samdoidge··on When Bitcoin miners take over a town (2018)
> What I do, though, is measure the actual positive impact this tech has now.

I don't think just measuring the carbon footprint is giving you an accurate measurement.

samdoidge··on Stable 1.2 Gigabit/s Internet achieved in moving train in Switzerland
You say this could not have been pulled off by a private entity, but I would argue the Japanese train system is equal, if not better and to my knowledge is privately ran.
samdoidge··on Robinhood goes down again, during another historic trading day
> If the markets are like this when there are a few hundred cases in the UK and US, what will they be like when there are tens, or hundreds of thousands of cases and major cities are in lockdown?

Investors are trying to judge the likelihood of these very events and selling / buying accordingly. Markets are based on predictions.

samdoidge··on Building a command line tool to design a farm layout in Stardew Valley
A nice application, but I think a screenshot from the game next to the ASCII layout would improve this article.
samdoidge··on Brave Browser and the Wayback Machine: Working Together
What is your suggestion? It is far better than Chrome from a privacy point of view, while still being useable.

samdoidge··on Swiss crypto company backdoored by CIA for decades
You now flagged comment was explaining ways one could check. I was showing this explanation was redundant.
samdoidge··on Swiss crypto company backdoored by CIA for decades
I was stating my initial interpretation from the title alone.

It should be a given that responding in a chain with the OP stating 'By crypto they mean cryptography here.' I have ascertained the 'crypto' in the title now refers to cryptography.

samdoidge··on Swiss crypto company backdoored by CIA for decades
I did interpret this as being related to cryptocurrency, so quite possibly.
samdoidge··on The vast but little-known fund of the Mormon Church
> this starts with the assumption that what people like me went through is trivial.

I did not read it as that, and don't believe that is what his statement conveys.

samdoidge··on App Used to Tabulate Votes Is Said to Have Been Inadequately Tested
Shambles. It sounds like there was no load-testing.
samdoidge··on New disclosures to our archive of state-backed information operations
I'm sure it is related to the fact they can report N new users to shareholders. I can't see what else explains their complete lack of dealing with obvious fake/spam accounts.
samdoidge··on Silicon Valley IT Administrator and Friends Charged in Insider Trading Ring
Where's the evidence?
samdoidge··on Twitter to ban political advertising
Ideally, yes.. but it shouldn't be a condition for it.
samdoidge··on Twitter to ban political advertising
>>In addition to that, America is a country that works forwards from principles much more often than European nations, which very often work backwards from objectives.

>Have any examples to back this up?

This is an example to backup the statement. The US starts from a strong principle of free speech. European countries generally don't value this as highly, and will censor speech if they feel it is necessary.

samdoidge··on Twitter to ban political advertising
Free speech.
samdoidge··on Dyson has scrapped its electric car project
Dyson moved it's HQ to Singapore with the CEO stating: “We have seen an acceleration of opportunities to grow the company from a revenue perspective in Asia"

I don't see why this makes Dyson a terrible person.

samdoidge··on Reddit, where chaos thrives, tries to clean up to attract ads from big brands
No, not everyone is in their own bubble. Some are able to be objective, and profit from being so.

There is room for reasoned debate but many are incapable of it, especially on an internet forum.

samdoidge··on Reddit, where chaos thrives, tries to clean up to attract ads from big brands
I'm not sure how you have interpreted my statement to mean the above. Please re-read without the assumptions.
samdoidge··on Reddit, where chaos thrives, tries to clean up to attract ads from big brands
More importantly his comment was a Straw man.
samdoidge··on Reddit, where chaos thrives, tries to clean up to attract ads from big brands
A delightfully condescending reply.
samdoidge··on Reddit, where chaos thrives, tries to clean up to attract ads from big brands
> Complaining that you can't have the political discussion that you want on a forum where politics is officially off-topic, is like complaining that you can't have the bacon cheese burger (with real pig and cow involved) that you want in the vegan restaurant you've decided to take lunch in.

Except this is disingenuous. There are political discussions found here, but one side is generally downvoted.

samdoidge··on Hong Kong Exchanges Bids $39B to Take over London Stock Exchange
You realise this is just one publicly listed company (not a territory of China) bidding for another publicly listed company?
samdoidge··on The lunar laser ranging experiment is still going 50 years later
Maybe they don't know about them. It was an astonishing achievement - skepticism has its place.
samdoidge··on Google Pays Its DeepMind Tech Professionals a Huge Salary
I completely agree, but this looks like all we have to go on.
samdoidge··on Google Pays Its DeepMind Tech Professionals a Huge Salary
As much as this article suggests?

> Either way, the implication is that DeepMind pays an average of at least £478,— (U.S. $581,000) per head.

samdoidge··on The Fasting Cure Is No Fad
How would you describe autophagy in layman's terms?
samdoidge··on Tree planting: Where can I do it and which type is best?
Yes, but American's produce more than the average person on the planet.
samdoidge··on Car industry investment plummets in UK
Your links are months old. The Hong Kong protests have much great coverage on the front page than the protests in France currently.
samdoidge··on Apple in Advanced Talks to Buy Intel’s Smartphone-Modem Chip Business
For me to have 4G access, I need to connect to a network, and for that I need to pay. I currently do this through my phone which I need to be connected when there is no wifi more than my laptop. Is the price of 4G access low enough to have this on my laptop in addition to my phone? Not currently.
