samweinberg··on Apple One
Interesting name choice given that Google has a subscription service called Google One: https://one.google.com/
samweinberg··on Show HN: Hrddt – Client-side Reddit thread/post to audio podcast conversion
this is cool, but needs an audio speed option.
samweinberg··on Did North Korea Really Attack Sony?
On a somewhat unrelated note, some people believe this is what the founder of Bitcoin did.

> Both his forum posts and his comments in the bitcoin source code used such Brit spellings as optimise and colour.[1]

samweinberg··on Uber's dirty tricks quantified: Rival counts 5,560 canceled rides
An app that does exactly this was just built at YC Hacks:

samweinberg··on Expense Calculator
Calca, too. The awk script should do if you want something simpler, but I'd recommend either Soulver or Calca for their extra features.
samweinberg··on Rap Genius Raises $40M, Changes Name To Genius
Why do you think this is useless?
samweinberg··on Super Pixel Quest
It's a stylistic choice.
samweinberg··on Programming on a Piano Keyboard
I like the idea of using a MIDI trigger pad for things like keyboard shortcuts or text snippets. I'm sure you could make something similar on the cheap with an arduino.
samweinberg··on Bitcoin by analogy
It's usually the latter.
samweinberg··on Buttercoin – US-based Bitcoin exchange
The form should limit the number of digits allowed in the "I want to spend" field. Right now, it says I'll receive more bitcoins than the total possible mined coins cap (21 million). http://i.imgur.com/pCUTqOz.png

Obviously it's a mock form, but shouldn't it at least be accurate?

samweinberg··on Buttercoin – US-based Bitcoin exchange
No you're right. Coinbase does payment processing and hosted wallets. Users can buy or sell bitcoins to Coinbase, but it's not an exchange in the sense that any two users can trade USD/BTC with each other.
samweinberg··on A collection of Unix terminal/console/curses tools
I'm curious what tools the author doesn't consider obscure.
samweinberg··on GameBoy Advance Emulator coming to iOS 7. No Jailbreak required
I guess this means it'll be browser based, but the screenshots make it look like a native app. Hmm.
samweinberg··on 3D GIFs Created with a Simple Visual Effect
I wonder how prominent the bars have to be for this effect to still work. Can they be translucent or a color other than white?
samweinberg··on 4 million songs on Spotify have never been played. Let’s change that
I'd rather download it off the Pirate Bay.
samweinberg··on Avatar: A browser OS with built-in privacy and anonymity
It reminds me of Joli OS http://www.jolicloud.com/jolios
samweinberg··on Open for everyone
I got invited about a month ago. I think I'll try out ghost now instead.
samweinberg··on Should App.net Accept Bitcoin?
I have to agree. There's too much of the "free, but we sell your information to advertisers" model going around these days.
samweinberg··on Termcoin – A Bitcoin wallet for your terminal
Great job, this looks really neat.
samweinberg··on Cool OS X Terminal Hack
On the front page yesterday: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7051091
samweinberg··on Ask HN: What topic would be fine to create a new HN?
I don't think fashion would work well in this context. Image-based sites like pinterest or we heart it work better for it.

Sports is OP's best bet.

samweinberg··on New brand site for Sony uses rendered JPG frames for 3D parallax scrolling
I should clarify that I agree it looked great and was pretty neat. But like Chris said, it was choppy. It took a few too many tries to get it to scroll down from the top of the page. Didn't mean to be a cynic!
samweinberg··on New brand site for Sony uses rendered JPG frames for 3D parallax scrolling
I agree completely. It was pretty and also changed my perception of Sony as a brand, but it was tedious to scroll through and could have been done better.
samweinberg··on Ask HN: What are your 2014 Predictions?
Regarding #3, I'm pretty sure Snowden only had clearance for NSA-related materials. Those examples would be intelligence outside of the NSA's area.
samweinberg··on Ask HN: What are your 2014 Predictions?
Spam.
samweinberg··on Ask HN: What are your 2014 Predictions?
I'm never on Facebook anymore, but I'm not too keen on switching to Google+ either. I want an ADN for Facebook.
samweinberg··on I fought my ISP's bad behavior and won
Anyone know if Time Warner Cable does this?
samweinberg··on Show HN: I made 30 apps this year and I'm 15
It still seems like you only vaguely know what you're talking about.
samweinberg··on Facebook is basically dead and buried with UK teenagers
Facebook is basically dead and buried with kids my age too, at least in my area. It's really only used for messaging and event planning now. Most teens are on Twitter and Snapchat. Although not as much as there used to be, there are still a lot of people on Instagram too.

I don't think you can confidently say that "x is dead" and have it be true for everyone in a certain age group in every area. It's a case-by-case type of thing.

samweinberg··on Popular Flashlight App has been secretly sharing your location
There are laws against this, right?
