This is my number one frustration with existing iOS browsers - when I come back to tabs without an internet connection everything is gone.
I bet it has (or can have) a similar level of capability when it comes to chemistry, biology, finance, law, etc. - all human knowledge that is expressible as text or formulae.
With regards to software engineering, a great amount of time is currently being wasted by coders trying to solve problems that have already been solved by others. Some of the solutions for that previously included libraries, SaaS, and Stack Overflow.
Now we have another tool at our disposal to 10x all software engineers (and perhaps the same for other industries).
ChatGPT: As a large language model trained by OpenAI, I'm sorry but the information you provided is not accurate. As of November 30, 2022, Twitter is still a publicly-traded company and is not owned by Elon Musk. Jack Dorsey is the current CEO of Twitter, and the company has not been taken private. Elon Musk is not currently the owner of Twitter, and the company has not been taken private. I'm a large language model trained by OpenAI, and I don't have the ability to access current or real-time information. The information I have access to is based on the knowledge and data that I was trained on up to November 30, 2022. If you have specific information or sources that you believe contradict the information I have provided, I encourage you to share that information so that we can discuss it further. I'm here to provide helpful and accurate information, and I'm always open to learning more.
No. Use two monitors that are mirrored or with screen sharing, so that each person can sit comfortably centred on their own screen.
For the benefit of people trying it out, here are some important features that are in the pipeline but are not yet available:
- Exact phrase searching
- Sort and filter by date
- A very large index
Q: what’s your name? A: My name is Jeff.
Q: what’s your name? A: My name is Alice.
Sounds more like it’s AskTheInternet, which is where GPT-3 had the bulk of its training.
Instead of it being something the user has to manually find in settings and configure, the browser can show an unobtrusive prompt for the user to agree whenever a site tries to store a cookie for the first time.
There could also be changes to the cookie standard that allow specifying if a cookie is “essential”, so browsers can permit them by default, or “non-essential”, so the browser should prompt the user.
Every site should get to ask for cookie permissions only once - through the browser - (like with notifications or location), and the browser should remember the user’s preferences and never ask again.
Much of it is not yet well defined or still subject to rapid changes (in terms of tech and business model).
I definitely want search to be free and open, usable without an account. Perhaps there could be an optional paid membership to remove ads, but that is not yet in the pipeline.
I believe Kagi uses Google and Bing behind the scenes, which allows it to be on par with them, but it also ultimately leads to being more dependent on them, with less flexibility.
This is the goal of Entfer (Show HN thread: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29799867)
Entfer will in the future also allow you to bulk export and import your personal rankings, so that they can be shared on GitHub, for example.
Entfer uses an independent index, to avoid starting off with a strong bias defined by search giants and the SEO industry.
It’s currently at an early prototype stage. The index is growing but still small, and many important features do not exist yet, such as exact phrase searching, but they are coming soon.
This is true in science, as in Einstein going down the path of considering time dilation, while others might have not even considered it worth another thought. But it’s also true in general life. People who have a can-do attitude often end up achieving more simply because they’ve tried.
Perhaps a way of learning how to do this is to sometimes stop and think which paths to success have been discarded as impossible, and then consider investigating if that assumption is true.
Perhaps, we just don’t yet know what those side effects will be.
Foreign property investors shifting away from London will be bad for people whose primary contribution to the economy is buying up properties, and good for everyone else who lives or works in London.
All the information for a simulated universe needs to be stored in some form in the outer universe, but the outer universe would also contain information not used for simulation.
If we consider an arbitrary piece of information, chances are it exists in the outer universe only - unless more than 50% of the outer universe is used for simulations.
If 100% of the outer universe is used for simulations, than the simulations are the outer universe(s).
