, flawlessly.

I also have a MSI katana laptop with RTX 4070 and that had been a disaster. Every distro I tried had some issue with the graphics card/drivers even after looking up what distros people were having success with.

Finally, installing Bazzite just worked. I don't play any games but Bazzite took my MSI laptop from feeling like a waste of money to absolutely awesome.

satyrun··on ChatGPT agent: bridging research and action
I do this kind of job and there is no way I am doing this job in 5-10 years.

I don't even think it is my company that is going to adapt to let me go but it is going to be an AI first competitor that puts the company I work for out of business completely.

There are all these massively inefficient dinosaur companies in the economy that are running digitized versions of paper shuffling and a huge number of white collar bullshit jobs built on top of digitized paper shuffling.

Wage inflation has been eating away at the bottom line on all these businesses since Covid and we are going to have a dinosaur company mass extinction event in the next recession.

IMO the category error being made is that LLMs are going to agentically do digitized paper shuffling and put digitized paper shufflers out of work. That is not the problem for my job. The issue is agentically from the ground up making the concept of digitized paper shuffling null and void. A relic of the past that can't compete in the economy.

How profound. No one has ever posted that exact same thought before on here. Thank you.
satyrun··on Young graduates are facing an employment crisis
Have you ever stopped and thought maybe there really is no Epstein client list and maybe he really did commit suicide?

Maybe the Epstein client list is the propaganda?

Why would Epstein keep a "client" list? What criminal goes out of their way to document their crimes? What service was he even offering? I don't think even the local drug dealer is stupid enough to keep a written list of clients.

If some shady forces killed Epstein in prison why didn't they just kill him before he got to prison? The shady forces can get to him in federal prison but don't know he is being investigated to go back to prison? Why didn't Ghislaine Maxwell die in a mysterious car accident?

Why do people care about a client list that makes no sense and not all this supposed video evidence?

Your post just shows you spend too much time on social media reading bullshit that you think is real and it is not.

satyrun··on Young graduates are facing an employment crisis
All we need is an ultra cheap online accredited option. We can easily mass produce education at this point for almost nothing.

This would be hugely beneficial to society but there is obviously a lot of rent seeking and cartel like behavior by some in the network or we would already have something this obvious.

satyrun··on Young graduates are facing an employment crisis
If you frame it like a farmer back in the day hearing there will be more jobs because of the industrial revolution so they conclude that means there will be more farmers but just doing a new type of farming, that would obviously be wrong.

To me, it seems obvious the next boom 10 years out is in physical labor and being an advanced robot with your body. That is what will have value with the hugely deflationary knowledge work part going from super expensive to insanely cheap.

satyrun··on How and where will agents ship software?
How convenient protecting us from the "harm" of LLMs just happens to align with your own self interest.

I am sure that isn't causing any bias in your perceptions of reality.

satyrun··on How bad are childhood literacy rates?
This is just wrong.

Ordinary language is highly ambiguous, so specific domains have to use words that have been disambiguated for the domain so that people inside the domain can clearly communicate with each other.

Two chemist aren't doing performance art talking to each other because I am uneducated in chemistry so can't follow the conversation.

satyrun··on What caused the 'baby boom'? What would it take to have another?
You mean it was the giant war the people went through that had all these kids and not that things just happened to line up at that time with my stupid political beliefs?

Even though I have put zero thought into most of my political beliefs, I just repeat what my social media programs me to believe, that can't be true. I can't be full of shit.

Look how much I get paid to write javascript!

satyrun··on LLM Inevitabilism
lol you must not be looking for a white collar job right now then outside of IT.

The only thing that is over hyped is there is no white collar bloodbath but a white collar slow bleed out.

Not mass firing events but transition by attrition over time. A bleed out in jobs that don't get back filled and absolutely nothing in terms of hiring reserve capacity for the future.

My current company is a sinking ship, I suspect it will go under in the next two years so I have been trying to get off but there is absolutely no place to go.

In 2-3 years I expect to be unemployed and unemployable, needing to retrain to do something I have never done before.

What is on display in this thread is that human's are largely denial machines. We have to be otherwise we would be paralyzed by our own inevitable demise.

It is more comforting to believe everything is fine and the language models are just some kind of doge coin tech hype bullshit.

satyrun··on LLM Inevitabilism
In other words, "if we cared about the world, we would only do things that line up with my personal political beliefs and my political beliefs are obviously correct"
satyrun··on Mira Murati’s AI startup Thinking Machines valued at $12B in early-stage funding
I am working on a pitch deck for a startup that is going to build language models that aren't just safe and reliable but they are actually CONSCIOUS.

consciousmachines.ai

Such an obvious next step. Conscious, ethical, inclusive machines.

satyrun··on The new literalism plaguing today’s movies
I was going to say, were movies really that good in 2002?

