sahil_lmn··on Ask HN: Why is giving a secure crypto solution to the masses a good thing?
Life is about trade-offs. In theory, the benefit of security for the masses outweighs the cost of confidentiality provided to criminals. There are also other ways of potentially getting the criminals' e-mails you need other than snooping (e.g., Google can disclose your e-mail to law enforcement) or getting the intelligence on criminals beyond e-mail altogether.

Reston, VA (west of Washington, DC) - FULL TIME, INTERN, CONTRACTOR (H1B maybe if already in US)

Lucidmedia Networks - http://www.lucidmedia.com

Growing Internet ad network looking primarily for generalist Java developers (experience with SQL and front-end web dev would be great too). The Internet advertising industry is quite complex behind the scenes and somewhat parallels the structure of the financial markets. We are analogous to a high frequency trading firm, buying page views to serve ads on behalf of advertising agencies in real-time on exchanges like that of Google or Yahoo. Our server software runs on Spring, MySQL, Redis, and AWS at a glance. We handle about a billion page impressions a day. Big data, big throughput.

Small yet experienced team, catered lunches _everyday_, your choice of Mac or PC (all devs are Mac now), good benefits. Our office has superhero posters all over the walls.

Contact me directly at sahil_lmn@yahoo.com.

We've hired a full-time dev (me) and intern through HN "Who is Hiring" threads. These things do work!

From HN, we've hired an intern and full-time dev (me). These posts do work!

My employer (LucidMedia Networks) still is growing so I keep posting. Simple as that.

I'm not sure how many applicants apply to the companies listed, but I think our application quantity might be lower than average. Could be location (not SF, NYC, Boston), tech stack, low profile . . . not sure. There isn't feedback on the posts. Oddly, we also sometimes get posts from HNers outside the US, but we never advertise for them.

We've hired a full-time dev (myself) and an intern who just started recently from the pool of HNers. These things do work (and I state this in the post monthly).

sahil_lmn··on Ask HN: Should me and my girlfriend apply for YC?
They could break up due to stress during or failure of the start-up. They just have to make sure that their relationship and the outcome of their venture aren't tied together.

I actually got hired through a HN "Who is Hiring" thread. These things do work!

sahil_lmn··on Ask HN: What are the best ways to find and recruit interns for start up?
Check the Who's Hiring threads:

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3181796 (November)

This is such a long thread that it is actually paginated so make sure to go the next page via the More link at the bottom and search each page for intern/INTERN.

Have you looked at the monthly "Who is Hiring?" thread here on HN?

This post might be useful on transitioning your career:

What country are you in? It might be more difficult if not in the USA.

sahil_lmn··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of your ideas?
A combination of things that isn't optimal: - Text files, named by date, in a directory called "notes" - Items in my to-do list in Astrid (app for Android) - For things I've thought a lot about, either text files of their own or pages of a notebook (the latter being rare).

I was actually thinking about building an app to deal with this. However, EverNote looks appealing and I should try it out . . .

sahil_lmn··on Ask HN: Who is Hiring? (October 2011)
Interns welcome too.

This is the second story about a "drone" that I've heard in 3 days. I'm surprised that people like this slip by and linger without providing much value . . .

What's the motivation for building this?

Interface looks pretty clean . . .
