sam1r··on Sustainable energy without the hot air (2008)
The original author was blogging just a couple days prior to his death. Rest in peace

sam1r··on Show HN: Openleetcode – local LeetCode runner where tests live in the repo
This is awesome!
sam1r··on Mistral Patent for "Code implemented tool calls"
Can somebody care to explain if the 2013 and 2006 refer to IDs or reference to past years.
sam1r··on Mistral Patent for “Code implemented tool calls”
One could also have their preferred AI draft + deploy the white paper prior to flush.
sam1r··on How Golden Is Silence, Actually?
“Refresh, and quickly just click the reader button as the page loads slow on mobile, anyways”
sam1r··on How Golden Is Silence, Actually?
This. Comment. ^ is going to change my life.

Thank you!! I had no idea, and this is such an elegant fix.

sam1r··on The Conservationist Who Turned 40 Terabytes of Public Data into a Video Game
It’s actually a really good one. I do not regret reading the entire thing.
sam1r··on Samsung will delete your health data if you don't let them use it to train AI
Completely agree. Or maybe, just like most products in tech -- they are currently en route to "take out" style data deletion... and it's being released shortly.
sam1r··on Samsung Health app threatens data deletion if users opt out AI training
I was under the assumption that because of GDPR (which is in effect..).. or current "end-user metadata storage" best practices.. if you (a website/or app) didn't immediately disclose to the user what data is being used, stored, and why it is -- then you shouldn't store it at all.

If you agree that the world needs better examples today, then Samsung has definitely showed one.

sam1r··on I Learned to Read Again
>> He didn’t just mean that there would be a deluge of school reading, he meant that there would be so much going on around campus that reading for fun would be a kind of admission of social failure

It’s very clear that op’s father doesn’t value education first nor does he care to provide that influence to his children.

Such a sad situation.

sam1r··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
The parent comment of your reply is intending to create more laughs than less.
sam1r··on SpaceX wants to launch 100k more Starlink satellites for 100x the bandwidth
>> SpaceX has many owners, especially post-IPO. You, too, can buy the sky and sell the sky.

Perfect, how can this not be a win win for anyone not involved?

An opportunity for everyone to become wealthy and scale our riches together.

Without Elon, how would so many of us .. “ever have made it”?

sam1r··on Show HN: 18 Words
How about a hint provided for the last 5 seconds, for 7 letter words or greater.

And at the end there is a “used a hint” badge or not.

sam1r··on Google Books (or similar) all book scans – $200k bounty (2025)
Wow very well put.
sam1r··on Banned book library in a wi-fi smart light bulb
Thank you for this!

It's been a while since I used the github gist 'download zip' functionality. Quite handy.

sam1r··on Every Frame Perfect
I feel like OP brought up a good problem to solve, with no solution. I dream of the days where posts like these end with "5 ways to better execute on this today".

Instead, we get a zooming in/out raccoon (making fun of the reader, IMO) for recognizing this problem via the OP author.

Maybe it's just a really hard problem to solve across all devices & latencies... Perhaps more time needs spent on "problem solving" vs "problem description".

sam1r··on I stopped tracking my time. Now I can't focus
Also, thanks for bringing light to a significant issue / topic— I feel like there’s a lot of ….

solo standing, no corporate or faang job (at the moment, by decision) & “founding status” technical full stack eng.. but “pre-revenue” for whatever projects you passionately pursue regularly.

“If you can’t create the curriculum for the day, how can you expect to succeed eod”

Hence, you gotta make it fun for yourself.. the items you achieve and get done after, will be a piece of cake (8-9 write only, until eod, read only + journal: tom > today).

You got this!

sam1r··on I stopped tracking my time. Now I can't focus
Hey man, the best way to go about this — is to gamify your schedule and make your self do the items you desire to do. Whatever you plan for your day 8-9am every day, can be “read only” until you journal eod.

Trust me, I’m adhd. Good luck!

sam1r··on Building from zero after addiction, prison, and a felony
Thanks for sharing!

What are your thoughts on Roller Coasters? Hit a good theme park, ride maybe 6 with your eyes closed within a couple of hours.

I can't help but feel riding one (Roller Coaster) is much more optimal than $200/hr flying a plane, and much safer than a motorcycle, even if you rented vs purchase one.

sam1r··on Building from zero after addiction, prison, and a felony
>>> I cut the article out and put it in a documents folder.

Had to read this a couple of times, to let it sink in that he is cutting with scissors and placing this paper document in a manilla folder.

sam1r··on Three Ways to Get Paid (2018)
He is obviously lying to us and becoming rich in SEO from our clicks to his page.

Took me a second. The reference "replace with found url" is a lie if the URL is not found.

sam1r··on AWS Fired the One Employee Who Gave a Damn
Any business with an aws account should by default pretend like that world revolves them and their company.

Because if aws tanks, they will likely tank.

I pardon the drama. If you were in those shoes and the costs being spent for operating business costs- wouldn’t you be freaking the heck out?

sam1r··on Show HN: Audiomass – a free, open-source multitrack audio editor for the web
Significant props for accepting .flac files out of the bat. Incredible work.
sam1r··on Steve Wozniak cheered after telling students they have AI – actual intelligence
>>> the cost of building AI will always be more than the cost of humanity.

Wow! Well said! so shouldn't we focus on ... fixing humanity first?

sam1r··on OpenAI’s WebRTC problem
Yes,agreed. I also found it apparently obvious that they have proven their experts worth on this subject matter. Many times, over and over.
sam1r··on Bitter Lessons from the ISSpresso
The flow diagram provided for fracture control is incredible. Quite a work of art. [1]

[1] https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!AOMG!,f_auto,q_auto:...

Update: After staring at this flow diagram for quite some time, I realize it's actually the most robust, "complete-seeming" finite state machine I have seen used in the real world.

sam1r··on The React2Shell Story
>> Amazingly, despite being a weekend, the Meta team triaged, reproduced, and confirmed my submission in around 17 hours.

Incredible. Realize what you have done from start to finish (with confirmation) in < 24 hours.

sam1r··on OpenAI’s WebRTC problem
>> ... I say hi to <strike> Scarlett Johansson <strike>

Had a nice chuckle.

sam1r··on Meta Shuts Down End-to-End Encryption for Instagram Messaging
I don't understand why they would go in this inversely-progressive direction.

Shouldn't we be aiming to increase e2e encryption for the most regularly used communication platforms?