Catch Me If You Can

Gangs of New York

The Pianist

City of God

Yes, yes they were lol. It is almost hard to believe those all came out in the same year.

Imagine in 2025 having to pick if you want to see The Pianist or City of God? It is just so unthinkable

satyrun··on Protecting my attention at the dopamine carnival
I am sure studies would find I use my hamstrings and quadriceps less when driving than when walking too.

The problem is if you are driving a car to go the same speed and distance as walking then it is missing the point.

satyrun··on Protecting my attention at the dopamine carnival
I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with a short form video in conveying information but what information in this context can be compressed down to fit?

How much can you really learn from even a 30 second Feynman lecture?

satyrun··on I used Suno AI to cover my own demo album
It is also pretty standard for a DJ to move knobs and sliders as performance art even when the knobs/sliders are doing nothing. It adds to the performance much more than just standing there.
satyrun··on Kira Vale, $500 and 600 prompts, AI generated short movie [video]
It is impressive technically but I think the whole plot and story details are pretty bad.

The gum just doesn't work for me. A black and white mega popular white female jazz singer doesn't really make sense. Maybe a Judy Garland type singer would work but she is singing a style that I don't think makes sense. Like someone making what they think jazz vocals should sound like but they don't really listen to much jazz. Billie Holiday wasn't even that popular.

Just like the black and white part doesn't work for me because you can tell it is just the same color clips but desaturated. While real black and white would be on film and look shot on film.

I think the AI stuff is actually pretty good but the director/human creativity here is actually what is not that good. The sound design and music are pretty bad.

I am waiting to see what Aronofsky can do with these tools since the studios won't let him set 30 million dollars on fire again like with The Fountain.

satyrun··on Fine dining restaurants researching guests to make their dinner unforgettable
I am not sure snobs is the right word. It is just a different experience.

I like opera and I like metal but while both are music, it is a completely different live musical experience.

satyrun··on 'Europe must ban American Big Tech and create a European Silicon Valley'
I am an American but the idea of Germany not having a competitive LLM right now is pretty sad and embarrassing.

As an American, It is really hard to understand how this can be for a country with such an incredible intellectual and engineering tradition.

satyrun··on Amazon CEO says AI agents will soon reduce company's corporate workforce
Blue collar workers won't have this problem for a very long time.

It seems obvious that many white collar workers today will have to do something involving physical labor at some point in the future.

I expect I will be facing this in my mid 50s. Really not ideal timing.

satyrun··on Thesis: Interesting work is less amenable to the use of AI
It has basically ruined this bored with stupid thoughtless comments like this on every fucking article.
satyrun··on The Real GenAI Issue
The biggest polluter is China but who cares about reality.

Big oil fits better into my social media feed and political beliefs.

satyrun··on A 37-year-old wanting to learn computer science
The difference between starting in 2012 and 2025 is absolutely massive.

We need good teachers in these areas. I think this is an insane idea on many levels.

satyrun··on The force-feeding of AI features on an unwilling public
My 75 year old father uses Claude instead of google now for basically any search function.

All the anti-AI people I know are in their 30s. I think there are many in this age group that got use to nothing changing and are wishing it to stay that way.

satyrun··on How Stablecoins Became the Digital Gold Standard
It is really even more than that because of the depth of the US bond market.

Nation states need to be able to make huge transactions without any one else holding the currency feeling it. That is what makes the reserve currency the reserve currency.

That can't be done without a massively liquid bond market and no one else is even close to the US.

Then the network of military bases and military power is just another layer on top of the US bond market.

Then on top of that the top competitor has capital controls.

satyrun··on Sleeping beauty Bitcoin wallets wake up after 14 years to the tune of $2B
Not to mention you can't have a robust credit market built on top of a deflationary currency.

Imagine you take out a 30 year mortgage in 2025 with 12 periodic payments of .01 BTC a year.

Imagine offering a 10 year bond that will make quarterly payments of .01 BTC. What is the price of this bond? It is just a meaningless question practically.

satyrun··on Being too ambitious is a clever form of self-sabotage
Exactly.

If you look at a book of Picasso's drawings/paintings he has thousands of examples of half finished, complete shit.

The masterpieces are the result of picking the best output.
