What was the script?

sattoshi··on Public TLS certificate lifetimes to be capped at 47 days by 2029
Essentially, a mandate for automated cert renewals. Not a bad thing.
sattoshi··on A2A Protocol – Agent-to-Agent Communication
I think something like this is obviously the future. I'm looking forward to writing into some UI "schedule a dental cleaning appointment ASAP any nearby clinic" for it to just work.
sattoshi··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (December 2024)
Location: Ottawa, Canada Remote: Preferably Willing to relocate: Yes Technologies: React, Node.js, JavaScript, .NET (in short) Resume: https://knyazev.io/resume/ Email: slava@knyazev.io About me: I'm an experienced full-stack engineer with experience leading features at well-known names (Amazon, Airbnb, ESPN Bet).

Professionally, I've mainly been writing React in my last few position, but I am very well versed in designing backends as well.

Non-professionally, I have been writing deep dives into tech I work with on my blog: https://www.bbss.dev/posts/react-learn-suspense/ (sample post)

sattoshi··on Trudeau government bans TikTok from operating in Canada
Surrounded by scandals, Trudeau passed a law that had an oh-so-unintentional side-effect of hiding news from many people’s primary news source.

It’s hard to not be cynical about it.

sattoshi··on Trudeau government bans TikTok from operating in Canada
Moot point because Trudeau basically banned all news from being shared on Facebook

sattoshi··on Google Wins Lawsuit Against Scammers Who 'Weaponized' DMCA Takedowns
It’s insane how fighting a DMCA notice can have serious consequences, but sending frivolous DMCA notices does not.
sattoshi··on OpenAI threatens to revoke o1 access for asking it about its chain of thought
Would you feel the same about a kill shelter called "save the kittens inc"?
sattoshi··on Born into slavery, he rose to the top of France's art world
Troisieme is the third when counting. “Tiers” is the third when taking a fraction.

I can only speak to modern french though.

sattoshi··on Show HN: I made a search engine for Hacker News
They meant https://hn.algolia.com/
sattoshi··on T-Mobile users enraged as "Un-carrier" breaks promise to never raise prices
Because improvements in technology would decrease expenses at a rate faster than inflation.

Im guessing that was the idea.

sattoshi··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
The reasonable course of action is to pick one of the three rewrites that codify a proposed interpretation of the currently ambiguous rules.

What would be unreasonable is to give those 3 options to a judge and ask them to do a coin toss on which one is right, and then let it sit that way.

I may be radical in this, but I wish the judiciary could force the legislative branch to decide on what the law they wrote means.

sattoshi··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
The problem aren’t interpretative courts, its unclear laws.

The pencil example is all fun and games, but swap « buying mechanical pencils » with « sending people to prison », and then it makes more sense why some people prefer the judiciary branch to constrain the power of HR when there’s ambiguity.

sattoshi··on Supreme Court overturns 40-year-old "Chevron deference" doctrine
Whats the problem? If congress disagrees with what the courts did to fill in the blanks in their laws, they just need to pass new laws.
sattoshi··on Uncensor any LLM with abliteration
> Are you saying that you want to pay to be provided with harmful text

This existence of “harmful text” is a bit silly, but lets not dwell on it.

The answer to your question is that I want to be able to generate whatever the technology is capable of. Imagine if Microsoft Word would throw an error if you tried to write something against modern dogmas.

If you wish to avoid seeing harmful text, I think that market is well-served today. I can’t imagine there not being at the very least a checkbox to enable output filtering for any ideas you think are harmful.

sattoshi··on What You Get After Running an SSH Honeypot for 30 Days
Cracked software can contain extra features. Especially when delivered in this way.
sattoshi··on Anti-patterns in event-driven architecture
How is it not true? Instead of tracking data and function calls over a unified stacktrace, you track Things and Messages over databases, queues, and logs —- none of which you can trivially attach a debugger to.

I generally like event-driven architecture, but I need to admit that debuggability is sacrificed where it matters most.

sattoshi··on Shopify is acquiring the Threads team
Clearly, but who is the post for? Is it for their parents, or their customers? It reads like the former.
sattoshi··on Shopify is acquiring the Threads team
These acquihire posts read so cheery. Why? You’re killing a product that at least 1 person depended on. Why are you pretending that this is exciting for them?
sattoshi··on Netflix is removing offline downloads from its Windows app
I just want to watch things without paying 5$ ppv or 100$ in combined subscriptions.

Charge me $15/mo to watch what I want and they would have my money forever. I would never torrent again.

sattoshi··on Show HN: I made a privacy friendly and simple app to track my menstruation
This isn't targeted at OP. Sharing options doesnt mean that you shouldn't use the one this thread is about.
sattoshi··on Google layoffs hit Flutter team
Which is probably part of the reason Flutter is getting shuttered. The Google brand is too unreliable to capture developer mindshare now.
sattoshi··on Google threatens to cut off news after California proposes paying media outlets
Canada hit Meta with a similar law with the same, predictable result. It’s hard to not be cynical and thinking that the current government wants people to be less informed, as it hurts them in the polling.
sattoshi··on Harvard will require test scores for admission again
No two applications can be the same, so thats beside the point.
sattoshi··on Harvard will require test scores for admission again
Are you suggesting that talented people are a net negative on society?

Your point is unclear.

sattoshi··on Harvard will require test scores for admission again
Test scores are meritocratic but looking at actual achievements is also meritocratic.

There's little difference in looking at test results and actual work which it is meant to proxy. At least in principle.

sattoshi··on Harvard will require test scores for admission again
What if the Black student’s last name is Obama and the White student was an orphan?
sattoshi··on Harvard will require test scores for admission again
I dont care, but they probably wouldve had good test scores.
sattoshi··on A proposal to add signals to JavaScript
The first and only question that matters: is this useful as a primitive?

Im inclined to say no. Signals seem like they are a UI concept, primarily. Just use any signal lib you want. Utility libraries dont really need to understand signals.
