samwise··on Million dollar gas hack.
without putting too much thought into it. i would assume that the most common route looks like a inward decaying clockwise spiral.
samwise··on 10 Unexpected Costs of Owning Things
That's not very rational. will you have kids? Do you have loved ones? Do you have dreams/hopes? Do you have knowledge? Everyone has something to lose. Just because it's not tangible doesn't mean it's of no value.
samwise··on Pictures From the Boston/Cambridge YC Meetup
seems like it went well.
samwise··on Entrepreneurship Advice from Marc Hedlund, CEO of Wesabe
I find that very odd. If today were the last day of my life i wouldn't spend it working on anything no matter what it is.

Would rather spend it with family and friends. The answer would be the same no matter what day it is.

samwise··on I want to find a co-founder using only my iPhone.
but if you are successful doesn't that demonstrate the uselessness of your yet to be developed web app since you were able to accomplish the task without it?
samwise··on Can my startup kill reddit?
The service is much like TinyURL in that we shrink URLS. We then measure the click through rate on the new short URL and rank the link appropriately.

We might expand to more categories in the future.

This link might help. http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/06/06/poprl-mixes-reddit-with...

samwise··on Ask YC: Review My Startup
I see your point. However, even if a URL seems innocent it might still lead you to unwanted material.

The service is geared for the 100s of thousands of people that currently use shrinkers.

Our site still provides a benefit to a visitor even if they don't actively participate in promoting a story. Much like reddit or digg.

Hope that helps.

samwise··on NASA's Phoenix Mars Landing: Where To Watch On the Web

samwise··on New Facebook layout available for developers.twitter like
i don't know how this will be received my facebook users. If history has taught us anything, it will not be received well.
samwise··on Twitter At Scale: Will It Work?
the need to have two teams. One to maintain the current POS and another building a new scalable one.

There is no reason why that service can not be built this day and age.

samwise··on Ask YC: Review my startup
we're working on that.
samwise··on Ask YC: Review my startup
i figured that much, but criticism is always good ..... in moderation :(
samwise··on Ask YC: Review my startup

samwise··on ThinkGeek now selling Optimus Maximus Keyboard (113 LCD screen keys)
you could use a 7inch touch screen LCD for way less, and have even greater control
samwise··on The boring truth about why groups don't get invited to interviews
Interesting, the main thing i take away from what pg said is there's a need for more YC clones. Clones that can handle the talent that YC can not accommodate
samwise··on Why Things Cost $19.95
This is the kinda research that walmart bases their whole business on. If you even notice that every item in walmart is 12.37, 17.46 or something to that effect. That gives people that impression that the price is set as low as possible. when in fact it's just made to appear so.

fyi: i hate walmart, go target

samwise··on Comcast monitors Twitter
why go tru all this. All they need is to monitor their customer service lines to help customers.
samwise··on How do I startup if I don't own the code?
have someone else write the code then buy it from them.
samwise··on This video makes me think I've been underestimating the consciousness of some animals.
I agree 100%. The things animals do in the wild are much more fascinating especially when you consider techniques that humans do not grasp.

The video is interesting but misleading. I would highly doubt that the elephant has a clue as to what it's painting. Elephants have an incredible memory and amazing dexterity, those two things coupled together makes it likely that the elephant is painting from memory. The elephant also demonstrates some advanced painting skills that i'm sure it was taught. I would be more impressed of some cave paintings done in wild naturally by animals.

That being said, it's still a pretty neat video.

samwise··on Would this community prefer to be under the radar?
I find it odd that you even consider it's a problem. It's odd to hear a founder consider a site growing a problem.

The metrics to handle the "problem" should have been addressed during the conception stage of the site. I would be surprised if simple administration could fix the trend.

samwise··on Ask YC: Whats your Twitter handle?
across the bridge from philly
samwise··on Ask YC: Whats your Twitter handle?
it's a less formal more personal rss feed. Real Simple People Syndication.
samwise··on Q: "Other" Startups
I've been doing some research into bio-deasel production. It's very neat stuff.

non-software companies require a lot more capital, So you won't see many first time entrepreneurs in those fields.

samwise··on Ask YC: How scientific is the YC selection process?
The things that usually bring down startups tend to be team related. Even though having a good idea is important it's not as critical. By focusing on the team YC is attempting to combat what is most likely to hinder success.
