sassbadger··on LeCun has "zero concerns" about AI wiping out humanity, recent "rogue" incidents
Yeah, and he's probably right.
sassbadger··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Please don't. The arrogance with which they handle this situation is mind-boggling. Everyone else is blamed except their own greed and awful decision making. Germany and Europe will recover from this eventually and we're going to be better off without the auto lobby.
sassbadger··on DoorDash Spent $1.4M Trying to Stop Mamdani from Becoming Mayor. Now We Know Why
Not even a whoopsie. Look how many responders here defend this exploitative behavior that is only enabled through monopolization as "the market regulates this", or "nobody forces them to buy/work there". Pure libertarian brain rot, no better than the communists they always cry about.
sassbadger··on Small programming tricks
Do they still do this? I'm using PyCharm daily but have never seen it. Would indeed be pretty cool!
sassbadger··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
Thanks for this great explanation of your viewpoint. As an occasional frontend dev who really got into Tailwind, it was always hard for me to explain why I'm so much more productive in Tailwind than in writing CSS. This makes a lot of sense.
sassbadger··on The German Mittelstand
Honestly, in my view it's not an issue of overregulation but a malfunctioning administrative apparatus. Too much power is concentrated in the hands of few administrators who can interpret the law according to their own vibes, leaving businesses with few options of recourse without resorting to spending money on lawyers. It's the mideval mindset in the local administration that makes it so difficult, not the regulations per se.

The is a really eye opening interview with Marco Scheel from the small German company Nordwolle, where he describes the daily struggle with German administratives: https://dts.podtrac.com/redirect.mp3/files.lagedernation.org...

sassbadger··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
> However, it eventually transpired that the Foundation has chosen to be represented by the law firm Littler Mendelson, which has an equally strong reputation for union busting.
sassbadger··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
Why don't you enlighten us.
sassbadger··on Wikimedia Foundation refuses union recognition, hires union-busting law firm
I have donated to them for many years and will stop now. I will not support any kind of union busting.
sassbadger··on Latest Airbus single aisle aircraft innovations
Seats are airline equipment. They depend on the airline and it's suppliers and are optionally assembled by Airbus.
sassbadger··on Yes, AI Will Take Your Job
Economy/Markets != Capitalism
sassbadger··on Can we have the day off?
It is one of the most eye opening pieces of media. Especially the French and Russian Revolutions are covered in such great detail, while staying interesting. I also loved the appendix to the show where Mike talked about "patterns" in a revolution. Learned a lot about the relationship between the government and its people.
sassbadger··on Making the Python back end for my new webapp
I argued exactly this fact with a talented junior dev in our team. He still implemented his solution with SQLModel but started seeing the difficulties half a year into the project once the business requirements became more apparent and the API schema and data model started diverging.
sassbadger··on Swedish Tesla strike goes international as Norwegian and Danish unions join in
Wait, is that an offer to pay for mine and my families' housing and basic needs? Please let us know, cause most people would absolutely stop working their miserable jobs if they were provided for.
