samdoidge··on Apple in Advanced Talks to Buy Intel’s Smartphone-Modem Chip Business
You need the modem within a mobile phone, but now you're adding it to a laptop in addition. It isn't clear it makes more sense to me.
samdoidge··on Ex-Microsoft dev used test account to swipe $10M in store credits
As for 2, I would have thought one of the privacy coins could have been utilised:

Buy Monero with Biticoin -> Transfer Monero to another wallet -> Buy Bitcoin with Monero.

But I guess it isn't that easy.

> The illuminati is controlling your mind with chemitrails

Do you have any source at all for this?

He seemed to be beyond 'chemtrails' from what I had seen of him, and indeed he has a video stating:

> Another viral YouTube video purporting to show a pilot forgetting to turn off chemtrails as a plane comes in to land is another example of how baseless conspiracy theories distract from genuine issues and cover-ups.

samdoidge··on Julian Assange arrested in London
No. He refused to leave the embassy for fear of extradition, but he invited prosecutors to interview him within the embassy.
samdoidge··on Lyft Crashes Below IPO Price
> Honestly between $UBER and $LYFT I have no idea why you'd own $LYFT.

You use $UBER as if it is a publically listed stock - it isn't. $UBER doesn't exist.

>or we empower some individuals and companies to control and govern communications etc

We've been down this route in several countries during the 20th century and it doesn't pan out well.

samdoidge··on The Paris Compressed-Air Power Network (2018)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_power Lists Great Britain as the leading power of the time, and I would agree. I think France was leading earlier, when Napoleon was in power.
samdoidge··on Poor-quality relationships linked to greater distress than too few relationships
> They say this, but people with integrity are typically made fun of secretly or even publicly, declared dismissive and asocial, instead of positively recognized in any fashion.

Is there a source backing any of this up?

samdoidge··on Boeing 787 Reaches 801 MPH as a Jet Stream Packs Record-Breaking Speeds
> Note to readers, land speed not equal to air speed. As the article discusses it doesn't break the sound barrier.

Yes, but the first sentence is not why it did not break the sound barrier. They state it is due to being in swiftly moving air. The speed otherwise, even at airspeed (which is a negligible difference to ground speed) is fast enough to break the sound barrier.

samdoidge··on The text of Article 13 and the EU Copyright Directive has been finalised
> Please. Brexit is due to a number of factors, most of them fairly irrational and built over decades of lies from the British press and British politicians. The people shouting to “take back control” don’t know what that “control” even means, and most of them are completely ignorant of how their own government operates, let alone the EU.

Quite the assertion, and ironic with Project Fear in full swing. There is of course the question of how much understanding is needed of how the EU works to want to take back control. 'Can national laws override an EU law? No? We need control!'

samdoidge··on The text of Article 13 and the EU Copyright Directive has been finalised
> Well, when an EU directive agrees with you and overrules your national elites, of course you are all for it; and when it's the opposite, it's "them shady eurocrats"...

Some people just want these important decisions done at the national level, hence Brexit.

samdoidge··on UK makes it an offence to view terrorist propaganda even once
The increasing censorship is genuinely making living in the UK less appealing.
samdoidge··on Schools in England Introduce a New Subject: Mindfulness
> 12 Rules for life is a complete mess of strangely used bible quotes, misattributed and misquoted philosophers

Can you be more specific with the misquoted and misattributed philosophers?

samdoidge··on Schools in England Introduce a New Subject: Mindfulness
I agree problems need to be tackled at the source, but some self-help books may help you deal with the problem. 12 Rules for Life is one such book.
samdoidge··on Reddit is raising a huge round near a $3B valuation

samdoidge··on Article 13 Is Back On: Worse, Not Better
> People that downplay the democratic legitimacy of the EU really, truly, unequivocally do not understand what they are talking about or have a malicious intention.

I understand why people say this. The population have not directly voted for these commissioners. They can't simply vote them out. It feels like a step removed from the democratic process, and I'm not sure that's beneficial.

samdoidge··on Stop Reading News (2013)
> I know the system is broken, corrupt, beyond repair -- why remind me about it every day?

Perhaps only having Hacker News as your source of news has led to that mentality. That's not to say it isn't broken, or there isn't corruption, but I don't think things are beyond repair, and they can certainly be worse.

samdoidge··on German court issues first GDPR ruling
Yes, it is. My intention was to highlight that the separation of these concepts is not a 'unicorn'.
samdoidge··on German court issues first GDPR ruling
> The EU is big, the UK is comparatively smaller, guess what happens in a divorce? :)

A divorce seems an odd comparison to choose, but the UK has a large trade deficit with the EU. If the UK leaders had a backbone, they would walk away or be tougher in negotiations.

> 2. See 1. Also, there have been compromises, the UK wants to get unicorns. Full access to the single market yet no freedom of movement...

Do you have any examples?

Why should the idealogical idea of freedom of movement be linked to an economic market? This is an EU idea, and the separate of the two is not a unicorn. See: other trade agreements.

[2] There has been little if any compromise in the negotiations from the EU side, and much from the UK.

samdoidge··on One in three fish caught never makes it to the plate – UN report
It's a hugely worrying trend. If it continues, a potential outcome is no other species exist.

There are medicinal and practical uses for plants, and some are have only recently been discovered. Losing them is losing this these potential discoveries and uses.

Humans inherently enjoy nature. We like to see trees, greenery , wildlife. The loss of these things hurts our enjoyment of the world.

It's arrogance; see the Brexit negotiations for more examples of this.
