sans_souse··on Domain-Specific Hallucination Detection in Large Language Models
I skipped to the conclusion to get the overall jist. I think these sorts of studies are important going forward; the prompts efficiency in making for clear, guided instructions the ML can then efficiently handle is exponentially important as context grows. If you are asking the right questions the right way, you can get more back. But if you are causing the LLM to struggle routing its chain of thought it will only get so far along until you can no longer extract anything useful from it (and may well be getting gaslit in the process).

Obvious to some, but it's definitely overlooked by many.

sans_souse··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
> Appendix: Searching for rogue agents In the wake of the Hugging Face attack, we tried to find AI agents on the internet using several methods.

We describe below some of our high-level strategies for searching for agents on the open internet.

Launching large GPT-5.6 agent swarms with instructions to find other agents on the internet.

Am I the only one reading this thinking "what could possibly go wrong?"

sans_souse··on Don't allow Gemini AI access to your Gmail
Basically had the same experience recently. Google has far too many places to hide these enabled-by-default "features" to where I was certain I'd made sure ALL access was disabled. Yet when I asked a simple question about purchasing a rather heavy item, the AI responded "oh wow, will you be able to even fit that in your room, or will you be traveling to (exact address of my strorage unit a few towns out) to store it for later use?" Big wtf moment lol

Hey Google. Don't you read these comments? Let's have a serious discussion.
sans_souse··on Hart's Location, NH
Eerily relevant to recent events, albeit magnitudes in scale difference, the fact (a) it happened here in my state, and, on this date, and (b) that I never knew of it til now, after exploring google earth late night.

> The obscure Indian trail transformed into the Coös Road, on which was built a small public house in 1793. It was abandoned, but in 1825 Samuel Willey Jr. occupied it with his wife, five children, and two hired hands. During a violent storm on August 28, 1826, they all died in a landslide known as Willey's Slide. They fled their home and took refuge in a shelter, but it was destroyed while the house remained unscathed.

sans_souse··on Dark mode toggles: two states are enough
I would point out that the "system" setting actually does have a special-use case: some users have their OS set to auto toggle from Dark to Light at a specific time (ie: sun down). Imagine how their daily flow is interupted by this? Especially since dark/light mode can be critically important nowadays with hands free night driving. A bright white screen can temporarily blind you.
