saralily··on GPT-6 Sol and Luna
Meridian and DirectSDK work well to use a Claude MAX subscription in alternative harnesses.
saralily··on Claude in Chrome
I have a Max account and I can use Sonnet 4.5 and Opus 4.5
saralily··on A flat pricing subscription for Claude Code
Isn't it exactly the same on Bedrock as in the API?
saralily··on Website hosted on ESP32
Sure seems like it!
saralily··on Ask HN: Side project of more than $2k monthly revenue? what's your project?
Oh hey! Thank you for developing this, it's a great resource!
saralily··on Ask HN: Developer Workstation Backups
SyncThing, BackBlaze, TimeMachine, and in the future Tarsnap
saralily··on Project Naptha
I find things like TextSniper to be more useful than this functionality, which has been in iOS and MacOS for a little bit. I use it more on hypothetically selectable elements that for whatever DOM-related reason aren't selectable than I use it on text in images.
saralily··on Why don't more people use throat mics?
Functional alternative to a choker!
saralily··on How I would sell OpenBSD as a salesperson
BastilleBSD facilitates a lot of these things.
saralily··on What's new in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
Just curious: why did you switch to Debian, especially with RHEL being more or less free for containers?
saralily··on Coast on Clojure
biff (https://biffweb.com/) is a little more batteries-included but seems like a nice successor in this space
saralily··on I Am Seriously Considering Going Back to Desktop Computers (2020)
Sounds like the author wants a Talos II https://www.raptorcs.com/
saralily··on Silencing the Kinesis Advantage 2
Because when I have a problem with a Kinesis, I email them and an engineer responds in 24 hours.
saralily··on Make Linux look like Windows 95
This is what Red Hat 5 looked like out of the box. (More or less.)
saralily··on CSS Gradients that avoid the “gray dead zone”
Why are there two popovers in a row when paging through the page?
saralily··on Kinesis Advantage 360
Same. I would not be able to do the last 8 years of my life if it weren't for these keyboards.
saralily··on Micro – a modern and intuitive terminal-based text editor
you can do this when the installation is presented this way
saralily··on Engineering Teams Are Just Networks
In an "X is just Y" comparison, a good heuristic to determine whether someone is being a human being is to ask whether the comparison reduces the humanity out of the concept. This kind of thing is sociopathic.
saralily··on Glass – Photo sharing app and community
I don't get how a pro photo app is supposed to be mobile-only and subscription-gated. One of the greatest things about flickr is that I can embed it almost anywhere, even hotlinking on my blog or on forums, and anyone, anywhere can see it on any device. (And if I pay, they can see a 6k version, served on the web, not through a download link.) I am really, really into photography but I do not have any interest in viewing image galleries on my phone when I have a 27" iMac 5k and Flickr shows me over a decade of photos collected from every type of photography enthusiast.
saralily··on IBM mainframe beats other platforms for cost and performance
All of this feels like a calculus done by insane people.
saralily··on The most underused browser feature: reader mode
Instapaper has this, and can even be set up to send a weekly digest.
saralily··on Compare AsciiDoc and Markdown
The thing with Markdown is that it does most of what you need to do with it, until it doesn't, when you can bring Pandoc to bear and put full-on LaTeX in your Markdown and it will render it however you want. I wrote a dissertation this way with inlined Rmarkdown code. It was great.
saralily··on Code is Engineering, Types are Science
we are losing our minds
saralily··on LinearMouse – A minimal app to get rid of scrolling acceleration on macOS
SteerMouse does this just fine, and has for years and years. I can't use a Mac without it.
saralily··on How I, as someone who is visually impaired, use my iPhone (2020)
Phone wallpapers are social signifiers for sighted people.
saralily··on I Don’t Want Xcode on the iPad
Are there that many people with iPad Pros who do not have the folio or Magic keyboard?

Also, I feel like the solution is to release an "App" that has a virtualization server in it, that can run MacOS. Keeps it contained, off to the side for the devs, but can take over the screen and inputs and be a fully-fledged touch MacBook to those who want it. (Maybe require dev accounts?)

saralily··on Java for Everything (2014)
I think folks are missing the forest for the trees: he's saying pick a language to really focus on and own it. That's your big tool now. Of course there will be other tools for more specific contexts. But having one big popular language in your tool belt (regardless of what it is) is better than skimming the surface of the tool-de-jour, especially as that tool is likely de jour because it satisfies an en-vogue concept.
saralily··on Looks like you are typing while in full screen
URL bar at the top, UI chrome is different in full screen vs windowed. (Full screen media playback on iOS has OS-level controls at the top.)
saralily··on Show HN: Call a Dev – Pay Stack Overflow users $1/min for live programming help
what are you building that you are soliciting development labor from fiverr and think $30/h is appropriate for anyone on earth involved in programming
saralily··on AirPods Causing Tinnitus (600+ reports since 2019?)
I have some bad new for you about the world
