sad_panda··on The Microsoft Update mechanism has been used to spread malware
The dude's comment history is hilariously shilly.
sad_panda··on Revisiting why incompetents think they’re awesome
How about the bravado of the startup "code ninja rockstars" fresh out of school - simply a brave face in a macho subculture, or is it the Dunning Kruger effect at play, because they haven't had the chance to work alongside experienced colleagues that make them realize they have more to learn?
sad_panda··on Oh, the Places You'll Go
It is pretty sweet on mobile. On the desktop it offends my sensibilities as much as, say, using HTTP GET to affect state.
sad_panda··on The Mechanics and Meaning of That Ol' Dial-Up Modem Sound
It was useful when you were expecting a data call and you hear your aunt on the other end saying HELLO? WHAT IS THIS BEEPING? HELLO?
sad_panda··on Apple rejected Flattr… and it’s not the end
Starting with Windows 95, Windows had an objective advantage over Macintosh. The operating system supported preemptive multitasking, the hardware was considerably more powerful, and the software base was huge.

With iOS vs. Android, from the consumer's perspective, the differences are really subtle. The major issue at hand with developer freedom is hidden from view for most people.

sad_panda··on Robert Scoble calls G+'s "ghost town" reputation "unfair ... simply wrong"
My G+ feed isn't very active, but the signal to noise ratio is higher. That's fine by me.
sad_panda··on Getty's New Watermark
The paranoid SEO articles really put me off.
sad_panda··on Apple And Microsoft Behind Patent Troll Armed With Thousands Of Nortel Patents
The nightmare never ends.
sad_panda··on Maddox on Link-Baiting Aggregation Sites
Or he'd copy and paste your mail and rip you a new one on his site.
sad_panda··on Verdict for Google in Oracle's patent infringement case
"I think most people should be much more questionable about groklaw. I am big open source and FSF advocate, but I'm not above thinking that groklaw is controlled/funded by a much larger power."

I've heard this before, and it is usually the shills that spout that line.

sad_panda··on Google's Code Editor
Does the Excel web app support VBA? I was under the impression that the 365 apps offer a subset of the functionality of their desktop counterparts.
sad_panda··on Google's Code Editor
What part did you use the scripting engine for? I was able to do something very similar, but purely with spreadsheet rules.
sad_panda··on Meet Apple's Secret Feline App Tester
Totally creepy. I've seen a few articles trawled from stuff like that. If you work for a trendy company, you might want to watch your back and pay attention to what audience with whom you are sharing.

e.g. http://thenextweb.com/la/2011/12/10/meet-isabel-this-23-year...

sad_panda··on Google Shares Experience of Using Ubuntu in their Offices
I see it as risk avoidance. The learning curve with the basic WMs is steep but a one-time cost. With richer WMs, You pay a tax with your time and productivity every time the UI designers f* with your s*. It seems like UI designers these days are about making BOLD MOVES without apologies.
sad_panda··on Introducing The App Center
Google accounts don't require CC numbers.
sad_panda··on Pixel-fitting – how antialiasing can ruin your logos and icons
Ugh, that widget really stresses me out!
sad_panda··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
Heh, I always use Google instead of most site's internal search engines. Have you ever tried using MSDN search before? Even with the advanced filter options, the results are awful, awful, awful compared to what Google pulls up.
sad_panda··on 4 Weeks with DuckDuckGo
Duck duck go, go go?
sad_panda··on Traditional C "Hello World" working in NaCl
Native Client is BSD-licensed.
sad_panda··on Is Google Burying Firefox With User Agent Strings?
"Does this mean that Google has given up completely on net neutrality? This is a very bad notion."

Wow, break out the tinfoil hats.

sad_panda··on Language Immersion for Chrome - learn a new language while you browse
I totally had this idea 1 month ago. I was trying to get myself excited enough to go through with the implementation. And here it is...! A bittersweet moment indeed. :)

I'm going to keep this on for a while. My inlaws are visiting from abroad, so I need all the help I can get.

sad_panda··on Google is making a huge and annoying mistake
Not just Reddit, HN derives tremendous value from quality commenting.

Commenting with zero accountability (authenticated accounts, voting, flagging, whatever) is basically doomed to be awful and a net negative to the service.

sad_panda··on Announcing Weduary: Make Your Own Social & Beautiful Wedding Website
This woman is obsessed with weddings (especially her own.) She's a Miss Havisham.
sad_panda··on Turntable.fm: Where Did Our Love Go?
Too much effing dubstep. When a kid comes in and starts spinning that garbage, the fans fly away.
sad_panda··on MS: announcing Metro style theme for jQuery Mobile.
Hooray, <h1>, <h2>, <h3> tags, now for your mobile phone!
sad_panda··on A $20 Trillion Rock That Could Turn a Startup Into Earth’s Richest Company
And the nice thing is that the trilogy gives you a view into the lives of multiple successive generations of space colonists. Those books were beautiful.
sad_panda··on Google (Potentially) Blows the Door Off Oracle's Copyright Claims
There seem to be more than just a few pro-Oracle people on this thread. Why?
sad_panda··on A $20 Trillion Rock That Could Turn a Startup Into Earth’s Richest Company
The price of the metals is based on Earth's supplies. If the expedition was successful, the supply would increase dramatically and the equilibrium would shift.
sad_panda··on Play Tetris in a favicon
Clever.

The entry point is very difficult to find, though.

sad_panda··on Why You Should Start Dart’ing Right Now
I like Guava a lot!
