salmon··on NYC Telecom Raid: What's Up with Those Weird SIM Banks?
There are undoubtedly SIM farms there too. They just didn’t happen to catch the eye of the feds yet
salmon··on I spent 18 years in the Linux console
I use miniflux to consume HN via RSS feed and that text was at the top of the article when I opened it.
salmon··on A story on home server security
Almost the same thing happened to me 2 years ago[1]. I didn’t understand the docker/ufw footgun at that time.

salmon··on Abusing Terraform to Upload Static Websites to S3
A while back I made a quick shell script[1] to easily create a static Hugo blog hosted on S3 with a Cloudfront distribution. All you need to bring is a domain name. The AWS CLI is extremely capable.

salmon··on Proxmox VE 7.0 Released
There’s actually three ways to run Docker on Proxmox: in a VM, in an LXC container, or directly in Proxmox itself. I wrote about it here: https://danthesalmon.com/running-docker-on-proxmox/
salmon··on PlayPhrase: Site for Searching Cinema Phrases
Not sure if it's because I didn't make an account, but 8 of the 10 clips I got were all from The Dark Knight. I searched 2 phrases.
salmon··on I made a mobile app for my significant other and she won't use it
This is a great idea. I downloaded it just now and found that the Privacy Policy and ToS links on the signup page don't appear to work.
salmon··on Show HN: git-peek – git repo to local editor instantly
Related project that was posted to HN yesterday:

github1s.com - just add "1s" to any github URL and it opens the repo in VS Code in your browser

salmon··on Leaked memos Amazon warn 'be vigilant' due to threats to blow up data centers
Aren't the locations of most of the AWS data centers kept pretty private for reasons exactly like this?

salmon··on Journalists Hacked with Suspected NSO Group iMessage ‘Zero-Click’ Exploit
Israel has mandatory military service and part of it's military is an elite hacking group known as Unit 8200[0]. Members of this unit who leave the military have founded a huge number of information security and antivirus companies based in Israel (mostly in Tel Aviv)[1].

salmon··on Amazon Sidewalk
There have been many discussions here on HN about finding a good "dumb tv". Here's a recent one which appears to favor Sceptre: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24666968&p=2
salmon··on Spotify revises TOS to allow transfers of user-created playlists
You can access Apple Music through iTunes on Windows.
salmon··on Spotify revises TOS to allow transfers of user-created playlists
Man, I haven't thought about Grooveshark in years. It was so good, but doomed from the beginning. They didn't have any sort of copyright agreements in place and they let users browse any songs uploaded by other users.
salmon··on Hacked billboards make Teslas see phantom objects causing them to swerve or stop
The newsweek article has basically no information. Either of these would be much better
salmon··on 14,000x Speedup (2015)
I find optimization porn like this to be so satisfying.
salmon··on Why are the username and password on two different pages?
If you're going to have a 2-page login worflow, just make sure that you aren't making network calls client-side to check if the email is registered on the site.

This is a super easy way for attackers to enumerate valid email addresses to then come back and stuff credentials.
